To me, more important questions: how many potential member/posters are being driven away? How many long-time fans say the hell with it and just read the official website? They can get the same c*** on Twitter or other boards/blogs, so why not just lurk as a "guest" and occasionally amuse themselves.

Been a Huskies fan since fall 1972, but only on this board since early 2018. Thought it would be a great place to connect, get some reasoned opinions, new information, swap ideas, etc. Wow, was I wrong.

Took a hiatus over this c*** a month ago, came back, and ... it's worse. Politics and social platforming have infested and infected the Dog Pound to the point of disease. Now we're attracting b***s**t from other board(s), apparently just for their amusement, since I didn't see them posting that c*** on their own board.

IMO, going to get to the point where the Dog Pound has no real value to Huskies fans or the Huskies.

So ... REAL Huskies fans ... take back the board!

Look now; I just saw all those purely political posts and they are deleted, as was done in another thread which is now closed.

BTW no one reported those posts. I would ask all to report posts that violate the rules; it would help the mods.

RE: Two Months to Opener!
Great respect for you and all Mods, but saw Stay Cool came on and tried to warn some people, and got dissed. IMO, Mods shouldn't have to step in since most of the time adults should be able to self-regulate.

IMO, this board was created and exists for discussion of Huskie athletics, the athletic program, the athletic department, university that governs the athletic department, the Mid-American conference as a member, the larger topics regarding college athletics, and such extended topics as pro recruiting, etc. Even Covid-19 and how it affects sports is fair game. These are all areas in which NIU Huskie athletics is a "participant," for lack of a better word.

Being selfish, I'd like to read some stuff about how Covid-19 has affected NIU sports so far (nothing from official channels ... typical, isn't it?) since I'm tired of reading about everywhere else, plans for football and other fall/winter sports (nothing from official channels ... typical, isn't it?), how not only fb players are coping but how other student-athletes are prepping, how athletics is using this time to make facility and other plans for beyond Covid-19, etc etc etc. Here it is July and we know zip-squat about options for the fall schedule if any, how Northern would deal with the potential loss of income from Iowa game if not played, how arrangements with SeatGeek would be affected (a compensatory deal for a game in 2021?) and more etc etc etc.

A shout out to Big Red and others for keeping us posted on MBB, Fade2black on WBB, and the official website people, whoever they are. It's something.

There are plenty of Huskies topics out there.

Thank you NILAW. From now on I'm reporting every political post and I encourage others to do the same. I come here to get away from that stuff and not only is it annoying, it drives good posters away. Time to take the board back.

NIU is planning for a combination of hybrid and online classes. The latter is self explanatory. Hybrid means partially in the classroom and partially online. The classroom part will require adherance to social distancing guidelines so typically only half or so of a class will be in the classroom at a time. The other half will either be watching online or doing project work outside of class.

When students go home for Thanksgiving they will stay home and finish the last couple of weeks of the semester plus finals online.

That's the plan for now. A shift to entirely online instruction will take place prior to Thanksgiving if events require it.

Last I heard they were looking at about a 10% enrollment drop but that could have changed either way.

As for living arrangements, they are giving every dorm resident their own room. That is possible because NIU has excess dorm capacity due to enrollment losses since the Great Recession.

"As for living arrangements ..." So a negative becomes a positive. A good thing to hear/read, especially since it means some room-and-board revenue coming in. Social distancing may turn out to be more negative for schools that already have full or nearly full dorms.

Apparently, ICE may ask students on foreign visas who are attending college online (regardless of their choice) to go home (not extending or revoking their visas). Anyone know how many foreign students NIU has and if that will be another hit the school doesn't need?

Come to think about it...I would have assumed NIU went to solo dorm room residency prior to COVID. That to me is a selling point: a dorm environment but having your own room. I know that is new hall but why not fill up all the dorms as I know many sit empty.

That really is a good way to spin a negative into a positive. Now if they can get $20k Per room we are all good!

Can you imagine what it is like to wear PPE clothing, including masks and face shields, all day long? That's what happens when you work in a hospital. Luckily, my wife has not had to often work directly with COVID patients, but she has.

My wife got a very mild case of COVID in May. She had no fever. Just lost her sense of small and taste for a week and had a little bout of depression. That was it, thank God. Not even a fever. So, obviously, I have been exposed but had no symptoms.

COVID is real. True, if you divide the number of those who have/have had COVID over the entire U.S. population, the percentage is small. But, people who think they are invincible are not. My wife has had patients who were fine one day, diagnosed with COVID the next day, and then died a few days later. Those who doubt the reality and seriousness of this virus just need to stand a day in her shoes. Thank God for people like her. But, I do worry a hell of a lot.

Having just seen this post simply wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to your wife for her work. Hope and pray neither she, you, or anyone else has to deal with this situation.

Thanks very much, uiniu57. It is a daily worry for us, but we'll live through it (hopefully). My wife got a bit of a reprieve yesterday. She does not have to wear the face shield (except when seeing COVID patients). She now just wears goggles together with a face mask the entire day. Tough to do on hot days.

My wife is not a nurse, but she is in an allied health profession and sees patients her entire work day. Some people she sees are okay one day and then diagnosed with COVID the next day. So, she is exposed all the time. She has the antibodies, but that is no guarantee.

Where or what is your source for this info?
Rhode Island is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association for football and yesterday's (7-17-2020) CAA press release stated: CAA Football became the latest domino to tumble in college football, announcing on Friday it will not have a conference schedule this fall due to concerns over the global COVID-19 pandemic. The 12 members of the conference, however, are allowed to pursue independent schedules.

From the Rhode Island athletic website, there is no specific mention yet of their football plans.

Welp....not much of a surprise but it still hurts.

Without the BIG paydays we couldn’t have paid them to visit us anyway.

All we can hope for now is a MAC season of some sort.

Okay, if this is truly the case, then what the hell is wrong with NIU Media Relations? Why isn't something updated on the Huskie website. Better yet, why isn't there just a short story with some spin from Frazier or Hammock? "We understand Rhode Island's decision, but we are still moving ahead and monitoring circumstances relative to the remainder of our schedule. Should upcoming schedules provide an opening that fits, NIU will still welcome the Rams to Huskie Stadium sometime in the future."
So an FCS operation is making an announcement regarding our home schedule? That should not happen at any true FBS (Division I) institution.
