RE: Big 10
Likelihood is, if the Big Ten is doing it, everyone else will announce they are doing it in the coming weeks. Everyone in college athletics has been waiting to see what the Big Ten and SEC will do. Have no idea how that will work out with contracted games (Rath mentioned earlier it may be unlikely due to every contract needing to be restructured), but the logical thing (ignoring legalities) would be to push future non-con schedules out one year for all FBS programs.

It's a shame there is so much legal red tape, money, and conflicting interests/egos involved, because there are ways to make this season happen with minimal risks that involve compressing and shortening the season and modifying schedules. At this point, I'll happily take an 8- or 10-game season over no season at all. I don't care if it means we have to play regional opponents in front of no fans, I really hope we get to see football this fall.

Or I would prefer the AAC go full round robin of 10 games, only Navy would likely object. Navy would need to still play 12 with Army and AF.

If all conferences go conference only where does that leave INDY of ND, BYU, Army, NMS, UMass, UConn and Liberty. I bet the ACC would find a way to increase ND Conference games. The other INDY schools could play home and home.

If all FBS conferences agree to scrap non-conference schedules, I'm fine with playing a round-robin of 10 games. Only problem is that it's really tough to evaluate how good a team is if they only play inside their own conference. Assuming the NY6 game still happens in this scenario, Boise State would have a huge advantage playing against a weaker conference slate.

As for the independents, maybe they get pulled into whatever the nearest conference is for one season. ND would likely still be affiliated with the ACC, but you would see BYU and New Mexico State playing with the MWC and UMass, UConn, Army, and Liberty playing with whoever will accept them out of the AAC, MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt. If not, I guess they would have to all play each other twice to get in a full season, or just sit the season out if they can't afford to play, which could likely be the case for UMass, New Mexico State, and UConn.

Under normal circumstances, I don't disagree. NFL doesn't develop prospects nearly as much as taking guys to contribute immediately. In the NFL good players on cheap rookie contracts are gold. If you wear yourself down playing spring football and can't fully participate in OTAs and are limited as a rookie you've lost value compared to the comparable prospect who decided to sit out spring football.

I may be wrong but I think this is pretty clear cut.

The only entity with enough juice to not follow is the SEC. And the clock is ticking because unless they announce they intend to play non conference games everyone else is going to cancel. I don't think they'll want to go out on that limb.

Other teams have these issues, our Bearcats and local pro teams just have a smaller room of error. If the Buckeyes, Wildcats or Notre Dame have adversity their fan base throws in more money and they come back stronger than ever. Meanwhile it takes us 10 years or more to build back up and be back to where we were before.

I wonder if the home game just becomes a game at Nebraska with a nice Red and White Check stapled to it.

Perhaps. UC was getting $400k for this trip and was due to pay Nebraska the same in 2025 for the game here.

I could see this turning into one off buy game. No way Nebraska is playing a road game here for not much $$ without a return game.

BTW, the 400k would have been UC’s biggest single payday for a game this year. Doesn’t sound like much but that hurts the budget a bit.

All of this hurts the budget a great deal. Bumping a game another year out sounds simple enough, but UC has pre-conference commitments scheduled years in advance. If UC gets Nebraska here at all in 2021 as planned, the trip to Lincoln sometime 2022 or after, causes lots of other puzzle pieces to move (I believe a home and home with IU was scheduled to begin immediately after the Nebraska series).

If pre-conference is wiped out universally, UC has also lost two home dates--or about a third of the home schedule maybe? It's not just ticket revenue; it's parking, beer sales, merchandise, and concessions. If the entire season gets cancelled, imagine trying to balance athletic budgets for all FBS schools? And I think we're on the precipice of losing the whole college football season now.

I wonder if conference schedules would be expanded should everyone move to conference only games this year.

RE: Big 10
The conference only games are a few things. If they are all conference games, they can have more of their own health standards as a conference.

A MAC/SWAC team comes in and plays a B10 team may not have the same precautionary standards as a B10 team with the bigger bank account. I.E. testing, facilities team doctors etc.

Kicking back the start a few weeks, while allowing maximum profits for their conference and their networks.

Dropped pass in the end zone against OSU, KMART, breaks leg, season cancelled when Cats have legit shot to run the table. Coincidences? I think not.

RE: Big 10
After further thought, the B10 plan creates winners and losers within the conference. OSU dodges a game @ Oregon that could have knocked it out of the CFP and probably assures the Buckeyes of an undefeated season. But the "have nots" in the B10 lose those guaranteed win pre-conference, home games which were probably the only pathway for those members to reach bowl eligibility (Rutgers, IU, PU, NU, UN?).

The bigger concerns now looming in my mind are, will there be a CFP and bowls at all? Will there even be a college football season? A friend who is a Michigan season ticket holder told me he doubts they'll play. They foresee a different problem. How do you seat 70,000+ season ticket holders, even in a 110,000 seat stadium, and maintain social distancing?

And UC is a big loser in all this by not getting an opportunity for a quality road win @ Nebraska. As someone else pointed out, the AAC may be so balanced, it knocks its own teams out of the way and clears a path for Boise or Appalachian State. While one could suggest that means the American is P6, I fear that won't be the media narrative. I guess if the wheels are this loose on the 2020 season I might be happier if they just pulled the plug.

Tell that to Michigan, who hasn't had a single-digit ranking in the final poll since 2007.

Harbaugh was signed to the richest deal ever. 7 years, $52 million before incentives, with the $5 million base salary guaranteed even if he's fired. Even 5 years later, he's still the 3rd highest paid NCAA coach.

He's 0-5 against OSU and only come close to making the playoffs once.

I see what you are saying, but a lot of schools in the P5 would love to have Michigan’s problems. They still have been generating money hand over fist and have been as successful in hoops as they have been since had 1980s/early 1990s.

Michigan is an interesting case: top rated public university, big tradition and history in football, winning seasons and high profile basketball too. But Wolverine football fans must be frustrated with their school's ROI when it comes to the football program. They really haven't been competitive with the bunch up I-71 which would also suggest Michigan can no longer be referenced with more successful programs outside the B10 such as 'Bama, LSU and Clemson.
