The Horizon League can survive without them. The only sport that could be in trouble is men’s swimming.

RE: Green Bay fires coach signed thru 2026
The question to me is where does the Horizon go from here. They've already added IUPUI and IPFW to the conference to tighten up geography.
I suppose there is more room at the inn for someone like Akron or EMU to move down to the Horizon League.
There hasn't been much news lately about EMU being in trouble but their membership in FBS has hung in largely because the board wants to maintain MAC membership. That sentiment could change, in fact they might even consider DII.

Maybe this is where Lindenwood or Southern Indiana would end up, if UW-Green Bay really is going to drop divisions. I think that we would see more coaches leaving if they were going to drop divisions.

It seems that if UWGB wanted to cut costs to move down a division or two, firing their highest-paid coach and paying him the last six years of his contract is not the best way to get you there, fiscally speaking.

D2 GLIAC makes sense.
D3 with most of the other state schools is plausible too.

LOL, watch them scoop St. Thomas from the Summit. Admittedly opens the geography up a bit, but they fit right in for being located in a major metropolitan area. And while the Horizon is mostly public schools, there is Catholic Detroit Mercy.
Of course, that's assuming they even add anyone. They'd be back at 10 members with PUFW on board. That works perfectly fine for basketball.

They're in even worse shape budget-wise than Green Bay.

RE: Green Bay fires coach signed thru 2026
Green Bay has had pretty good athletic programs. Women's programs are very strong. If they are staying D1, the rumor is Gary Grzesk, the coach at St. Norbert's and UWGB alum will be the new coach. He would be an inexpensive hire and has had a fair amount of success at the D3 level. His dad played at Marquette, so the family has name recognition in the state.
Not sure they would fit in the WIAC, without football and baseball. GB is smaller than many of the schools in the WIAC. Superior just was forced out of WIAC because it could not compete. GB is more like UW-Parkside, a D2 program located between Milwaukee and Chicago. But, there really is no financial advantage to joining D2, so the move doesn't make a lot of sense for GB. Parkside actually would be a good replacement for GB in the Horizon. Great location and pretty nice facilities.
BTW, I have never heard any rumors or interest on GB's part to start football. None. Its a small school. GB does have some fan support. They drew very well during the Dick Bennett years. But, its a tough place to recruit. I thought LD did a really good job considering the circumstances. Unless there is some scandal no one knows about, this has to be financially driven.

GB has never been a part of the WIAC. Hockey is a potential sport, but they need to be DIi or an independent in
DI. Dropping DI could pay for hockey. Think they are bound for the CCHA

Hum. There is something going on here between the coach and the school not being said. What that is I don't know.

Expect more conference changes soon:
UW Parkside is moving to the GLIAC
UW Eau Claire is funding almost half of a community arena
:https://m.volumeone.org/news/1/posts/2019/10/09/22716_its_happening_uwec_plans_to_start_100m_arena
Expect them to drop football. Join D2 and the GLIAC,
UWGB will join the CCHA
The CCHA needs more teams like smack dab in the center of its geography (Wisco) or MSP (St Thomas)

Your grammar here is what drives everybody nuts. Predicting that move is fine. But, with no basis for anything, you're just declaring it.

They are building a new athletic complex to replace their 60 year old gym. That doesn't mean they're upgrading anything to anywhere.
Quote:Expect them to drop football. Join D2 and the GLIAC,
No, no, nope. No reason on god's green earth to say that's happening, sorry.
Quote:UWGB will join the CCHA
Or not. Much more likely not.
Anyway, we've got 13 days left for ASUN or WAC or Summit schools to announce FBS plans, or you get to STFU for a while, right?

Parkside is and has been a D2 school for a long time. They are in the GLIAC (since 2018) and were in the GLVC before that (since 94). They were never in the WIAC.
Eau Claire is not dropping football.
Never heard of GB being interested in starting hockey.

Eau Claire is the hockey hub of Wisconsin Eau Claire tried a DI bypass for hockey as per olden days but didn't get it and still wants DI hockey. Dropping football needs to happen for their hockey dream to occur.
UWGB could make money if hockey was started. Those seats would be sold. That's why Augustana wants DI because their USHL team in Sioux Falls almost sells out every game. UND gets 250 k every season but somehow we are losers to people like you and DavidSt. Eau Claire is very similar to St Cloud St and Duluth but they have sense enough not to go overboard with DI because they can't afford it.
It's not June yet, as you insist. Our new President, from AFA, is installed June 1st, so that might delay any decision.
As always, of anyone disagrees with johnbragg or this board their plain wrong.

You posted the bet on May 9th. It was your idea. Is UND's presidential transition new information? Funny how you know everything that's going to happen in 30 different school administrations, but you missed that detail.

You remind me of Gordon Chang, author of The Coming Collapse of China. He published the book in 2001, and since then, he has hailed pretty much every single event as indicating the imminent collapse of the CCP regime.
Maybe he'll be right someday, but he's been a laughingstock for 10-15 years. Much like you.
