RE: Moderator nomination thread
There are some things that are clearly “political” but other things at the margins that will be argued as to whether or not they qualify as political, particularly with topics like Covid, which has impacted sports. That’s where quite a bit of this originated.

The bigger issue is the escalation and attacks that happen once a few people view it as political and start mud slinging.

We're all adults, JMURocks. We're almost all (assumed to be) college educated. I generally reject the notion of 'oh well it's hard to enforce no politics because of grey area.' We know what's political, and what's sports. We know when people are taking shots just to take shots.

Do you hear yourself talk? An objective third party came and looked at the message board history and suggested you might be the problem. Maybe sit this one out for a while.

RE: Moderator nomination thread
While I agree politics are a hot button (not just here, but everywhere), the problems we have had on this board extend far past politics. We can't even talk about JMU sports among JMU fans without name calling sometimes. If we can't do it on the topics that bring us here, there is absolutely no way we can do it on much more controversial topics.
We shouldn't have to rely on a moderator to keep the peace, but unfortunately we do at times. The truth is we can ALL do better (myself included).

What JMad03 said. Interactions on this board have been over the top for years. Based on what I observe across numerous channels, a lot of people could use a lesson in good old fashion manners. The rest takes care of itself from there.

Are you seriously coming in here cocked for a fight? How about you try being constructive and speak to the issue instead of seeking out a personal attack.

Centdukesfan, would you say that you and I agree that discussing politics has a source of strife on these boards?

ETA: Centdukesfan, would you say that you and I agree that virtually no good comes of discussing politics on sports threads?

RE: Moderator nomination thread
:) happy moderator hunting :) btw, I am happy to either be fully replaced or have help.

I am sorry that some of you felt that I wasn't strong enough on some post etc. You can always report the post. It is virtually impossible to view every single post or thread continually with work, family, etc.

Hopefully the board will find the right moderator that fits it's personality better.

Too much moderation people will leave and will not engage in discussion. Too little the same can happen. Opposing views should be welcomed, even if they sometimes come off arrogant.

Anyway, good luck everyone. May you elect the right moderator.

I dont want to fight anyone, I am just laughing at the irony here.

Yes there is a minor problem with politics, but the solution is self moderation or personal blocking, not calling for a new moderator. This is very cyclical, it happens almost every off season when there is nothing else to talk about. I am not really worried about it.

Not my intention, apologies if it came off that way. Trying to actively engage. If I need to be told I'm persona non grata, feel free to let me know. I'll just sit this thread out.

While we seem to agree that there is a problem with politics, I guess we disagree on the solution. Which is perfectly fine!

In my opinion, the need for moderation or personal blocking is heavily minimized / eliminated if the posting proletariat already knows the content itself is explicitly against the board rules.

This was never a job that should've been one person's responsibility. While I may not agree with your points Hburg, I still recognize you held the fort down for almost a DECADE and I don't believe any person could have done a better job by themselves.

On that note, I think having at least 3 total mods at this point is about the right number for the size and activity of this community. Just throwing that out there for gt and fellow posters to consider.

Would also like to append JMURocks and JMad03 to my nominations if possible.

Probably another thing we could all do better at to make it easier for you, personally I don't think I've ever reported a post.

Also I don't think there's anyone that wants you fully replaced as a moderator, just some who would like one or two added to make things easier to keep up with. I'd agree with 08 that three seems about right for this board.
