Stats also are proving that over 99.5% of those infected will recover - and that stat will even improve as the testing sample size increases and that healthy individuals, especially the young, but even the elderly also recover if they do not have underlying conditions particularly diabetes, hypertension, heart conditions or pulmonary compromise - & are not vitamin D deficient (esp affects people of color). And all of this not forgetting the original models were wildly over estimated.

So why not wait, since we are learning more about this virus daily, before announcing a restrictive plan that looking back in Sept may well be a big mistake.

You may want to check the news because the info from WHO about asymptomatic transmission was widely disagreed with by American experts, and then, the WHO reversed themselves. So, yeah, now a ton of folks will think asymptomatic people rarely infect others, which is totally untrue.

Your post does not take into account that Memphis is having huge increases in daily cases, with the highest infection rate ever today, over 13%. We are clearly trending in the wrong direction, and a late summer spike is expected. Our hospitals are having more cases. I really wonder whether we will be able to have fans in the stands at all when our hospitals start getting overwhelmed. And all those nice statistics about 99% survive are fine until you get sick yourself and see how vicious this disease can be with weeks in the hospital and on ventilators and the possibility of longterm disability, and sometimes a rehab of many months, or as I just experienced with my longtime boyfriend, a loved one dies on a ventilator, without you having a chance to even say good-bye. My guy was a huge, huge Tiger fan. This virus can get up close and personal.

Thank you for this. Those that resist the simple act of wearing a facemask or washing their hands every once in a while should, maybe, take note. Of course, there are some that don't care whether their actions or lack of action affect the health of others or not.

Thank you. My longtime boyfriend was Bill (WildBill) Craven, one of the biggest Tiger fans ever. He literally lived and died with Tiger football and basketball fortunes. He never forgave Calipari, and went into a funk for months after we lost the NC. He was a graduate of Holy Rosary, CBHS and attended the U of M. He had been a tailgater for many years. We traveled to the Birmingham Bowl, and he was in San Antonio for the NC game. He was a sometime poster on this board, which he read over many years. He loved Memphis, its music, and its history. He loved people, and was well known where he lived for many years in South Main. He died a few days before his 55th birthday. I miss him very much.
I am so sorry for your loss. Much too young. Praying for your peace. I’m sure his loss is felt by many.

I am sorry for your loss.

I thought the WHO info sounded odd when I heard it. I've been away and haven't kept up with the details, so I'm not surprised to hear that info recanted. But it does speak to a larger point about the experts inconsistencies and changing their guidance - between WHO, CDC, and other talking heads.

While I was away, I didn't track the data. I kept hearing about the spike and bad trends, so I was concerned when I started updating my database today. I was shocked to find that the numbers have NOT gone up like people are saying.

There have been a lot more cases reported for Shelby in the week I've been gone. But there have been a huge amount of negatives reported too. (I'm not sure what has changed with the reporting of the data at the state level, but it is different to be sure. The volumes of both pos and neg have increased dramatically at the county level.)

One thing though. The cumulative positive rate % has actually come DOWN over the past week. This means that our daily average rate is coming in below the 8.3% (using state data) that we had sort of leveled-off with after Memorial Day. (Our county data actually shows a 6.9% cumulative rate, but I've noticed that data lags.)

And I can also tell you that a 13% rate is NOT an all-time high - not even for one day. Up through late April our CUMULATIVE rate was above 13% - meaning we had many days with a rate above that number. I recall early days with 20%+ rates, and a day in mid April of 17%.

This is the data. If we can't trust the CDC and WHO for consistent guidance, and the media is all over the place, we would all be better served to study the actual data and not spread misinformation.

Houston has suspended all voluntary workouts after six symptomatic student-athletes tested positive for COVID-19. The announcement came Friday afternoon, less than two weeks after the university allowed athletes to return to campus on June 1. According to a release from the school, impacted students have been placed in isolation and contact-tracing procedures have been initiated.

The decision also comes amid a second wave in Texas with Houston emerging as a COVID-19 hotspot since Memorial Day. The NCAA allowed a moratorium on voluntary offseason workouts to expire on May 31, paving the way for athletes to return to campus beginning June 1. While multiple programs across the country have had athletes test positive for COVID-19, this marks the first time a FBS school has suspended workouts because of it.

However, according to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Houston only conducted tests on athletes as they returned to campus if they showed symptoms.

They represent around 1.5% of their athletes in all sports.

There were three major points to that short article:

1. Houston suspended all voluntary workouts after 6 tested positive.
2. They are the first college to suspend voluntary workouts.
3. Houston didn't test all the athletes--only the sick ones.

Maybe they suspect there are more positives....?

However, according to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Houston only conducted tests on athletes as they returned to campus if they showed symptoms.

Of note: Houston did not conduct COVID-19 tests as athletes returned to campus last week. Plans are to only test if a player shows symptoms. https://t.co/cdvMYPWjTS

We are afforded the constitutional right to do so, for one.

Constitution has very little to offer on college athletics, not to mention state-sponsored events like UofM athletics.

To be fair, didn't you argue AGAINST constitutional assembly a few weeks ago, when the argument was applied to protests at state capitols and church?

I never said anyone should be arrested. Nor was anyone arrested for what you speak of.

No one was talking about arrests. The topic was social distancing and the impact on capacities for large gatherings.

The media applied a double-standard - and many of you fell right along with their narrative. When protests were gathered about reopening states and when churches began reassembling, much of the narrative was about the selfish grandma-killers who were assembling. With the larger protests over the past few weeks, the media narrative has been silent about this.

The oddest thing is that my post you replied to above has been removed. None of the other posts about this topic have been removed - including the ones I was actually replying to. And I didn't really say anything too political or controversial. I've noticed this about a couple other posts of mine lately. Seems I have a stalker.

Mods, if you have an explanation or a suggestion for me, please PM me.
