Praying for you guys.

Is there anything in the thread that isn’t accurate? It’s not a political thread and it’s not on the political forum, but simply pointing out that, unfortunately, sports talk radio in this town, has turned into political theatre. It just has, like it or not.

Yep and even the most political people, even those that may agree with Caulkins and Parrish don’t want to hear politics and lecturing everywhere they go...it gets tiresome

In their defense, there’s not an awful lot going on in the world of sports these days.

Was like this 2+ years ago when I stopped listening. Sounds like it’s gotten much, much worse. Glad I stopped when I did.

Nonsense. The Lumberjack World Championships are a year away. There will always be something in sports to talk about.

Too many good podcasts to listen to on a multitude of subjects plus I have little patience for ignorance, arrogance and belittlement. I listen to Chris Herrington segment with Calkins podcast (skip rest of it). When football comes around, I will listen more to Sports56 if I remember to. I do listen to Chris Vernon here and there as he is closest to Lapides as we have.

Is it just me, or do some folks claiming to not listen to local sports talk radio seem to know what the hosts are talking about daily?

I am sure all of us turn the dial back, hoping for real sports talk only to be disappointed....like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football.

It's so strange that these sports shows have started talking about politics and coronavirus when there are 0 sports being played in the US and the country is facing a mammoth pandemic with huge civil unrest and it's an election year. What's up with those guys?

Gary and Geoff did not just start talking about politics, they have been doing it for years. Calkins is obsessed with racism and sexism and brings it up in every interview he does with a woman or minority. I stopped listening to him after hearing his disparaging remarks about the police, but prior to that it was constant lecturing about how I should view social situations in the same manner in which he does. Problem is I don't agree with his position. I stopped listening to Parrish years ago for the same reason. No other sports show hosts that I listen to locally express their opinions on political or social issues and that is how it should be. As a CPA when clients come into my office I do not start telling them how they need to view the world. I'm sure many would take it as an insult.

Parrish has a millennial mindset that anybody that has a different opinion than his is stupid, bigot, racist. sexist, unscientific...etc he has called out his listeners on air in such a way many a times and there’s a reason he rarely open the lines

When would that be? I listen some every day and mostly IF they are talking about sports and not "name that tune". I'm sure it's hard to do a sports talk show when there's no sports but remembering former games, players or potential best of would be better than playing games or talking about everything BUT sports. The pandemic is touching every facet of our lives. Until a vaccine is found it will probably not change much.

Well this is the point. Anyone that wants to listen to that Sh!t can just tune into to 90% of the MSM.

People have forever looked to sports as an escape from politics.

Now, it's just politics everywhere. ALL. THE. DAMN. TIME. EVERY. FU@KING. TIME

This is a total cop out. You can easily talk about sports for 2 hours.

Sure.. it's slow. but there are plenty of things to discuss without ever getting into the BS they get into.

It's called Virtue Signaling. They both have a Doctorate.

Also, like many virtue signalers, they are almost always partially informed or completely uninformed. The commentary is ALWAYS biased at best.
