I took corporate finance as part of my degree program in information systems at the school of business, but it doesn't mean I'm qualified to be a CFO of a Fortune 500 company

This is to manage the outbreak so as to keep our hospitals from being overwhelmed. A flattened curve is still a curve. Until an effective vaccine is created, slowing the spread is probably the best we can achieve.

Btw, I agree with masking and social distancing. People have been working (and not whining) for long shifts in masks for months. Why it seems to be such a burden to wear one for 30 minutes while you are in a store is just beyond me. On all sides we've become the United States of Waaah. Pitiful.

Exactly. It will become something we live with rather than live without much like influenza. Current flu strains can trace their lineage back to the 1918 pandemic. All we're trying to do is keep it tamped down to give us the best shot at giving everyone the best care without completely overwhelming the system.

For the record, epidemiology is part of everyone's medical training. We have to have it to accurately interpret our specialty literature data and assist in hospital administration.

I agree, but Frenchie has insinuated it’s fine to just let everyone out en masse without masking or social distancing, go on about life like normal, and anyone with a comorbid condition just wish for the best (what percentage of Americans have hypertension, diabetes, copd, etc? Probably half the country at least). And it’s fine bc only .005% of you will die, which is not corroborated by any data or reputable news source.. that kind of insinuation from a physician is crazy

Here's what I don't understand- I've read that a coronavirus is what causes the common cold, and this is just one that is newer and stronger or whatever, and that we don't have natural immunity. There is no vaccine for the common cold (a coronavirus), we've always been told that. Why would I have any faith in ever seeing a vaccine for this coronavirus? Call me skeptical.

everyone someday will be in contact (aka infected ) with the virus and you got 99.994 percent of chance of survive it (calculate the number of death /total world population )

the second wave is the first wave of people who were isolated when the virus came to town

Please ,if you dont want to get in contact with it ,,,stay home and dont meet no one until you died from natural cause
one more thing ,,if you need a ventilator because of the virus ,,,it is a death sentence 90 % of the time

it is a sad situation but we need to deal with it
stop watching the new ,,,,they scare people

stay young ,,dont smoke, dont get diabetis, dont be immunosuppress and when you get the virus ,hope that you will be in the big group who survive it

The infectious diseases experts at UAB say most of this is nonsense, I trust them.

Yeah it’s really hard to believe he’s this renowned physician when he says stuff like this.. not to mention such horrible grammar and spelling

english is his second language and its a message board so grammar and spelling. his name might be a clue unless you are an idiot.

"everyone is going to get it anyway" is harmful nonsense that did not get lost in translation. IIRC Frenchy is an anesthesiologist, not an epidemiologist. He's been a great ally for UAB Football, but has shown kind of nutty views the past few months on corona

My comment was regarding a now modified post by someone else not what you are commenting on

I guess my point is, if we haven't developed a vaccine for a coronavirus that's been around for, I don't know, ever, I'm not buying that we're going to develop a vaccine for a coronavirus that's been around for fifteen minutes.

Yeah I am holding off optimism for a vaccine until a later time, but the news does seem to be positive on that front.. and how long will it take to mass produce and make widely available to the public once approved?? We can’t even get timely test results or available testing several months into this

Rt is 1.09. Doubling rate is 21 days. 7 day average positive test is 17.53%.

We don't have squat under control here. Those are the state average numbers per Bamatracker. Now consider that Jefferson County has the highest numbers in the state, our numbers are substantially higher than that.

The common cold doesn't kill people, so there's not a lot of money there. They were working on a SARS vaccine (and making progress) but the fact that the outbreak was stopped meant there wasn't a whole lot of point in continuing.

Moderna is already mass producing the vaccine they have in trials, so that if it is effective and approved, they can release it in mass quantities immediately

Well, people not taking the vaccine it's 100% on them. I get that herd immunity is a thing and we need everyone who can to take it, because there's some who can't, but I feel like it's way, way less dangerous out there with the vaccine even if there's some 5G-George Soros-Bill Gates conspiracy nuts out there who won't

Screw'em. I'll get mine as soon as I get a chance.

I'm kinda like Bates, although for different reasons. I have no idea if they can come up with a vaccine for Covid-19 or not, but I have zero faith in general about getting an effective one quickly. Usually they take a couple of years to develop, and in some cases have gone much longer without ever making one.

I will add an annual COVID shot to the annual flu shot that I get every year. I suspect that they will be similar in effectiveness.

I know my grammar is terrible because i never had a formal english class

i will give more info about my previous post
A Vaccine will help but i wont be perfect because this kind of virus mutate

My 99.994 number come from
600,000 death so far us number 140k
total population =8 trillions US population 328 millions
divide the small number by the big numbers
SIMPLE MATH

Stay home and social distancing is to decrease the number of people who are getting infected at the same time (keep some hospital bed for other disease ),,,,it is the same wave but lower picks ,but the same number (or surface under the curve )will end up the same or close ,,,,
Still simple math with a graphic

we can talk about an second or third wave if the virus change so far it didnt change

so far the best vaccine for the virus is walking in a big group with a protest sign (fyi it is joke )

Most Epidemiologist never treat a pt with a cold ,or any other pts anyway ,,
Let me give you an example
An epidemiologist ...it is like a super chef who never cook a meal but selling a lot a cookbook

it is a discussion ,,,dont get mad ..
Dont tell anyone name I am just telling some facts with number

Ready for some real discussion about football and basketball

So when you use the current number of deaths worldwide - ~600,000 - and divide it by the world's population to get your "99.994 number, " are you assuming that literally no one else will die of covid-19 or are you assuming that everyone in the world has already had covid-19? SIMPLE MATH, dumb inputs into the equation. The mortality rate in my area is at 1.1%, several orders of magnitude larger than your "99.994 number."

Everyone here knows the point of masking and social distancing - outside of maybe BlazinBham, who thinks this is all a race hoax perpetrated by wayfair-loving BLM lamestream media socialists. By omitting the utility of masking and social distancing from your previous posts you are insinuating that we should all just go on about life like normal and let the virus do what it will...

You assume too many stuff ,,,,I just show you some number and we can calculate at the end of the year and we will be close to 99.99 but you dont want to be the 0.01 %

I knew that my vaccine joke with a protest poster will bring some discussion ,,,,,
How many of those people who protest died from the virus ,,,I am expecting a very very low number ,,,,,
one area that nobody talk ,,,contact need to be prolong (minutes not second )

I am expecting a football season with no spectator
