Is this to replace Thompson? Wow! It's July, and the season starts in 2 months!
Let's see if he qualifies academic wise graduated in May. Would have 3 years to play two.
My only question with all of these newcomers, actual and possible (e.g., the punter) is scholarships.
As I wrote, I don't think we can give out more than 25 new 2020/21 scholarships regardless of players leaving and vacating their 2020/21 scholarship.
The punter would presumably transfer and sitout without scholarship and then sign in December.

That'd be great if he were!
Looking up some background info on him; rivals (2 star) and 247 (3 star) both had him listed as an athlete coming out of HS. 247 had him as the #72 athlete in the country and the #13 player in Illinois where he was the Gatorade state player of the year. Rushed for over 2,000 yards and 38 TDs as a senior. Had offers from Iowa, Army, Ball State, CMU, Colorado State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota, NIU, Syracuse, WMU and Tulane. So would have been a huge recruit for us if he had come right out of high school.
Played running back at Iowa, redshirted his freshmen year and then did not see any game action last year. So it seems like whenever he is eligible he'll have three years.
Real good get for us. Great news seeing how Branham left. He joins a good group with Karmi, Willie, Boone, DJ and Josh. Is he eligible to play this season for 2020?
I haven't gone thru highlights, etc. but I believe he was recruited as a QB.
If this is correct, I can see another EMU player who can throw the gadget play pass.
Normally those who do are not really QB-caliber throwers, but this one presumably is.
From an article I saw he was an option QB.
I did a little checking yesterday and he indeed was recruited as a QB, but got stuck behind the 'infamous' Nate Stanley (remember who also got stuck behind him and transferred to EMU?
He moved to RB and got stuck behind a few more high caliber players.
Hence, we are here again, maybe the beneficiary of Iowa's excess talents...
EDIT: watched some Hudl. He was an option QB in h.s. Better runner than passer. doesn't have a quick first step but seems to have no trouble finding a hole and carrying the pigskin for a long gain.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting
Here in another article on Samson. What is also interesting is that his teammate, at Prairie Ridge, Jeff Jenkins, is also in the transfer portal.
And, Samson's brother, Carter, is a 2021 recruit that EMU has offered... All are highly rated 3-star players/recruits.

You would think a walk on, but we lost the entire secondary basically, and we're very young otherwise! Remember when Michigan in basketball a few years brought in A D3 all American, and he became a starter, and now plays in the NBA for the Miami Heat! Was this kid A D3 all American? Maybe, he gets some playing time? The kid played at Williams College then Michigan!

I hate to disagree with you. Our secondary while young has plenty of playing experience and promising redshirts. We will be fine if the we can consistently put some pressure on the QB

Nice piece, thanks for posting!
I was, however, somewhat disappointed with the author's fixation on the "trading up" aspect of these transfers. He stated that only one of the MSU players landed at a Power 5 program as if that was a failure for the others.
Playing at a Power 5 program hardly guarantees you a professional career. Perhaps a kid thinks playing time at a G5 program is more important to him than riding the pine at MSU. Another young man may not like the atmosphere or climate of East Lansing an instead opt for a lower level athletic destination closer to home instead. I would prefer to think our NCAA sports programs provide young folks a choice in what they perceive as their best fit.
Brandon Peters transferred from U-M to play last year at lowly Illinois. Tyler Wiegers left Iowa to play at EMU two seasons ago. Both "transferred down" so to speak, but I doubt either would have preferred to sit the bench at their original schools over getting game time at their final destinations.

2020 JUCO MLB Steven Scheidt committed yesterday. 4 years for 3 seasons. Nice to get some more help at linebacker for this season.
From Ypsilanti Eleven: "LB Steven Scheidt announces he'll be coming to #EMUFB after spending his freshman season at Fresno City College. He recorded 60 tackles (7.5 TFL) in 11 games for the Rams. From Clovis, Calif. (Buchanan HS)"

Looks like a nice addition! Has a year of college ball under his belt and put up good numbers last year. Linebacker being so thin depth-wise, he might be able to come in and contribute right away.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting
I want to go out of the box with this question:
I wonder if the NCAA has made any special considerations if a player indicates that he wants to take 2020 off, athletically and academically, because of Covid?
Can that scholarship be 're-issued' for another player?

Oh my god, Steve I had not considered that. I am sure, however, that the Big Money programs have. Interesting for sure.

As I understand it, the NCAA hasn't done anything on what I suggested...
That said, that doesn't mean they shouldn't consider it.
Maybe Player X wants to take online only classes and redshirt (even if he has already redshirted). Why not give him a 6th athletic year??
The operative word is that we haven't seen anything like this in over 100 years so it is time to 'think out of the box' and do away with old ways of doing things at this time.
