Premier Rivalries in the Group of 5?
Use whatever criteria you think are important to name the premier Group of 5 football rivalries. I'm limiting this to rivalries that are still ongoing and not those broken up by realignment that aren't played anymore.
1. War on I-4 (UCF and USF, 11 games). People will disagree with me, but I consider the two schools peers in every respect except recent success, and as with a lot of rivalries in college football it'll only take the right (or wrong) coaching hires for the tide to turn in the series. Not a very old rivalry for sure, but one that's sure to become big IMO.
2. Georgia Southern - Appalachian State (doesn't have a name that's really caught on yet, 35 games). The two programs have a history in the FCS and won at least a share of 15 of the last 16 SoCon championships they were eligible before. A lot of intense games, a lot of upsets. (Georgia Southern has beaten App's only 2 teams to get ranked in the AP poll for example). Has been played every season since 1993 which would make it among the top in the G5 outside the MAC for consecutive games played.
3. Fresno State - San Diego State (Battle for the Oil Can, 59 games) Two top Mountain West programs with plenty of history, though the series has had long stretches were there was no game.
4. Bowling Green and Toledo (Battle of I-75 Trophy, 84 games) Probably one of the longest-running rivalries that has been played every year since 1948.
5. Western Michigan and Central Michigan (Battle for Victory Cannon) Another long-time MAC rivalry. Both teams have had their years though there haven't been a whole lot of big games.

Never heard of Georgia Southern and App State having a rivalry. But, you did forget the Shula Bowl (FAU/FIU).

I didn't if I could include these two or not, since they are G5-P5 clashes, but they actually meet the requirements, so I will list them:
SMU vs TCU: Battle for the Iron Skillet
Navy vs Notre Dame

RE: Premier Rivalries in the Group of 5?
5 WKU-MTSU
4 UCF-USF
3 CMU-WMU
2 Toledo-BG
1 CSU-Wyoming
CSU-Wyoming is the best G5 rivalry, bar none. 1 hour apart. Border war. 111 meetings. Bronze Boot. Each side runs 30-whatever miles to meet at “the border” during rivalry week.
Toledo-BG are 20 miles apart. The series is tied after 84 meetings. Toledo’s rocket at the Glass Bowl points at Doyt Perry Stadium, 24/7/365.
CMU-WMU weekend is so big, Michigan & Michigan St students drive over to visit their friends at the host school in a tradition that dates back decades. 90 meetings.
UCF-USF has everything but the history (11 meetings). It would be #2 if it wasn’t so new.
WKU-MTSU. 100 Miles of Hate. 68 Meetings.

If you're throwing in G5 vs P5 then you have to have UC vs Louisville - Keg of Nails

I would put that one down, as well as East Carolina vs NC State, but the rivalries aren't played on a regular basis anymore.

I haven’t heard of that one either or FAU/FIU, but both make sense from a regional perspective. Most G5/G5 games don’t garner national coverage. The only three I can think of off the top of my head are:
1. Army/Navy
2. BSU/BYU
3. UCF/USF (made visible due to AAC media deal and press coverage, but not on the level of the other two).
Others would be grouped below these three and followed within conference/locales, but not on a national scale comparable to the above.

I thought that Army-Navy wasn't listed in the original post was because really don't because the Service Academy schools are thought of differently. Haven't those teams been off and on independently.

The MAC and MWC have some of the best in-conference G5 rivalries because they’ve been together a long time.
The SBC, C-USA, and AAC schools don’t have quite as long together for the vitriol to fester.

The Ga. Southern vs. App State rivalry doesn't go back decades upon decades (annual since 1993), but it does have a rich history during the time it has existed. Perhaps most memorable was 1999 when App State upset eventual D 1-AA champion and No. 1 Southern, thus tying them for the conference title. App fans tore down both goalposts, threw one of them into Duck Pond, and threw the other through the Ga. Southern team bus. I can't count how many times the conference title has come down to the winner of that game. Also, Ga. Southern was responsible for App's only loss last year... There is plenty of vitriol that has festered.
Additionally, ULM and Louisiana haven't been in the Sun Belt together for 20 years yet, but they have played 54 times. Arkansas State and Louisiana have played 46 times.
