Spot on. We talked to a lot of coaches during Alex's recruiting process. Some sleaze, some polished bs, some legitimate good guys, but CC was in a class of his own. As a parent, I walked away from the first meeting with CC totally impressed, and continue to feel that way every time I speak with him.

Alex and I were talking the other day and I asked him if he had any regrets about not going to Washington State or the Air Force Academy; or not jumping at Virginia when they told him they had a spot for him if he could make their camp in three days (he couldn't...had another recruiting commitment); or passing on the preferred walk-on slot at Michigan. The answer was an unequivocal, "No." He commented about how during the Corona shut down, out of the blue, he got a phone call from CC. Creighton wanted to know how Alex was holding up, and proceeded to talk to him for 15 minutes about his expectations of him for the coming year (which are pretty high). Alex said he chose EMU because of Creighton, and calls like that continue to confirm to him that he made the right choice.

And I have a feeling all the other players received a similar call from CC. Because that's the kind of man he is.

Thanks Cid for your candor in sharing the insight of yours and Alex’s perspective!!! Very much appreciated!!

EMU football recruiting is not perfect but I believe still on the upswing. The quality of the recruiting keeps inching and improving upward.
Wait until Alex’s class and the 2020 class are seniors! Heck we don’t have to wait because he’s taken marginal MAC classes and gone to three bowl games in 4 years. Look at last years class:

“Eastern's highly anticipated class features 19 student-athletes rated as three-star prospects by the national recruiting services and two of the top-10 rated recruits in EMU Football history. Furthermore, 18 of the additions come from within a 270 mile radius of Ypsilanti.”

I trust in Creighton!!

Yeah...that was under Leach. He is an interesting character. Very charismatic, but as he was talking to you, it felt like he was always looking over your shoulder for someone else to talk to. At the parent meetings he attended, the assistant coaches would start the meeting rolling, then a few minutes in would introduce Leach and he'd come strolling in like God's gift to football. Can't argue with his success, but what he built was like a house of cards that would fall apart without him.

Alex was turned off at Washington State because when he went out with the players the Friday and Saturday night of his official visit, he said the guys just sat around bitching about the coaching staff and bad-mouthing the program. Not the kind of stuff you want to do to impress recruits.

Awesome insight. Thanks Syd.

That's great perspective, Sid. Thank you for the info. It confirms everything I see about him. I did not go to EMU and started following the team when he came on because I thought this guy is tacking something HUGE to try and turn it around and he has done that with his personality and recruiting guys like Alex. Super happy Alex decided to join up with EMU and looking forward to seeing Alex and others in action this season. Should be a fun group to watch. (Alex should be in line for p.t. this season and each year after which will allow for a lot of experience and ability to help the team.)

I'm looking forward to seeing him play (obviously)! If there is any positive about this COVID thing, during the shutdown Alex hooked up with Van Hoeven and they worked out together nearly every day, running and lifting. It's nice to have a senior take you under their wing like that. They both showed up on the first day of optional workouts last week in great shape and tested well in the conditioning drills. Alex said that as a group, the O-line was generally in better condition returning to workouts than many of the other squads. These guys want to play!

RE: Unofficial 2021 Football Recruiting Thread
As I indicated, I went through the EMU 2020 roster and used the 'class' option and came up with 22 scholarship juniors. The good thing is that our classes are nicely balanced. I counted EIGHT juniors who are either WR or TEs. Otherwise, we have 14 other scholarship players among the 11 defensive and 7 other offensive positions.

As I suggested, if the staff is going for frosh, then the 2021 frosh class would redshirt in 2021 and step in in 2022, when the current juniors are gone.

https://emueagles.com/sports/football/ro...sort=class

I still see a big need at LB, otherwise,

BTW, we have 4 SENIOR DLs who could start or see major minutes, i.e., Eddington, Scott, Holford, and Rush. Would like to have say 2 JUCOs.

I would go heavy at WR/TE and also LB and generally go for best player available at other spots, e.g., RB, OL, DL, DB, etc.

Interesting QB prospect. We are one of 4 MAC teams to offer.

Rockets have 5 QB's on the roster with 1 commit(1 Sr, 1Soph, 3 Fr, 1 Commit). I'd be surprised UT signs another QB. Taylor is a talent.

You make some good points:

1). Even though TOL has offered Taylor it is unlikely that the offer still stands. Based on what the poster indicated, it would seem unlikely that TOL is interested in another frosh QB in this class.

2). As I've noted many times, offers are contingent on an available scholarship AT THAT POSITION. No team is going to take 5 QBs, 3 punters, 3 kickers, etc. etc. It might be one of each. It behooves a recruit to do his homework and commit early if he has a fairly strong preference for a particular school.

3). Taylor does look like an interesting prospect. Would be a very good redshirt candidate to put on say 10 - 15 lbs of muscle on his thin frame. Otherwise, the tools are there. Just needs some 'meat on the bones.'

170 lbs. coming out his Jr season, he could grow an inch or two and pack on some pounds, be a force as RSFr.

Welcome!
I live in the Columbus area, and that's a big boy high school football conference! The conference produces a ton of D1 one prospects! He went head to head with Jack Sawyer who is A 5 star recruit, and the #1 DL in the nation! Sawyer signed with Ohio St! That's what we need to get over the hump, win recruiting battles......Great job CC, and staff!

I liked the tape I saw on Hudl. Wonder if he is underrated?

That was my thought, at least in terms of "star rankings." Kid is not even ranked on 247 but has now committed to a D-1 school and had offers from Air Force, Army, App State, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Liberty, UCF, and Toledo....something doesn't add up.

My guess is CC just landed a good one!

Sometimes 247 lags in rating G5/lower tier P5 recruits. I'm guessing eventually they update and give Warnsman a higher-end 3-star.

In Ohio, if we could land a few recruits from the OCC conference in Columbus, which I mentioned, and the GCL in Cincinnati, and Cleveland, seriously we would win the MAC ever year! Those two conference, no exaggeration produce 40-50 D1 prospects a year! The GCL is Moeller, Lasalle, St Xavier, and Elder from Cincinnati, and St Edwards, and St Ignatius from Cleveland! We've 2 or 3 kids from Moeller, who were RS freshman last year! The GCL arguably is the best for conference in America! Multiple NFL players played at those schools! Patton needs to make big time relationships with those schools!

You are right about the talent. I checked one school, Dublin Coffman, and they have 4 power 5 commits + our commit.

That is at ONE high school, one academic class.

There's 3 Pickerington school's in that high school conference, D1 athletes in every sport! The Dinkins kid from Walnut Ridge is a absolute beast, if we could land him, that would be the amazing!

interesting that we'd be picking up another punter when that is supposed to be a strength for us, and we have two backups on the roster. It makes me wonder if this is a "get someone with game experience corona decision". Sort of, "What do we do if Julien comes down with the virus and is ineligible to play?" I wonder if and how much that kind of thought process is going to work its way into short term recruiting strategies.
