Correct. All those schools could have been scooped up years ago. Nothing is changing soon, unless the virus forces more regional conferences.

University of Illinois system - $158 million in lost revenue by the end of June
City Colleges of Chicago - $17 million deficit before the pandemic

And people wonder why our stadium renovations were kicked down the line, the state as a whole is floundering

The flip side of that is if you're able to tap a source of capital while things are bottoming out you'll be able to build for a fraction of the normal cost. There is wisdom in investing like Hershey did during the Depression in people and property.

The state of Illinois hasn't had a true budget since 2015, and the problems state-wide started well before that

Golf, tennis, cross country, and track are Individual sports because they award championships to an individual and the team. johnbragg is correct that Chicago State will not meet NCAA requirements by dropping baseball.

Agreed. The short-term risk of anyone leaving the WAC is minimal. The WCC, Big West, Big Sky and Southland all have 10 or more members and are done expanding. The Summit is now stable with UMKC coming in and St. Thomas, Augustana or both on deck. And the WAC has 8 members in the far west and Texas not named Chicago State.

IMHO the time has come for the WAC to cut ties with CSU. This will remove an impediment to future WAC expansion with additional D2 move ups in its footprint, none of which want to travel to Chicago.
