Interesting and unique edge would be the rioting in South Bend, Indiana if they got placed in a conference with Marshall, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee.

While Clemson would absolutely destroy us year in and year out, ECU is still on board because we'd finally have a winning conference record.

Clemson - Yikes - L
South Carolina - Tough Matchup - L
VT - Can be done - Push
Virginia - Wild Card - Push
Wake Forest - Wild Card - Push
App - Wild Card - Push
NC State - Yes Please - Win
Duke - Yes Please - Win
ODU - Yes Please - Win
UNCC - Yes Please - Win
UNC - Highlight Reel - This should count as 2 wins

Call it 7-4. We'll take it!

Yeah selfishly W/L records for SC would improve quite a bit

History doesn't support your optimism. You are a combined 70-93-2 against that lineup. You only have a winning record against UVA and ODU. Seems to me that the cupcake you are referring to would be you.

Within the G5 we often debate which conference is at the bottom. Forte's formula (5 year average Sagerin Rating, 2020 US News and World Report National University Rankings, & 2018-19 Learfield Cup all sports ranking) seems to lay out a pecking order.

Number of teams per conference demoted to the FCS in Forte's article...

1- MWC (San Jose State)
1- MAC (Bowling Green)... the MAC should have lost 2 or 3
2- C-USA (UTEP & UTSA)
2- Independents (New Mexico State & Liberty) ... Liberty has too much money to be sent down
5- Sun Belt (Texas State, UL- Monroe, South Alabama, Troy, & Coastal Carolina)

In Forte's realignment plan, half of the Sun Belt would be sent down to the FCS.

I could see sending down all of those Sun Belt teams except Troy. Probably not the 2 CUSA teams or NMSU. Trade those 4 for UConn, UMass, EMU, and either Akron or Kent State?

Lol, the chances of Fielding Yost coming back from the dead and being named president of the University of Notre Dame for eternity are much higher than that fantasy conference coming into being.

No, after looking at the ranking and rating he used to select his 120, it appears to be about a combination of winning and academics. Personally, I think Akron, Kent State, and UMass should have been sent packing too.

Akron, Kent, & UMass have better overall athletic depts. and better academics than the schools he demoted.

Akron, Kent, & UMass have better overall athletic depts. and better academics than the schools he demoted.

Akron (US news Rank-293-381) Academically, that isn't very good. In fact Bowling Green has better academic, but still got the boot. Also, Akron is broke. Their university has been cutting degree programs since 2018, and their athletic department probably can't afford too many more cuts. The current pandemic isn't going to improve their situation. Plus, Akron finished 0-12 last football season. They should go.

Kent State (US news Rank-211) Respectable academics, but Kent State only average about 12K fans per game. There are more deserving programs for that spot.

Umass (US news Rank-64) Great academics, but UMass only averaged 9,498 per game last season, while going 1-11. Guess who their one win was over?.... Akron. You can't convince me one of the teams left out doesn't deserve the UMass spot more.

Over the last half decade, during a slew of 3,4, and 5 win seasons, we have a .500 record against that lineup.

Definitely merits a slow clap for a ridiculous scenario that would never happen, given to us in list form in a major US publication.

Great article by Pat Forde. The most realistic realignment article I've seen these last few months. In this scenario Georgia Tech would probably finish 9th in the Deep South conference. That's being generous though so they would probably be the 10th or 11th best team in that conference.

Somebody is still feeling salty about their paddlin'.

It is not me. I would love to see all 10 conferences go to 16 to make it 160 teams in FBS. Would bring more G5 schools into the P5 andmore FCS schools that do not belong at FCS be brought up.
