AState and Memphis sign another long term home and home
Will play every year for 8 of the next 9 seasons through 2028. 2024 is currently the off year but I get a suspicion that it was left open in case we opt not to play this season

Scheduling paradigm shift or was this in the works in 2019?

This was my first thought. My second thought was USM is 89 miles down the road from USA.

More of Memphis finally giving up the ghost and realize that we’re a regional opponent an hour down the road. They went through a several year stretch where they refused to schedule. Last football game was in 2013

Those games should be well attended games for both schools.
We have USM this season and next. We play them in every other sport, we need football to become a traditional game as well. It should also be well attended at both places.

I wish the Cajuns could get some long term deals with Tulane and LaTurd on an every other year rotation or so. But something that is regular enough but not annually. Let each game marinate over 2 years. Even years play Tulane while odd years play LaTurd.

Memphis has got a new coach so we don't know if he will be as good as the last two. If he is we will have to step it up. Hopefully Anderson has figured out this is a very important game to astatenation

At least Anderson has gotten out of the habit of losing every OOC game. So there is hope.

It appears he traded trying hard in OOC play in exchange for losing to UL and South Alabama.

Yeah. I am not sure which is worse.

Yeah. I am not sure which is worse.
According to his contract, losing to UL and USA are worse. Only way he gets bonuses for OOC wins is if we beat a ranked team, which has happened twice in our history. (Thanks Troy!)
His contract reward for winning the league is very significant. Roughly the same as making the Playoff.

more to do with P5 home-home deals drying up along with the fact playing ASU home-home is a 'cost friendly' series for Memphis as we can bus the team/band 45 mins to Jonesboro.
essentially past 2023 Memphis has a 2-for-1 with Arkansas, a home-home with Arkansas State, and a re-scheduled game @Georgia State.

You weren't exactly getting a ton of P5 deals during the 7 years we didn't play. If you ignore Ole Miss, which you guys have always been able to get, the number of P5's willing to come to the Liberty Bowl hasn't exactly been many. UCLA was a nice get though.
Hence my point, at some point your administration realized that getting straight home and homes with P5's was proving very difficult, and with getting G5 money games off the table, you had to begin looking at Regional G5 home and homes.
My wild guess is the 2nd 4 year agreement had as much to do with the current state of Athletics as it does with the general ease of the series.
I'd say we'll see you on Labor Day, but I fear it may be a group of people standing outside the stadium hoping to get an eye on what is actually happening inside given the way Shelby County is reopening. Side note, your bus can get to campus in 45 minutes? How fast do those things go?

UCLA, Kansas, and 4 home-home games with Ole Miss...
that's 8 home-home games with P5 teams during our break...it also included a road game at Mizzou that will pay off in 2023 with a home game. (so 9 P5 games including Mizzou)
this virus has strained many budgets so extending an 'easy' series seems like a natural and logical solution.
Memphis has a home-home with Miss State coming up in 21 and 22...they have room in 28 and 29 for another home-home so I hope we jump on that. Since we're coming off a Cotton Bowl I also feel it would be a good time to reach out to Boise and see if they would like to schedule a home-home deal

Boise is a reach with budgets getting slammed. And I don't imagine your school is immune.
