interesting that we'd be picking up another punter when that is supposed to be a strength for us, and we have two backups on the roster. It makes me wonder if this is a "get someone with game experience corona decision". Sort of, "What do we do if Julien comes down with the virus and is ineligible to play?" I wonder if and how much that kind of thought process is going to work its way into short term recruiting strategies.
Possible walk-on?

but he'd have to sit out 2020 as he is transferring up (there is a waiver for transferring down).
That said, you do raise an interesting point for a position like K or P where there isn't a lot of depth (for obvious reasons, one isn't going to use a scholarship for a 2nd or 3rd string punter).

Wow! Great post! I NEVER thought about this angle but it is incredibly eye-opening! The world has experienced a seismic change, this might be an offshoot of such. Depth may indeed trump quality with respect to recruiting. Think about the 2017 team. Roback was our QB and if he tested positive, we would have had to rely on Steibling or burn Hutchinson's redshirt, neither an attractive option.

Guys, think we are over thinking it.
This prospect would be a junior transfer sitout and suceed Julien in 2021.
Nothing to do with the 2020 season.

Welcome!
I live in the Columbus area, and that's a big boy high school football conference! The conference produces a ton of D1 one prospects! He went head to head with Jack Sawyer who is A 5 star recruit, and the #1 DL in the nation! Sawyer signed with Ohio St! That's what we need to get over the hump, win recruiting battles......Great job CC, and staff!
I liked the tape I saw on Hudl. Wonder if he is underrated?

Yeah, the 247 page is apparently missing some offers. Smith had FBS offers from Air Force, Coastal Carolina, and Charlotte.

Actually we were one of five FBS schools to offer.
BTW, several of his offers were from Ivy League schools. Believe I saw a nice ACT for him. He compares favorably with the EMU student body.

Congrats to the young man and welcome to the EMU Fam! This looks like a good get for us. On tape he looks raw but talented. He will have a couple yrs to develop and possibly compete for a spot in his RS Soph year. I think this is a good player who will help.
