Fireworks last night
I live about a mile (maybe 3/4 mile) from the city limit of Chicago and I’ve never seen/heard something like last night. Now….I’ve never been in a "combat zone" but if I could imagine what a full fledged artillery assault would sound like, that’s how I’d describe almost every night for the past 2 months here.

But last night….couldn’t be described as such. Honestly, I don’t have words to describe last night. If in the past two months, I’d hear roughly 50 to 70 explosions an hour, I’d have to say I was hearing roughly 1,000 explosions per second last night for about 4 straight hours (could have been longer). It was a literal constant sound from 360 degrees around of hundreds if not thousands of explosions all at the same time. There was never a pause, even for a second. It was constant.

And I’m not exaggerating either. I haven’t looked, but there has to be video with audio good enough to hear it on the internet someplace. And from what I could tell, the entire city and immediate suburbs were coated in haze from it all.

I’m 45 and I’ve never, in my life, heard anything that is even comparable to last night.

What in the Hell are you talking about?

weird some how my reply got attached to your fireworks post rather than the thread about the season getting cancelled. I just deleted it

I agree with you. I'm in the Western suburbs, and it sounded like a war zone all night long. Usually on the 4th I'll hear it for a few hours, and it ends around 10, but it just kept going last night.

Yep, same with where I live. It was constant and loud. I don’t know where these people are getting all this money to see it all go up in smoke (literally). The good thing is that the economies of Indiana and Wisconsin got a great big shot in the arm.

2020 is a special year!!! Nothing like most of us have ever experienced. People are tired of being told what to do and how to live. Last night was a representation of that.

Ha! That's hilarious. I thought you'd gone off the deep end.

It was the same in Bolingbrook - I was at a relative's in the afternoon and the night. It was steady during the afternoon, but once it got close to dark it was the loudest, brightest and longest I have ever seen/heard by far. The one group (of the many) firing them off for over 3 hours looked and sounded much more like commercial grade. It stopped being entertaining/curious/interesting when we had several hot embers land in the yard and close to people; and we were several houses from that group, so it was much worse for the houses/people closer. We and several others told them to cool it, and they did somewhat.

RE: Fireworks last night
So far, this is the best video I've found of it. I think this is the west side of the city.

And this video is 12 minutes. But in real life, it went on like this for at least 5 hours.

Unfortunately, there is no sound (other than patriotic music) so you can't get the full experience.

RE: Fireworks last night
This past month, last night was worst ever. I can’t believe the size, sound in quantity and quality of fireworks. I’m not sure if they got bigger, cheaper . I did see stories of people in news saying the same. One explanation was boredom and escape from reality during pandemic and stressful times as a whole. I think a lot of people spent their $1200 check in them too.

We have legalized pot in IL - Why not fireworks? All of these fireworks are being bought over the border in WI and IN.
