People need to understand we hold absolutely no cards when it comes to scheduling and accept the fact that if we want to play better competition it's going to come at a cost of 2-1's. Otherwise, enjoy all the 1-1's you can get against UConn, Texas State, and Georgia State.

Coming from a fan of a team that gets to play TCU H&H only for its location. I would not mind an 0-1 at a neutral site or a 2-0-1 With the 2 at their place. UCF should not be that desperate yet. Still on ESPiN and if UCF stays successful, that is the most you can do.

I have to say, I'm pretty excited about the new additions (via transfer) to the Pirates roster for the upcoming season. It says a lot about Mike Houston's reputation for building programs to be able to sway these high-caliber players to come to Greenville.

Nigel Knott (CB) - Alabama (Former top 100 recruit)

Chris Willis (DE) - Appalachian State

Chase Hayden (RB) - Arkansas

Avery Jones (OL) - North Carolina

Justin Chase (OL) - NC State

We desperately needed help on the OL. Jones & Chase (especially Jones) have the ability to come in from day 1 and play AAC football.

We lost some depth in the secondary, and filled the gap with a highly-touted kid from Alabama that had bad luck with injuries.

We added talent to the RB room with Chase Hayden, who had a promising start to his SEC career before going down with an injury, and through a coaching change in Arkansas.

The DL needed help, too. I think we have 10 new guys on the DL this year... and Willis is a proven winner from a good program up at App. He'll be one of the few upperclassmen and if he's recovered from his injury, I think he'll start.

Good haul, Coach. 04-cheers Let's see if it pans out!

Tulsa's schedule looks familiar but markedly improved as we move through 2030.

We have two away games at OK state in 20 & 21 , but in 24 it becomes a 1-1 with them until 2031.
We have a 2-1 with OU with us getting the first home game in 2023 and the returns not coming until 2030 and 2033.
We got a 2-1 with Arkansas. Away in 26. Home in 27 and away in 29. More importantly it's the first time they've agreed to play in Tulsa since we beat them at home in 1952!
We play a few buy games @Ole Miss, @Washington, @Ohio State. We should be able to hang around in at least a couple of those.
The rest of our schedule is filled with mid major 1-1's. Arky State, Northern Illinois, La Tech, Army. All teams that have a chance to be decent every season.
The only real head scratcher is @Louisiana in 2028 with no apparent return date.

No, we play TCU because of an 80 something year history between the schools. That, and I'd argue we are stuck with North Texas on the schedule due to location.

Trust me, there are give-and-takes in this deal.

Still don't understand why this didn't happen last year. I was beginning to think Coach Houston had philosophical reasons for not using the portal (like the players are quitters or something) until all this. Something to be said for plugging in depth from elsewhere.

Plus the fact that we spent many years in the same conference (SWC) and they (TCU) are our chief rivals. We played them for a national championship one time.

We owe Louisiana from a series a while back, can't remember who (maybe Ohio St?) but we pushed the return game back.

There has been a noticeable turn (perhaps Gragg read several of my rants on the rival board) in scheduling and we are finally getting out of our own way. We should be signing regional g5 opponents in particular Louisiana and Texas schools. The away games are travable and if in the houston or dallas area we have strong alumni presence, the games are also in the hotbed of our recruiting. Playing them puts our name in front of media in those areas which promotes the program to recruits. Hosting these teams also maximizes the chance for away fans. I feel the same about our FCS buy games that I would like to see only every other year, we should get a close/regional school.

BYU and Army, maybe a Boise St are the only G5 I want to see out of our region. Otherwise we should be looking for 1-1s with low level p5s (would love to get duke, wake forest, vandy, northwestern) or 2-1s/buy games against name types. The Oklahoma St series is big for schedule stability. The Oklahoma deal is nice especially since the pay off is way later. Arkansas is bs but I know it means a lot to blue hairs many of whom will likely just make it to see the piggies come back to town.

My take is he was evaluating what we already had so he could really focus on making sure he got we he needed. He also may have felt that some of our talent just wasn't coached well and needed a new approach. Coach Houston has built his success off of transfers, especially at JMU. This is solely my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.

UTK won't honor the football game they owe Memphis, either, to my understanding. They don't like Memphis can whip their $40M SEC team these days.

The Arky St AD said Memphis has moved a game against ArkySt (didnt mention specifically what the scheduling change was for), but apparently they and Memphis took the opportunity to also extended that series by 4 additional games with a one year break in between.

Probably referring back to the days when UTK would play Ole Miss in Memphis but wouldn't schedule a game against the Memphis Tigers.

Many JMU fans would disagree. Houston's best year at JMU was the first year, when he won the Natty. Houston came to JMU with a lot of talent already in place. He fixed some locker room issues with mentality and team unity, and brought in Coach Trott who fixed our defense schemes, etc. The offense was already high powered from the prior year. Withers just didn't have a clue on defense, but insisted on running it himself.

In summary, would hardly say Houston "built" his success at JMU with new transfers. We do accept some transfers, but that isn't what fixed things.
