All this changes when Monty pulls a Frank Haith and wins the conference after being picked to finish near the bottom. Except Monty will also end racism, cure COVID, and be elected president.

Fake news! I refuse to believe there's 7 coaches in this league worse than Dana.

RE: Ranking the AAC coaches
ECU ranks dead last in the AAC by every preseason publication I've seen and we've certainly earned that dubious distinction over the past few years now that UCONN is gone. That said, with the way the offense dramatically improved over the course of the year w/ Ahlers (along w/t emergence of WRs CJ, Snead & Proehl) in conjunction w/ Mike Houston's track record as a hard-nosed defensive minded coach, you have to feel pretty good about this season as a Pirate fan. Add to that the plethora of quality transfers that can be plugged in and used right away and it's almost enough for this beat down ECU fan to have some optimism.
NBC Sports: Oklahoma’s Ryan Jones is fifth Power Five transfer added by East Carolina in two months
https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-oklahoma/
"When it comes to Power Five transfers this cycle, not many Group of Five schools can keep up with East Carolina football."
Most of the transfers we acquired had some success at quality programs and even the App St transfer (only G5) was an expected starter for them this year.

SMU has at least four with more likely. UT, ARK, STANFORD, OU so far that I can recall.

I think the things in the second sentence have a better chance of happening then then one in the first sentence.

I would take those 7 coaches over him every day of the week. Dana is Tuberville 2.0.

I disagree with both you two... Dana is getting house in order right now and when he's done putting pieces in place Dana is going to anchor Houston back where it belongs, dominating the AAC and back at the big stage, the NY6 Bowl.

We were paying Applewhite half as much to win twice as many games. I'm for giving the man time to turn it around but so far he hasn't been a smart investment.

Montgomery's probably the only one I could confidently rank below him. The three new hires are question marks. Dykes and Carey should've easily been ranked above him.

I respect Willie Fritz, but to put him over Heupel who is 22-4 and was in a NY6 is just disrespectful

You're making it sound as if Dana is been at Houston for a few years and nothing has improved... I'll say IF poor results continue this coming season Dana will get the "or else" discussion... Dana, has three years to turn Houston's football program around and he will.

Heupel is probably above Fritz. Fritz is halfway through his rebuild.
Dykes is probably above Fritz, too.
Dana inherited a 5-series BMW and just wrapped it around a tree. This guy already has a penchant for losing to teams he has no business losing to (WSU and Tulane were both blown games of the highest order), and also posted an incredible 0-6 record against AAC teams that finished above .500.
The cupboard was not THAT bare at UH.

Can I respectfully disagree?
Fritz has done nothing but take losers and turn them into winners at every level. I realize the Green Wave may have somewhat plateau'd, but if it doesn't work out in New Orleans it's not because Fritz can't coach.
Heupel, on the other hand, is just the opposite and has been handed the keys to a Porsche and hasn't proven he can keep it there. The jury's still out on him - I'm not convinced he's not the UCF Larry Coker. We need more than two years to show this.
Based on career record Fritz, to me, is second only to Niumatalolo, maybe in front. You can disagree, but Tulane needs to give him the benefit of the doubt because he's a damn fine coach.

RE: Ranking the AAC coaches
I dunno, Heup should get some more credit. Replacing a special talent like Milton is hard. A lot of coaches would have rolled with the ND transfer till Mack was back. Heup saw the talent in his freshman Gabriel and stuck with it. Freshman QBs are going to give you some inconsistent games.

Classic. I really don’t even believe you are a Tulane fan. Either that or you have some weird Stockholm syndrome/inferiority complex.
