What would be the point? The remaining MEAC schools would lose their autobid and have to share the WAC's, plus add crippling travel distances to their financial woes. Better off dropping to DII. The WAC certainly doesn't benefit either. They're actually more stable than another DI conference right now.

In theory you'd have the WAC and MEAC divisions that never played each other in the regular season. Playoffs would determine division champions, then division champs face each other for the bid.

It is by no means ideal, but if there's concern that the MEAC (and to a lesser degree the WAC) are in danger of dropping below the D1 standard, this would be a marriage of convenience to keep them above water until a better solution presents itself.

If I’m the Big South, I’d get on top of Norfolk St and NC Central right now. That gives the 4 HBCUs a trio of HBCU games yearly.

Virginia State told the MEAC to kick rocks a few months back. But with FAMU and now BCU out that helps travel tremendously.

I was going to say, now that Orangeburg SC is the longest trip, you're not going to be able to ask for better D1 conference travel

If the Big South wanted to go in for the kill with Central and SC State, now would be the time

If you need proof that David doesn't know jack, just look at the first post. Had no clue where NJIT and BCU were headed.

No one needs further evidence.

When does the official word on New Haven to the NEC supposed to come? Or is that off now and they'll consider, Howard?

RE: MEAC's Next Move To Expand
The only benefit to a WAC-MEAC collaboration would be fielding enough football teams to keep the MEAC's status as a FCS conference intact. Utah and Texas are a long way to go for the remaining MEAC football programs, and Dixie State and Tarleton State will not count as Division I programs initially.

And that supposes that SC State drops or finds another conference that will take them, without replacement, since South Carolina State, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Howard, Morgan and Delaware State make six.

8 members—6 play football. The next school to leave kills the conference.

Or, correct me if I’m wrong but I think they are already in jeopardy because they are down to 5 baseball schools (no teams at Howard, Morgan St, or SC St)

Doesn’t matter. They will get waivers. I don’t think any of the baseball leadership will look to kill a HBCUs auto-bid.

That doesn't place them in jeopardy. For a Division 1 multi-sport conference it's at least 7 basketball schools and EITHER six schools with two other men's team sports OR six schools with football (plus seven with women's basketball and six with two women's team sports and 6/6 sports overall including individual sports).

Losing the sixth baseball team loses the NCAA autobid, but it's not a threat to their multi-sport conference status. And if you qualify as a multi-sports conference, you can sponsor sports that fall short of six, so the MEAC can still sponsor baseball.

It does put them on the cusp. Unless they can talk Virginia State into transitioning to D1, one more football school leaves and they are on a two year countdown to the end of their grace period to fix it.

With all of the upheaval, it's possible another conference may quit sponsoring baseball as well, so there may be an opportunity to add affiliate members. NYIT took their baseball program out of Division I after the Great West collapsed, so there is no low hanging fruit east of the Mississippi.

David loves to do several posts with a long list of links pointing to his "prediction" to pound his chest when he is "right"; will he come here and admit when he is wrong?

New Haven is in the NEC footprint. Delaware State is not. Delaware State is stuck.

South Carolina State to the Big South is the safe bet.

Not sure if anybody wants Norfolk State.

NC Central to Big South.

Howard
Norfolk State
Morgan State
UMES
Coppin State
Delaware State

Those 6 have to rebuild even if it is D2 none HBCUs to survive.

No, he will talk about New Haven and ramble off more “predictions” as he did above.

So DSU, in a state whose every bordering state contains an NEC school, is not in the NEC footprint.

Now MEAC could expand with these D1 schools.
NJIT would love to have a conference in their footprint and would ease the ASUN from travel costs.
Robert Morris would loe to have an all sports in the same conference.

Central State Ohio is a work in process, but they are heading in the right direction going up. Wilburforce should merged with them since they both serve to the same demos and are across from the street from each other. CSO mentioned in a news article that their plan was to get to D1 in the future.

Come on David, tell us what happened. Why were your "predictions" wrong.

Still waiting on that link for the Central State plan to get to D1 in the future.

To your point, DSU is closer to Merrimack than it is to South Carolina State by about 180 miles, give or take. They could conceivably bus to everyone in the NEC, something they have never been able to do in the MEAC. That... kinda makes the move feel like a foregone conclusion, honestly.

What does DSU really add to the NEC? Just adding teams to add them.
