I wonder if the home game just becomes a game at Nebraska with a nice Red and White Check stapled to it.

Perhaps. UC was getting $400k for this trip and was due to pay Nebraska the same in 2025 for the game here.

I could see this turning into one off buy game. No way Nebraska is playing a road game here for not much $$ without a return game.

BTW, the 400k would have been UC’s biggest single payday for a game this year. Doesn’t sound like much but that hurts the budget a bit.

Per Justin Williams, there is a $1.5M buyout if Nebraska screws with our 2025 game.

My guess is that unless there is a meeting of the minds, if Nebraska pulls out and doesn’t want to pay due to them not getting the benefit of the agreed upon bargain, UC will be out of luck. There is a force majure clause which then becomes a debate about whether this qualifies as an act of god preventing full performance, yadda yadda yadda...UC would likely take less.

All of this hurts the budget a great deal. Bumping a game another year out sounds simple enough, but UC has pre-conference commitments scheduled years in advance. If UC gets Nebraska here at all in 2021 as planned, the trip to Lincoln sometime 2022 or after, causes lots of other puzzle pieces to move (I believe a home and home with IU was scheduled to begin immediately after the Nebraska series).

If pre-conference is wiped out universally, UC has also lost two home dates--or about a third of the home schedule maybe? It's not just ticket revenue; it's parking, beer sales, merchandise, and concessions. If the entire season gets cancelled, imagine trying to balance athletic budgets for all FBS schools? And I think we're on the precipice of losing the whole college football season now.

IMO this just buys more time to make the inevitable decision of kicking the can until Spring 2021. That has been the fallback position for over a month. I anticipate other conferences making similar decisions in the coming days.

I know. Arkansas State got rubbed raw by Miami a couple years ago when a Hurricane hit. It will be interesting to watch how this plays out.

Poor Central Michigan...they were due to get 1.8 million for one buy game this season the week before UC was set to play there. That could cripple them financially.

RE: Big 10
From the AD up north on I-71...

Quote:Shortly after the conference announced it would have a league-only schedule for the football season, Smith met with reporters to discuss the B1G’s decision. While he stands behind the decision and understands why it had to be made, it doesn’t make him feel any better about the possibility of having a season.

According to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors, Smith says he is “very concerned” about having a college football season this fall. Back in may, the OSU AD stated that he was “cautiously optimistic,” and was talking about having Ohio Stadium at potentially 50 percent capacity when the season kicked off.

Now, however, Smith says he’s “not even” cautiously optimistic regarding the season.

With the B1G’s decision, Ohio State has to eliminate Bowling Green, Buffalo and, most notably, Oregon from its nonconference schedule. The Sept. 12 showdown between the Buckeyes and Ducks in Eugene was one of the premier nonconference matchups in college football.

Smith said he has spoken to all three athletic departments and all three are considering future scheduling opportunities with Ohio State because of the conference’s decision.

Not Looking Good

SEC saying they did not want to do and wished the other conference had told them first, but they might have to cancel the OOC as well.

No.

Football is a tough sport. If you play in the spring all of a sudden you're asking guys to play 2 seasons in a calendar year. All NFL prospects would back out.

If not in the fall then cancel it.

Hmmm not entirely sure... Probably would be a lot of holdouts but I could also see a lot of guys like James Wiggins that simply need to play this year

Season is over in 3 months and before Thanksgiving, avoiding flu season. All games are either regional or conference only, with emphasis on minimal travel.

That is a great idea!

The NFL is going to want a guy who hasn't played since 2018 to play 32 games (12 college/20 pro) in 2021? I'd think it'd be added incentive for a guy like Wiggins to sit. I think itd be glorified JV football.

That's where this is all heading. Not just sports; classes are going to be cancelled, too, unless trends do a U-turn before month's end. People don't want to accept it, and the cognitive dissonance is intense, but the virus doesn't care about anyone's opinions.

[/quote]Probably for the sure fire draft picks. If that was Wiggins, he could've left this year. Football is unique in that they are more concerned than other leagues with how players mature in college.

Nebraska has open dates in 2024,2027,2029 and all years thereafter. UC also has 2024,2027 and 2029 open. So one of those could solve the issue.

RE: Big 10
So if UC plays 10 with 2 out of conference, which to drop besides NB. AP, MU or WM?

Or I would prefer the AAC go full round robin of 10 games, only Navy would likely object. Navy would need to still play 12 with Army and AF.

If all conferences go conference only where does that leave INDY of ND, BYU, Army, NMS, UMass, UConn and Liberty. I bet the ACC would find a way to increase ND Conference games. The other INDY schools could play home and home.
