We are in a weak league in basketball, and our OOC tough schedule has us playing Elon, JMU, Northeastern, W&M all CAA teams. Also we play D3 Virginia Wesleyan and a last place East Carolina team and a VCU team that lost everybody. Anther easy 20 wins for JJ in mediocre season. I am not sure JJ try's to schedule any tougher teams, that my mean losses. As long as JJ is their, the schedule will always be mediocre because this coaching staff can't recruit any better talent, except maybe transfers. JJ's specialty!
I don't see how anyone can complain about this schedule.
Maybe, you would be happy to go back to the CAA! I do not see upward movement, in scheduling quality teams for this coach, as long as he is here. With the teams (for the most part) that we play, that assures JJ of a winning season.
You must have me mixed up with someone.
If we play a bunch of teams that are top 150 and very little teams above 200 as a non conference slate, that is about the best we can ask for. We aren't getting a bunch of P5 games no matter how much people wish it on us.
I am not looking at P5 schools, just stronger teams vice the same schools we schedule each year, just to get OOC wins.

Sad. Stats, metrics, w/l's all aside, this program has slipped IMHO. We all have different points of view, but my impression is we have lost ground.

Wow. That is sad. On another note, Richmond is stacked this year, and this guy seems to think WKU should be pretty darn good too.

I'm not really surprised to see that ODU was left off the list.

I think very possible Wade would have made it if not for the injury. He played at that level.

Now if we can't blame JJ for this demise, who is to blame? It is so sad to see this once really good program fall to this level. I'm sure a lot in here will have excuses to cover JJ but this is unacceptable. We used to be on the same level with VCU, Richmond, GMU and W&M but not anymore. We are lucky to be on the same level as Norfolk State & Hampton with so much more to offer.

Not just same level, we were much better than GMU and W&M.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting: 2020
It was one bad season. Y’all are the biggest bunch of softies. Your pitty parties are getting old. We just beat all those teams one year ago. Richmond was complete garbage for 3 straight seasons. Now they are going to have two really good teams in a row. And we “aren’t on their level”? We beat them like 4 times in a row. They beat us by two freaking points last year. I’m not gonna talk about the William and Mary thing anymore. They’ve had our number. But they also used to lose 20 games every single season. They’ve had a lot of winning seasons lately. Shaver did a great job there. I just can’t get on board with our “program has fallen so far... poor me, poor us”. Give me a break. **** happens. We literally scored 65 points a game this year and allowed 65 points a game. It was one ****** season in which we lost a ton of games by 2 freaking points. Go cry yourselves to sleep. The softness is embarrassing.

What a pointless, absurd post.
This team has done nothing under JJ and looks rudderless in season 7.
He hasn’t even approached Blaine’s best and I always thought he underperformed based on what Odu was and could be.
Now we need to accept that JJ has done a good job? Laughable.

Yet, he’s got a point on how hyperbolic some of the opinions have gotten. Claiming we’re worse than pretty much everyone in the state is a good example of that. Sure, W&M has had our number but I’d bet they would trade it for our NIT run and NCAA appearance.

That is easy to blame. WOOD SELIG pushed very hard on the second round of discussions. Never forget a friend, that was a great friend at UVA. Also, JJ had 18 years at lowery American and no one wanted him. JJ's last season at American was a terrible, but Wood to the rescue.

Jason Wade had a better year last year than at least 33% of that list, FWIW.

It's not the losses last year, it's who we played. I think you called them softies. Heck even JMU beat us. As long as we have an older coaching staff, we are going no where. Maybe back to the sunbelt or big south. Seven years of seeing this is not called progression, for our fans.

I keep hearing about how there are a bunch of great big men on the portal. Have we made offers to any of them? Are we still actively recruiting for the year? Has JJ changed his mind and is going to sink or swim with his current team? Did we ever figure out if we even had a scholarship to give?

You mean the same opinion? Or the only opinion? three times a day I might add.
I don’t even come here to defend JJ. I don’t give a damn about the coach. Y’all are all soo obsessed with the one guy. I just don’t get it. What a sad way to watch sport. I’m a fan of the game. I love hoops. Like I’ve said before... I didn’t go see the Bulls play in 92 to watch Phil Jackson.
