Quote:KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Nashville SC withdrew from MLS’s season-reopening tournament Thursday, becoming the second team to exit because of a coronavirus outbreak and raising anew questions about sports resuming competition during a pandemic.

The club reported nine players — about a third of the roster — had tested positive for the novel coronavirus since they arrived at a Disney resort, where all 26 teams are staying in a so-called bubble for several weeks.

Side note, I had to LOL yesterday when I read an article stating the NFL didn't want players to meet after games this fall out on the field and do their normal hand-shaking, jersey exchange, picture-taking with fellow college alums, etc. And, if they do, they want the players to social-distance at least 6 feet apart.

Are you kidding me? 01-wingedeagle

Hey, I appreciate the desire, but after guys have been tackling, blocking, breathing and sweating on one another for 3+ hours? I highly doubt a hand-shake after the game is going to make any difference one way or another. The NFL can be so stupid sometimes.

Same as the babe Ruth league in the Richmond suburbs. Kids are inches from each other out on the base paths and there’s regular contact as part of the game. BUT DON’T WORRY, NO HANDSHAKE LINES.

I just read this after mentioning it this morning.

This will be an issue with grade school teachers, and college professors.

Many won't be as carefree about it as Sandy.....

Quote:Three Arizona teachers shared a classroom for summer school. They thought they were being "very careful." All three contracted COVID-19, and one died. The teachers who survived say their colleague's death is a stark reminder of the risks teachers will face if school reopens too soon.

I have more belief now that the SEC will play football this fall one way or another. I mean, it just dawned on me that the Alabama run-off for senator is between Jeff Sessions and former Auburn FB head coach Tommy Tuberville. Just think about that. This is what this country has come to. College football in the deep south will most certainly take place this fall.

Breaking... this morning's Toronto FC vs DC United match has been postponed. More COVID positive tests on each team.

What a mess.

SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey, says "we are running out of time"...

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...-time/amp/

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said today that his level of concern is “high to very high.”

Being (perhaps by far) the most powerful voice in CFB, if the SEC eventually decides to fold, then I think the whole thing folds. Also, Pac-12 joins Big 10+4 in going to conference-only scheduling. ACC Commish Swafford says his conference will make a decision by end of the month...though, the widely-held belief is that the ACC will either go conference-only and Notre Dame and state rival allowances out-of-conference...or, by July 31st just call the whole thing off.

With continued lackadaisical attitudes towards this virus and folks not taking it seriously, it looks kinda bleak right now as far as any collegiate fall sports taking place...and, winter sports are in jeopardy as well sad to say.

I'm sure Tuberville's PE degree from Southern Arkansas University has him well prepared for life as a legislator.

Looks like Junior Colleges are all going to move Fall sports to after Jan 1. Football games would begin around March 25 and other Fall and Winter sports would begin in January. This directly affects the 512 NJCAA schools.

Big10 commish now expressing doubts. SEC in the same boat.

Tens of millions of dollars on the line for each of the P5 schools, however, I don’t see how this is happening. Not now. Not with 60k plus positive cases being added daily...DAILY...to the rolls of the infected. Campuses will be lucky to open on time, much less host varsity teams playing.

Somebody in charge of one of the P5 conferences needs to be the man and make the decision and announce what we all know is coming. There will be no college sports this Fall.

30-year old Texan dies from COVID-19 after attending a "COVID party"... https://www.cleveland.com/coronavirus/20...-says.html

“I think I made a mistake,” the man told a nurse, according to Appleby. “I thought this was a hoax, but it’s not.”

Looks like CFB gonna take a massive financial hit, $160M..ouch! Wonder what will happen to programs who were already struggling for many years, or barely surviving on shoe string budget.

The Patriot League is also expected to do the same as the Ivy League and postpone and/or cancel all fall sports. This may not impact their winter sports at this time.

Yep. Attendance was already on a steady decline YOY for the past near decade. The fat TV contract bubble will keep the P5's alive, but that bubble was already letting a lot of air out for much of the G5's.

I have to say though it is difficult for me to feel sorry for some, not all mind you, of these factories. They like to brag about how much they are making from TV contracts while also raising ticket prices at the same time. I can't feel sorry for them when they are spending 8 figures (or maybe closer to 9 figures) building stuff that really isn't necessary. I mean, spend however you like. But, just don't beyatch about lack of funds and doing a crying act while you are doing it.

Side note, and I please please please don't want this to be political, but I wonder if some involved in "Olympic" sports now might have a better appreciation for the cash-cow programs of Football and Men's Hoops with regards to how they often fund the rest of the athletic programs. That is, now we are seeing some programs cut altogether at some institutions. For years, I've heard/read coaches of "Olympic" sports taking potshots at FB and MBB pointing out inequities and so forth. The smart ones embrace the differences and are appreciative of those sports paying the bills. At least, I've always thought that to be the case. Just a thought...

Greg Madia
@Madia_DNRSports

JMU football COVID-19 test results:
97 tests administered
1 positive test (asymptomatic)
3 additional quarantined due to exposure to test

Team is working out today, minus those four exposed. This is according to assistant AD Kevin Warner.
