The massive decline has been a more recent event.

Yes there was a drop off that started a little over 20 years ago.

But that was due to the bandwagon jumpers moving on to the next big thing.

Tracks overbuilt during the bandwagon period and had empty seating after they left.

But the basic core group of fans still remained.

Recently we have seen empty seating at tracks which have had waiting list for years.

The last five years have seen large patches of empty seats at Martinsville and Bristol.

The core base of fans are now leaving.

LOL 160,000 attended the Food City 500 in 2008 and you say there were empty seats.

It was 2102 before the Saturday night race dropped below 150,000 in attendance.

Reported attendance is not actual attendance.

Bristol began having empty seats then.
