Agreed. We should try to play a game in Charlotte every year. Whether it be Charlotte or Davidson. Good for recruiting purposes and both are programs we should compare ourselves to.
I mean, not just them either. UNCG, to name one. So many ops for good games within a 4 hour drive

For sure, playing the best mid major teams in the state on a consistent basis should be a priority.

Yup. and even if you expanded out that 4 hour drive to SC, and VA, plenty of ops there too. CCU, ODU, Richmond just to name a few

And absolutely ridiculous that it took a pandemic and economic downturn to get teams to do it. This kind of scheduling should have been the standard operating procedure for decades.
It's like schools hate saving money or something.

Yep, a lot of good teams in the region. It’s fun to play outside of region on occasion as well.

Has anyone considered the possibility that traveling and experiencing places further away that players have never had the opportunity do otherwise just might be a good recruiting tool?

You are right about that 33. I remember being with the team on a couple of trips to NY City. It was something to see some of the players (esp. freshmen) who had been, the same time last year, high scool seniors who had never been away from their hometowns. You talk about wide eyed! Or how about students that had never seen snow until a trip up north? Long story short - travel can be an education in itself.

don't disagree with either of you, but for a school on a tight budget this needs to be the exception, not the norm.

As two time Hall of Famer Ric Flair would say. If you want to be the man, you got to beat the man. And not only goes on the court, but also on the recruiting trail. And if anyone doesn't think that's a big advantage, they are sadly mistaken.

Financially we need the right person in charge of fund raising. As much as I despised Capaccio as an AD, he was an outstanding fundraiser when he was head of the Seahawk Club.

I think the point of many people's comments though is there are plenty of " The Mans" in our own back yard. I agree with you, could certainly get better in the fundraising department, but winning should help that as it always seems too.

Conference play should be regional as much as possible for many reasons. Fans, cost savings, rivalries, time spent by student athletes. There are all kinds of reasons. Then, you can add those travel games for OOC and vary them from year to year.

UNCG plays in the Greensboro Coliseum. There are many restaurants and bars in the area that can host UNCW alumni events before and/or after the game. The Coliseum is a great place to watch a game. It has hosted many ACC Tournaments, NCAA Tournament games, and the 1974 NCAA Championship.

The Coliseum has space inside for groups to meet also. A few years ago a pre-game event was held in one.

Let's add A&T to the list as well. We're recruiting the Triangle hard and you know that you're going in against a well coached team.

A&T and NC Central are both good programs. However, most of the MEAC teams are looking to get paid during their non-conference schedule. Which we don't have the money to pay teams that can beat us. Let EZU continue to do that.

When UNCW isn't messed up, none of those said programs are a problem at home. ECU on the road can be an issue if we choke like last time. You're definitely the better program, but if it's close and you blow it, you can certainly lose. The Hawks should not lose to Central or A and T on the road if UNCW is right. And, they will be right for as long as this coach is there and that is especially true after a year.

RE: 2020-2021 Men's basketball season
It sucks that it happened in 2006. Some guy went off from 3 that day and the Hawks were almost double digit road favorites. Hawks had final RPI of like 30 and was a 9 seed NCAA team. If they won that game the RPI would have been top 20 with likely a 6-7 seed. Rivalry games are killers. They were a little better last year and will be hard to beat on the road but back then they sucked.
