RE: 2020 COVID capacities
Here's our first announcement. Iowa St plans to drop its capacity from 61,500 to 30,000. Cyclones had 45,000 STH'ers last year, but only 22,000 -- less than half -- have renewed.

https://cyclones.com/news/2020/5/26/athl...-fans.aspx

Quote:Attendance at Jack Trice Stadium would be limited to approximately 50% capacity in order to meet the current guidelines established by state and local officials. Those guidelines may be adjusted as time passes. Right now, we are planning as though the capacity of our stadium would be limited to 30,000 spectators.

As of today, approximately 22,000 season tickets have been renewed for this fall. That leaves us approximately 8,000 seats to be filled. Because we need to make plans to accommodate those fans who will be allowed into the stadium (based on state and local guidelines), we have decided to implement the following:

Any fan who does not renew their season tickets and make their Cyclone Club donation by June 12, 2020 will not be provided the opportunity to attend any games this fall unless it is later decided that we can safely exceed the 50% capacity restriction.
The only fans who will have the opportunity to be in the stadium this fall are those who renew their season tickets and their required Cyclone Club donation (if applicable) by June 12, 2020. If you have not done so already, please contact our staff ASAP to complete those processes. +Renew Now
Because we expect to reach the 50% capacity limitation through season ticket sales, we do not anticipate selling single-game tickets unless the capacity limits are raised.
Any season ticket holder who does not renew their season tickets for 2020 will continue to have first rights on their same seats for 2021. We believe it is very important to honor prior loyalty, as there may be some fans who are not comfortable attending games this fall or are experiencing financial challenges.
Any season ticket holder who renews their season tickets but later decides they are not comfortable attending games this fall because of COVID-19 may request a refund of their season ticket purchase or defer the purchase of their season ticket to the 2021 season.

RE: 2020 COVID capacities
Half capacity really makes no actual medical sense unless you are separating groups. A family group can be together, but you don't want them right next to a different family group.

If a fall season's held, no reason why they can't play half capacity.

My guess is they won't draw a distinction and just sell seats six feet apart. That's close enough for a group to be together even if they aren't shoulder to shoulder. If they're smart, they'll still discourage breaking the six-foot barrier even if they're in the same group, just to avoid modelling improper actions to people elsewhere in the stadium who see a bunch of people in arm's length and wonder why they can't do that too. To say nothing of how it'd look on TV.

Request that fans wear masks (and sell them in school colors to make a buck), have lots of sanitization stations, allow food and drink brought in to minimize handling by muliple people. Groups sit together and don't be nazi like trying to enforce it.

If we choose to attend a game, that should be our choice as American adults. Going to Walmart or Lowes is an adult decision to take the risk. I am tired of the nanny state telling us what is best for us when they do not even know themselves. Pretty sure COVID football rules might be what sparks the revolution. lol

I wonder how they will handle suites? Since they are leased by an individual or company, do they get the final say? Wearing masks is not too much to ask of the fans. I will gladly wear one in order to attend a game. It isn't that big of a deal.

I expect most schools to simply limit it to season ticket holders (Maybe with a cap), some students, and players families

Yeah, on the same argument it should be our choice as American adults to drink drive.

The masks primarily protect others from you if you are infectious ... as anyone could be without knowing it, given that its infectious while asymptomatic and presymptomatic. Taking a risk to kill yourself is one thing, taking a risk to kill someone at random, whether a stranger or friend or family ... that is something else.

That’s what I plan to do. Wear masks and carry sanitizer. I don’t mind the extra space at all — this is a great year to get to mammoth stadiums without being packed in like sardines.

I wonder if they’ll cancel suites because 50% sales might be below the breakeven point for operating them.

I would think they would want that suite money more than regular ticket money. The trend in stadiums has been adding more suites, clubs, loges, etc... Its all about money.

RE: 2020 COVID capacities
Well with the newly added seats at TCU our capacity is now about 48,000. That means 24,000 at 50% and we probably have more season ticket holders than that. That also doesn't count students. Should be interesting how they work this.

I was talking to a guy who manages a ticket office this past weekend (don’t worry, we were outside and socially distanced), he said that a lot of the vendors are working on software solutions where you buy a block of tickets together and it blocks out all the tickets around you as not purchasable. Not sure if 50% is the right number to allow that, but it’ll probably be something along those lines.

If you keep a social distance, you are doing the same thing. And these masks most people have don't help much.

Incorrect. Here's a demonstration from the New England Journal of Medicine at how effective even a simple cloth mask is at keeping water droplets from being sprayed:

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2007800

Furthermore, you are not required to attend a football game (or any sporting event). Just like they have a right to say "no shirt, no shoes, no service," they also have a right to say "if you want to attend a game in our stadium, you have to wear a mask." Pretty simple, actually...

There seems to be a great deal of misinformation about the use of masks. If you only consider the wearer, a cloth mask doesn't protect him very well. However, it does protect everyone else... So logically, if everyone wears a mask then everyone will be protected - but if only a few refuse to wear masks, no one is.
