OT: Summit decides to not add Augustana
Augie is a 2000 student private college in Sioux Falls, SD. They won the 2016 MBB National championship.

They expressed an interest in going D1 and many thought they'd end up in the Summit with the other Dakota schools. Today the Summit announced they will not add anyone.

https://www.argusleader.com/story/sports...269925002/

Any interest from this lot to add a team from South Dakota or with UMKC gone, does the WAC focus expansion closer to it's current members?

That would not seem like a good idea but I guess if the WAC is deadset on adding football in some fashion like some on here seem to think will happen then maybe they add them?

I think we need to think more regionally than that. Even if it means no WAC football. Just my opinion, but what the WAC needs to focus on is creating/establishing regional rivalries. South Dakota just doesn’t fit the bill in my opinion.

GO AGGIES!!!

Not many flights from WAC cities to Sioux Falls.

The next WAC member will be West Texas A&M.

Augie used to be an athletic power among the colleges in the upper plains. However, they fell behind as the state institutions grew and were able to emphasize athletics. It looks like they are trying to revive their programs, but I suspect that will be hard to do.

Agreed.

In the footprint. Bigger institution. History with Tarleton and NMSU.

Oh, good grief.. Not even in the same stratosphere with WTAMU as an athletic program.. The only other school that *might* make more sense for the WAC is ACU. Getting them both would be a real shot in the arm.

Did you really mean ACU, or did you mean Angelo State?

Colorado Mesa>Augustana

That could set up rivalries again with Northern Colorado. Big Sky schools would jump on board scheduling them over Augustana.

Can you please list any Colorado Mesa to D1 sources? There’s actual articles about Augustana wanting to be D1, so show us the ones for Mesa

If the NCAA finally approves direct D3 to D1 callups, the bigger fish in Texas might be Trinity in San Antonio. And UT-Dallas, of course, though I'd imagine the Southland would take them if they did move up.

Didn't Colorado Mesa already say "No" a little over a year ago, about the same time as Metro State?

Yes.

Allegedly. There was some controversy on that subject..

Added an edit on my post. I should’ve elaborated that I was primarily referring to WAC interest in Colorado Mesa— which thus leads to D1. Not the fact they weren’t pursuing D1 (though once again they’d still need an invite regardless). Sorry for the confusion.

Colorado Mesa not interested in leap to Div. I

There might have been controversy but that article is from December 2018. David has also been told many times by many posters for at least three years that Colorado Mesa is not interested in D1 and yet he still says they are even 1.5 years after CMU did a study and publicly announced no to D1.

Northern Kentucky said no before too, therefore Mesa is still a candidate. LOL, gotta love it!

So WAC Headquarters is in Denver, Englewood to be exact, and there is not a single Colorado team in the WAC.
Oddity/Anomaly, whatever you wanna call it, it's just weird.
Who could possibly change that? NOCO? MSU-Denver? CSU-Pueblo? CO-Mesa? Maybe UC-CO Springs could take a quantum leap? All I know is somethings gotta give. Would certainly help Hurd & Co. as he goes out to other schools and tries to sell the WAC vision.

They are better off moving WAC headquarters to Texas or Arizona.
