The other side of this story:

https://weartv.com/news/local/desantis-f...nt-charges

https://tallahasseereports.com/2020/05/2...-all-fake/

He said (insubordination) she said (wrongful termination). That stuff about the criminal charges is just dirt that isn't material to the issue in question as is the spin about her being a scientist (and from what i can see she is being discussed as a Data Scientist and not anything in the biological/chemical/epidemiological fields).

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
i went to home depot today to get a lawn mower. i justify wearing the mask for the sake of the old. and brother, you can't sd in there. this was colerain. they weren't limiting people like they were in western hills last weekend. i saw the line i didn't have time for. homeboy said sh!t was like 50 deep so i found a hardware store on like bridgetown or cheviot. that place was a dump. they didn't have to limit the number of their folks for a reason. i didn't find what i wanted but i bought it anyway to support the little guy

anyway

i bought a rear wheel toro job brought it to the car took out a car seat threw it in the hatch and wedged it up against the forward facing car seat. i didn't think it was gonna fit. i got in the car and saw that i had a message from mr fix it my neighborhood handiman saying he's just tuned up a couple mowers and'll let 'em go sixty apiece. i had asked him hours prior but he makes a living doing neighborly odd jobs, like getting a raccoon outta your walls. he gets pulled this way he gets pulled that way. you wouldn't be surprised he's even a pimp. anyway. i need to get his life's story before he dies

so i'm in my car and i see this message on my phone and obviously frugal minster area wife would take the rebuilt mower instead of the four hundred dollar toro. i'm inclined to agree. i knew she'd want me to just go ahead load it onto a cart and return it so you don't have to unnecessarily drive back. you wanna know what i did? i didn't do that. i went home with the brand new mower gave her the business waited a couple hours for i forget what then back to home depot to return the mower where they said i had to go there first before i could come back here so i went there and they said but here isn't there. here is over there. by the patio furniture. but i'm not going to make you walk beyond here. i'm going to help you. can you please move your cart so she can pass? mr fix it delivered the hundred fifty eight horse power land mower like i was ordering something during the great pandemic

what if i had done something like this in april?

now i gotta put the car seat back in which sucks balls and wife said we didn't need a rear wheel job since she's landscaped our yard so that hill mowage is minimal

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
I know there are a lot of numbers going around and we had some discussion here earlier about the fatality rates, so I thought I'd post what appears to be the latest numbers from the CDC's own site that are getting almost no attention for some reason that I'll leave you to interpret:

If you have COVID 19 and show symptoms and are under age 50 their best estimate is .05% fatality rate.
If you have COVID 19 and show symptoms and are age 50-64 their best estimate is .2% fatality rate.
If you have COVID 19 and show symptoms and are over age 64 their best estimate is 1.3% fatality rate.

So if you have COVID 19 and show symptoms, the CDC's best estimate is a .4% fatality rate (i.e. 4 out of 1 thousand).

The CDC also estimates that 35% of those who have COVID 19 don't show symptoms (i.e. asymptomatic). So their best estimate is that if you get COVID 19 (regardless of age or symptoms) your fatality rate from it is .26%

(Two caveats: data appears to be only through April 28 and there's probably some tiny rounding errors given how small the percentages are)

Let me know if I've missed something and I'll gladly correct it.

In other words....a bad flu season this year.

All politicians from Trump to DeWine to Beshear to Whitmer to Pence to Northam royally screwed up. They reached across the aisle and led the country to near ruin.

Took anti body test. Bummer it was negative. Wanted to have it to donate plasma to help others.

Testing is readily available. Blood draw on Thursday, results on Friday. Just have your concierge doc order the test.

It's insane that people still make a bad flu season comparison. More than 100,000 deaths in 2 months while taking drastic distancing measures isn't remotely in the ball park of any flu season in modern history. We know this thing spreads like crazy. A .26 death rate could still be 600000+ dead and the death right climbs significantly if say it spreads too quickly and hospital capacity is stretched thin.

Lots of “ifs” there. I guess we should keep expecting worst case scenarios and keep shutdown longer just in case.

The current pandemic is still far less deadly than the flu outbreak of 1957. That was finally abated by a vaccination.

Some of us still remember 1957 - the year of deadly flu, Sputnik, and Kaputnik.

We know enough about how it spreads, who it effects and what kind of activities/ gatherings are most likely to exasperate the problem that we can open up (and are opening up) while still taking reasonable precautions and being vigilant to try to prevent the worst.

It's not a choice between total shutdown and free for all. We also have to live in the real world where 100,000 deaths in two months despite the precautions taken(too late to do better) is where we are. This thing could get out of control if we aren't smart. Thankfully the majority of the country seems to be taking this seriously even as things become more normal and open up.

God, I hope you are right but I am not sure about that. Everywhere I go, I see people not taking this seriously.

It’s like a pressure keg about to burst. Likely to see another spike and another massive shutdown.

Just the other day, a county in California that opened up had to close back down because they got a spike of 4 cases of coronavirus. Scary.

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
Agree or disagree, folks are tired of staying in their homes or staying in isolation. That goes against human nature - we were created to be social in groups. Probably a miracle the country was able to take the steps it did while it could. Here is just one example of a gathering at a race track in a North Carolina County that occurred over Memorial Weekend...

[Image: 27RACEWAY-articleLarge-v2.jpg?quality=75...le=upscale]

The County Sheriff refused to enforce the Governor's mass gathering restrictions on the basis of the First Amendment. You're going to see this more and more moving forward so we'll find out soon enough if the COVID numbers do in fact swell back up.

I live in a border County along the NC/VA line with Greensboro and Winston-Salem being the closest major cities. That picture was from a race track about two counties over to the east from me - closer to Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham area.
