I can't believe that they're going to have bowl season. Things will certainly change a lot in the next 5 months but with these things being planned so far in advance I doubt there will be any minor bowls. I do think the NCAA will keep the playoffs in tact.
The interesting thing to me is what happens if the SEC, ACC, and B12 keep the current schedule. There's no way that they could put a B10 or P12 team in the playoffs if they're playing 2-3 fewer games so my guess would be that those conferences are going to add extra conference games. I think the other conferences aren't making decisions until the end of the month and Im sure the only way they make a different decision is if things change over the next three weeks which seems unlikely.

IMHO the ACC and P12 just put themselves in a position where there champ has to run the table to make the playoff. With no OOC games, the SEC/B10 teams will have a much greater SOS. A one loss P12 will likely even lose out a spot to a one loss B10/SEC team as well (Clemson will likely get the benefit of the doubt if it is Clemson).

The SEC, B10, ACC and P12 can each play at least 11 games with no duplicates. The misnamed B12 is limited to 9.
What will the criteria be to play in a bowl, if there are bowls? If a winning record is needed a lot of P5 teams will miss the OOC semi assured wins that padded their records in past years.

RE: Big 10
I have no confidence whatsoever in anyone in any position of influence in this situation. The closer it gets to the season the flames of panic will be fanned and everybody will bail on everything citing "safety" just like they did on everything in March.
I mean, we all remember how Xavier actually played a BE tournament game in crap hole central NYC and how covid19 tore through first the basketball team, then the school, then Cincinnati, then Ohio, then the US, then the world and solar system like wildfire.
Wait a minute... it actually didn't, but who cares about facts when there's a good panic to whip up.
Right now they're promoting this senseless conference games-only narrative to keep the revolt at hand. By August 1, they'll pull the plug. Take it to the bank.
And we'll all sit around all fall hiding from that boogeyman... again. And somewhere Amy Acton will be smiling.

the ncaa makes exceptions for allowing bowl teams with losing records regularly if there are not enough teams to fill the bowl slots with teams that are .500 or with winning records. For the record, i don't know if all the g5 conferences will actually play their seasons so i'm not even saying all the bowls will be played.

That was likely true even with OOCs. And the argument about strength of schedule is why i don't think there will be a playoff. How does one even determine that if there are no ooc matchups as a point of comparison?
As far as bowl games go, i mentioned in different post that i don't think all g5 schools will play their schedules. Unlike p5s, they don't have nearly as much tv money to play for so i can see them cancelling.
That said, while i don't think all the bowl games will be played, i think the NY6 bowls with tradition bowl affiliations and some other larger bowls might still be in play.

Many of the G5 lose a pile of money every year so cancelling operations may have a silver lining.

Yeah - I'd like to know the reasoning for this decision.
But IMO, I don't expect any football to be played either.

Interesting point. At this point move it to spring or bag it. Our biggest issue here is no pro league has started back up to give us an idea how it will work. Maybe minds will change when MLB goes a few weeks.

What costs go away? Travel does. Players tuition, room and board does not. Coaches salaries do not.
All revenues are lost.

Thinking of the MAC here- they make very little money from ticket revenue. All their money is made taking up buy games so their alums can watch a B10 team. They are not going to make that money up during hoops— in fact they will lose more money.
A P5 school like OSU will be out a crap load of ticket revenue, but they will still sell a boat load of t-shirts and their fans and alums will donate in record numbers to make up for any ticket sales lost.

The sunk costs of scholarships and salaries are just that. Sunk. Everything else? Travel, staffing and infrastructure costs for operating the facilities exceed the revenue brought in for lot of them.
A school like Central Michigan counts on that $1.8 million for the buy game at Nebraska to keep the lights on.

Ever think the P5's subscribe to the Rahm Emanuel doctrine of never let a crisis go to waste?
The P5 may see this as an opportunity to force G5's out so they can control more TV time. No OOC games hurts G5 schools and little effects other P5. All G5 schools likely losing one buy game and many losing 2. FCS or bust for Akron, UMass, UConn, etc.
Conspiracy theory? Conspiracy fact?

If you were head of the P5....would you want to give exposure to the peons? Would you want to split your pot with them? Absolutely not! Look for the P5 to trim some fat as well.

Covid testing costs a lot too. Especially now when they have to do it repeatedly.

No I would attempt to crush them like cockroaches. Do no buy games and in 3 years FBS team would be under 100.
