Makes total sense. I like having a golf team too. Its classy. So basically, if something else gets cut, it looks like S&D. Maybe sailing? After that, we get into the good stuff assuming tennis and golf are safe due to private funding and endowments. Id hate to lose baseball. I would think soccer has to be safe with the success we've had and the rising popularity of the sport.

There are only two sports that can be cut. Sailing and cheer can be made a club activity. But we can't cut any other sports because you need 16 sports at the FBS level and that's all we have (neither cheer or sailing count).

20+ years was a bit more than an experiment. Everything I hear was their games were decently attended but it was a travel suck to begin with. I first read about the program in SI back in high school, circa 1995.

Experiment in the sense that people thought if UAH hockey could establish a foothold, it would lead to expansion of the sport into other parts of the South, sort of like how minor-league hockey exploded in the 90s. But nobody followed them. The dream of an SEC/ACC hockey challenge will remain undreamed.

We need to cut any funding to the dynasty dancers. I’m not sure what the funding is for them, but it should be $0. However, the twirler has earned her scholarship. Who doesn’t look forward to her performance?

I would hope the dynasty dancers funding comes from student activities and not athletics. If so, it’s a different pot of money.

We need the President and the entire sports coaches (at ODU) to take salary cuts NOW!

Dude, we get it. You’re upset that wrestling was cut, but give it a rest. Wrestling isn’t coming back, if anything Covid-19 will lead to MORE (wrestling) programs being cut.

If coaches and Selig take a pay cut it’s because athletics needs to make up a large sum of money and that would be a huge concern

The thing is there was a study that recommended cutting a sport. That study didn't start at the beginning of the pandemic and then recommend cutting a sport that fast. When have official government studies ever been that efficient? The admin have given thought about cutting a sport for a while and the pandemic was good cover for cutting it. Hell, there has been talk about cutting sports on this board for a while. Everyone always said wrestling would be the target, for title 9 and other reasons.

At no point did I say that Covid is why ODU cut wrestling. My point, which you missed, is simple: Covid will cause more wrestling programs to be dropped. The thread is about programs being dropped

I never said you did. I also didn't miss your point but was just adding to the conversation. Didn't Cinci reference a study on dropping soccer.
