Transfer portal
What happens to a player that enters the portal, but can't find a team to transfer to? Does he stay with his original team, or did he lose his scholars the moment he entered the portal?

Depends on the "losing" institution, but in most instances the scholarship is lost when someone enters the portal. We have seen situations where someone removes their name from the portal and is welcomed back by their school.

My understanding is it's up to the school at that point. Once you enter the portal, the school is no longer under any obligation to hold your scholly for you. So you are not banned from returning by the rules, but it's not necessarily your call any more about returning.

IIRC Malick Mbodj is in that position with UC as far as entering the portal and not having a new home yet. I don't think we wanted to lose him, but we've been loading up on WRs so I'm not sure if we have a place for him anymore or if he has any interest now in returning. FWIW his twitter bio still say University of Cincinnati WR. Anyone else with an update on him?

If Scotty loses power on the other end of the portal, then his atoms will just remain scattered in the universe.

Actually, there was an episode of TNG where they recovered him from the portal.

What I'm wondering is if the P5 break off, can they trade or cut players like the pros since they will be paying them once they are no longer NCAA affiliated....and can a player who is cut from that system play for an NCAA program after that?

Would they be able to collect unemployment compensation?

RE: Transfer portal
I think most programs think of it as them putting in their resignation notice so no unemployment benefits. lol.

Seriously, if a kid enters the portal, not sure I’d want him to return if I were a coach. Better to find someone who really wants to be at that school next year to fill the spot.

The portal is notorious for lots of kids entering it and not a lot of spots available for them. It’s not a guarantee that they will find a FBS landing spot.

247 shows no takers for:

Cole Kosco
Trent Cloud
Kyriq McDonald
Anthony Johnson
Malik Mbodj
Tavion Thomas (but we heard he is going JC route with last chance Independence Community College in Kansas)

All were 3* except Kosco.
Real doubt the McDonald gets an offer as I expect everyone fears the seizures.

I thought I read that Trent Cloud had signed with Hampton. I was specifically interested in Malik. It would seem that he received some bad advice.

Robert Prunty is the head coach at Hampton, which I did not realize. Wonder if Mbodj is in the same position of only getting FCS offers.

Mbodj played well down the stretch, but had many dropped passes early in the year.

RE: Transfer portal
i don't quite understand why folks enter the portal. if you're the star of your team, and esp if you're a tourney aspirerer. take for instance rap, now i'm super stoked he's on our team, but the colgate fighting foyles are routinely the toast of the patriot. march is where folks like rap can stand out; i mean it's not completely off the table yet but you know what i mean. maybe he will despite the talent around him. most though maybe get duties at the six like jaevin. maybe it's worth it but you look at folks like that turner kid outat bgsu. he went back. he went back cuz he wants to make a name for himself in march

f'ck the portal. but it is nice to have late season recruiting news

I wonder how long before the Georgia State coach and fans are super disappointed in NSOSEME's offensive skills?

I read today that Mbodj signed with Youngstown State. Good luck to him with a new school & team.

Mbodj showed some flashes of decent last year. And I'm surprised he had no takers. But at this point I'd much prefer to see if there are better, younger options on the roster (and I think there are).
