I’m hoping they’re replacing the gofer and the towel handout person. Both are dead end jobs and they need to get on with their lives.

I read somewhere that AA gave up his NBA/pro career pursuit due to health reasons. Anyone know his health limitations (if they are public knowledge)?

I was lobbying for AA during Pastner's era. Tone was a coach on the floor under Calipari so I believe he'd make a great addition. He would bring toughness to any Tiger team.

IIRC, it had to do with his vision. A retinal injury, maybe.

I hear he had his bags packed to come here under Pastner until Josh jumped to GT.

RE: Antonio Anderson interviewing for assistant coach job
I can't say that I know much of anything about AA as a prospective member of the staff, but I suspect that he might be the same as a coach as he was as a basketball player. He played incredible defense, he played incredibly hard and he did some things well but he wasn't great at anything. When you add it all up, he was a very good player and we wouldn't have been a great team without him. As a coach, he has had very good success at the high school level, but hasn't coached great recruits and doesn't bring any with him, and isn't proven as a recruiter. He would be a great motivator but it would be reasonable to assume that he can't match X's and O's enough to be trusted with that position.

What he needs is a chance at a D1 program at any level and to be able to work his way up the ladder. He is also a Memphis Tiger for life. I hope we do hire him, but obviously not to take Miller's position.

Did Rodney Hamilton interview? He's been a D1 Assistant in the past.

Yeah. No way we should hire someone without D1 coaching experience. That'd be dumb.

Oh, wait...

Correct. My trigger point is the team I love making bad decisions. You are very astute.

Thanks - I try my bestest

Are you going on record as saying you think hiring Penny as HC was / is a bad decision?

I said it before he was hired and been very consistent with that opinion. But honestly, I hope I'm wrong. Penny failing would be horrible on many levels, for the program and the city.

If you attended any games (in Memphis) from 2014 through 2018, and then attended games the last two years with Penny coaching, you will recognize that hiring Penny was a good decision.

I realize that if you went to the last two Memphis/Tulsa games in Tulsa, you might have a different perspective.

He probably did, only those games were played outside at Skelly Field

I hope Antonio gets a fair shot. That said, if there is another Cody Toppert type out there, you have to hire him.

But if he doesn't have a 5* player in tow he needs to work his way up to that spot.

If I was going to get a former player to be an assistant coach from that era it would be Preston Laird

I thought Preston had a HC gig.
