Exciting stuff! I wonder what the Justin Anderson connection is to the staff. Loved watching him during his time at UVA and now in the NBA.

6’10” and 200#??? 04-jawdrop And they list him as a PF?

That’s beyond skinny, and borders on malnutrition.

JA likely knows Coach Baker,, who also played for UVA (and under Tony Bennett for one year).

Never had the "skinny gene", so it's hard to imagine. I'd be curious to know the average income of 6'10" 23 year olds vs 5'10" 23 year olds. At that height, if you can walk and chew gum at the same time, you should have a decent overseas hoops career for solid money.

Nothing I could do about my point guard minus height. But if I were 6"10", I'd be eating right and going to the gym every day to maximize my chances.

Just want to add that's about the exact size weight combination as Kevin Durant was in college.

I have a nephew growing like a beanpole and he eats very well with good nutrition (mom is a nurse). His body is also lean. Sometimes during a growth spurt I think all the energy goes into growing the body vertically. Maybe eating even more than you want would help, but things are different physiologically when the growth spurts hit than they are afterward.

That isn't that skinny. Ralph Sampson played college and pro ball at 7'4/228 and played a 4/5 hybrid in Houston where he became an All-Pro and Hall of Famer.

Yeah when I was growing up I always ate a ton(didn't eat right but I did eat a lot, two or three Big Macs wasn't really an abnormal meal for me) but stayed skinny as hell, hit a big growth spurt and went from 4'10" to 5'8" from 7th to 8th grade but always stayed really skinny. When I was done growing I was 6'1" and about 120-130 even though I ate a ton, when I started hitting the gym a lot harder I still couldn't really get much above 140. My metabolism finally slowed down a bunch around like 25 and now at 29 I really need to get back to going to the gym for the opposite reason 03-lmfao Now my nephew has been the same way, he's 19 and the inability to put on weight bothers him a lot more than it ever bothered me.

i never understood the "omg, this guy is only 200 lbs !" when speaking about recruits.

we're talking about a HS junior here who is maybe 17 years old (since he hasn't played a senior season yet, that's probably his junior measurements). many kids at that age are still years from filling out.

This isn't an "omg he's 200s#" comment...it's his BMI...height to weight ratio that's in question. Anybody got some video, or even still pics on this possible recruit?

Ahhh, no. KD was either 6'9" or 6'10" (depending on what site you were reading, and weighed 220# in college. That extra 20# goes a long way on a frame, and in this case represents a 10% difference in body mass. Today, in the pros, KD is listed as 6'10" 240#.

Again, if the kid has game and is 6'10" by all means let's hope he comes to JMU...but that doesn't change the fact he's reeeeaaallll skinny. Like olddawg, I wish I had that gene. 04-cheers

RE: 2021 MBB Recruiting
If I had to choose (because unless you get a kid who has a late growth spurt you aren’t getting a ready made 6’10” player often at the mid major level) I’d choose thin but no history of injuries to either weight issues on the other side or good build and prone to injury. A lot of the JMU bigs over the years have had one of the later two issues.

Bigs often have injury issues. Growing quickly and tall puts a strain on the human body. Hence the expression “growing pains”.

Sorry, but your point is still, ummm, pointless.

They are kids. Who often grow vertically fast and in spurts, leaving little time to fill out that sudden extended frame.

Maybe you don’t know who this guy is :

He’s Chet Holmgren. Looks pretty thin huh? He’s 7’0”, 190 pounds.

He’s also the #1 recruit in the class of 2021, wanted by duke, Kentucky, Kansas, North Carolina and every other top p5 program in the country.

RE: 2021 MBB Recruiting
Folks generally like to gripe/ if we recruit a bunch of 6’3” to 6’7” guys they gripe about that too and then when the 6’10” guys aren’t built like Zion they are too thin. It will be rare for a 6’10” kid to land at a mid major who was ready to dominate from day one. Those guys are in short supply. I guess Nathan Knight had the body type that he has now when he walked on campus but that is rare for a mid major. I’m sure Coach B will recruit and get some more ready made bigs over time. Maybe having Mensah on the roster and being from Ghana helps with this kid who is from Senegal. How tall is Tyler Nickel the local top 100 2022 kid?
