Didn’t we have 10-20’s thousands at a time out arm in arm and without masks? Why would a football stadium bother anyone?

Asking for a friend. Thx

correct, and the number of protestors and looters was in the millions when you look at the aggregate numbers nationwide. the Wuhan flu was cancelled and de-funded.

I renewed and kept my donation. I figure JMU Athletics is going to be hurting big time, so I'll do what I can to bridge the gap until this virus is gone.

I donated some yesterday just to be sure I don’t forget to. Not my typical amount, but I figure I can add more before August/September. Interested in hearing more details about single game tickets, but it seems like that won’t be answered for another month at least according to Joey D.

What kind of horse feces is this? A large swath of posters get to call OT political stuff out and say how unreadable the boards are, but if I point out the lack of consistency, I'm "taking the bait?" GTFO.

It was a joke. Sorry for trying to lighten the situation but apparently this **** is in your head. How about you point out where I’ve gotten in the middle of your petty disputes before? Give it a rest. Trust me, your BS isn’t that important to me. Please ignore my posts from now on, because I certainly will ignore yours.

The real hallmark of a good joke - having to explain that it was a joke.

The real hallmark of proving that something isn't that important to you - going out of your way to respond to it.

It's the same reason an establishment can kick you out for saying something offensive and not be in trouble for doing so.

With respect to this message board, it's the moderators call, not the government. Therefore they can delete ANYTHING they want. Or they choose not to delete anything they want. Either way, they are not violating any "freedom of speech".

Come on, folks. You are smarter than this.

I knew that someone would use that as an excuse to censor. Mark Zuckerberg has been leaning on that argument. "Hey, Fascistbook is a private company. We are allowed to censor anything we want."

President Trump recently signed an executive order to address that, which has to do with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (GMAFB). I am very aware of this because I am an internet publisher and Big Tech has wrecked businesses like mine via its censorship, leaning on Section 230.

Our Constitution indeed says that the government will make no laws "abridging the freedom of speech." Yet, they have. Section 230 permits Facebook, Twitter, and Google to censor. Therefore, the government is complicit and in violation of the First Amendment.

Face it, these are very trying times. COVID, cities burnt and looted, chaos everywhere. These things affect us and they affect JMU sports, which we are all here to discuss.

The title of this thread is "Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?" I guess respondents can reply with simply a yes or no, without elaborating so as to not piss you off. My advice is when you see that bolded title on your Dukes Domain page, indicating that there are new posts there, use your mousey thing to steer your cursor away from it, thereby reducing the stress in your life and making you a much happier person.

Man, so much for that JMU academic reputation.

Media companies have been biased and allowed to sensor since forever. It's part of the freedom of their first amendment. The NY Times can blast Trump on every page of their paper ignoring any other news they freaking want and he nor any other govt official can do anything else about it. Welcome to America Mr. President. Of course they can be sued for libel. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram enjoy the same privileges. You can go out on the street and scream racist remarks until you're blue in the face or someone punches you in the mouth. These platforms don't have to put up with it and they can fact check what you're saying and moderate your usage. If they wanted to they can do it with a liberal bias. All that's protected under the first amendment, the government is in no way "complicit" with a violation because of it.
That's just stupid. And section 230 has nothing to do with it. All that does is protect the platform from being sued for libel for what it's members say. Now when the POTUS gets censored by Twitter, gets angry and issues an Executive Order in direct retaliation to Twitter then that is in fact a violation of the First Amendment as the courts will shortly tell him because he's using the power of government to limit it. Which as JMad03 points out is the only entity that can actually infringe upon your right to free speech. One more time for the people in the back - The First Amendment only protects your speech from government censorship. End of story. Your boss can fire you for what you post on Facebook. Facebook can delete your posts or kick you off their platform for pretty much any reason they want.

Wrong, mturd. If that were the case, then Facebook wouldn't be facing several lawsuits from those they have censored. I really don't want to discuss politics, as everyone here, including me, is sick of it, but again, I am forced to defend myself. By the way, I belong to a network of publishers being represented by legal counsel on this, and I can't elaborate. Once Section 230 has been dealt with, you will see the lawsuits multiply. Facebook knows this, even if an ODU grad doesn't. Given Facebook's virtual ownership of "the public square," they are also facing antitrust and unfair business practice challenges.

Well, I may need to get Razor Ramon in here to explain it on a level you can understand.

None of those lawsuits have to do with or invoke the first amendment. They very well may have to do with Section 230, or any number of laws and regulations having to do with discrimination or commerce protections. But not the 1st amendment.

By the way. I agree this board is going to ****. We have a threads on the ODU board for both the pandemic and racial injustice that have had differing opinions voiced and have remained constructive and civil. I mean we're smarter and generally better people than you but also the board is better moderated. Just saying.

Oh, okay, so we'll all just independently post OT political trash, as long as it doesn't interact with other posts. Got it!

This pretty much sums it up for me.

And just speaking for myself, it takes a lot to get me to chime in (on this board) on something other that is not JMU sports centric. When I do, it's because something has triggered the line in my signature. Here endeth the lesson.

RE: Are you buying 2020 football season tickets?
I'm not responding to anyone and feeding no trolls, I just have some things I want to say that are not directed towards any specific posters.

Donald Trump is a disgrace.

Anyone who ridicules "defund the police" as meaning that all police are eliminated is a stupid person.

Referring to "Chinese Flu" is politically charged. Referring to "Wuhan Flu" is politically charged.

The First Amendment protects one's right to free speech. One may say what they want in one's own videos, on his one's own blog, on a soapbox on the corner. The right to free speech does not extend to forcing any company (social media or otherwise) to amplify what one has to say.

See, this is fun! We all have opinions, and these opinions are perfectly fine to put in this thread as long as we're not quarreling. Neat!
