(snip)

See, this is one reason I just fork over $199 a month (just paid the July bill this morning) for my COX Cable: It's just easier: I don't have to spend time investigating all the various streaming plans and packages out there to save $30 a month or whatever. I'm not hurting financially, so it just isn't worth the hassle of cobbling together streaming plans, constantly trying to min-max the latest deals and incentives, etc.

Frankly, I'd rather pay a bit more per month than have to deal with that.

My COX bill does include my internet, that's about $70 of it. Throw on top $25 extra I pay for Netflix and Disney+, and I pay around $155 a month for TV. I can live with that.

My one hassle occurs in November: That's when COX always tries to boost my rate, usually by about $40. So I get on the phone with their "retention" department, threaten to sign with ATT Uverse or YouTube, and they cut the rate increase back to something reasonable, like $10.

Right when that method stopped working is when I ditched cable

The fees on cable companies and satellite are out of control... Fees for HD, DVR,modems, each additional receiver that adds up to another 50 or more a month really quickly. I remember way back when Comcast used to charge $3 a month just for a remote to the cable box.

Yup! For me, still a better deal than cable, but that gap has narrowed considerably. At this rate, the remaining gap might very well disappear in a year or so.

Yes, I love the experience with streaming and not dealing with annoying calls to cable companies. Those calls may have to start again if YTTV doesn't stop raising prices. I don't even care about any of the new additions they've added to cause the increase. TV has us by the ba!!s!

Why can’t there be an all-sports OTT service or one where you could pick 10-15 channels for $30??? This is what consumers want!

Cable is cheaper in a way for me, but... the added costs of ‘renting’ boxes still is the deal breaker. It adds another $40+ dollars/month.

But I’m still way under with my s Philo TV at $20/ month and OTA.

I think it's because the same media conglomerates that own the sports networks also own other types of networks. When they're making a deal with a cable company, they want their entire package available. They make more money that way.

Of course, for us sports fans, we would rather them just isolate the sports product, but they probably don't make as much money that way.

ESPN by itself would be at least $10. ESPN 2/U/News and the others would make it close to $20

Yeah the streaming experience is way better in my opinion. I don't miss channel surfing through garbage channels like QVC and Sci-fi only to end up watching the second half of Backdraft on TBS.

I like a searchable menu, cloud DVR with no boxes. It's just easy.

So what? I would pay $50-75 a month for a sports package only. Especially if I could customize it a-la-carte. Who would choose to pay for ESPNews? I know why they don’t offer it, but all these OTT offering are becoming cable without the contracts, equipment and installs.

Sling Orange has ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3 authentication, TBS, TNT and Stadium for $30, together with 25 non sports channels. That is the cheapest option for subscribing to ESPN.

For relatively complete sports packages, YouTube TV and Hulu + Live are the only realistic options. Fubo and Vidgo are both missing TBS and TNT now, which therefore omits half of the NBA national games, a big part of the MLB playoffs and, most importantly for this board, the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Also worth noting, Fubo followed YouTube's lead today and increased its price to $60 as it adds a Disney/ESPN channel package and drops its WarnerMedia/AT&T channel package.

Sling Orange is pretty good, missing FS1 and some other channels. As you mentioned, Fubo dropped the Turner channels and added ESPN. That is the problem with every single service, it's always missing something. Let us pick 15 channels for $50 or something. I don't want Disney Jr and ABC Family. I would rather pay $10 for ESPN alone, than $8 for ESPN and a bunch of Disney owned channels.

At this point, cable networks have to be careful not to offer more advantageous deals to the Over the Top competitors than they do to traditional cable and satellite providers. This includes requiring providers to inclusion of a minimum group of corporate sister channels in order to offer high demand channels like ESPN. This limits their ability to build packages in a more flexible manner.

If you are willing to pay around $50 there are some good options. Hulu + Live TV is only $55 and includes essentially all of the key channels with national sports rights (the NFL Network being the notable exception) and many (but not all) RSNs. YouTube TV was an incredible deal at $50, less so at $65.

If there are only a handful of key channels that you want, though, you may be able to find a good combo with Sling Orange or Sling Blue, or Vidgo, in the $30-40 range. As a Syracuse fan, the key channels for me are ESPN, ESPN2, ACCN, TBS and TNT. I can add CBS for one month during the NCAAT for $6. Sling Orange with Sports Extra gets me all of those for $40. However, when you compare that to Hulu + Live TV, you can get a huge number of extra channels, sports and other, essentially for just $15.
