Take your crap to the political board please.

What happens to 2020 football if some states are open for play and others are not?

Is this the year that conferences literally break?

I guess you and I could discuss it.

I think it is very unlikely all the different states are going to agree on policies.

If the SEC doesn't play I will be shocked.

I agree. The SEC seems to be the one most likely to play. But will the NCAA step in and regulate this--like they did for the BB tournament?

It is difficult to believe that the conferences will break apart at this time--at least permanently. I can see where an SEC team might be happy to play someone like us, though. lol

I haven't been studying the situation in depth. I have heard rumors.

But maybe someone else has more info...?

I haven't seen anything I believe, and I don't have any in-the-know contacts.

I live in the shadow of Big Sucky Orange. The local talk-radio (news not sports) had a whole show on how games should be played: with fans, no fans, socially distanced, not played at all. The topic is heating up even outside the normal sports channels.

I did not hear a consensus.

Ahh...interesting.

I know many college ADs are preparing for a Spring Semester of Sports, which entirely precludes Fall.

It seems that if one P5 conference says 'NO' to on-campus classes, a few others will go down like dominoes, if for no other reason than the liability factor.

After a few conferences implode, the NCAA might step in and say...prepare for the Spring Semester. Fall is done.

Many decision makers are waiting to see how the loosening of state restrictions will affect the overall rates of infection. Others look at the population density surrounding their institutions, and testing/tracing/quarantining capabilities.

Folks are also taking into consideration that historically haunting second-wave-of-the-virus theory....It has people worried about folks congregating without protection, vaccines and testing in place.

On another note, there are some folks posting on this forum (griffin Shiloh) who have inside info. They are asserting that a realignment is being seriously discussed. I actually believe that. lol...

What about the NCAA...Will they just relinquish overall control... They don't want any more lawsuits.

During the time of the NCAA tournament, Emmert released a hands washing 'warning' to the colleges, telling them it was up to each institution to make sure infected coaches and team members did not travel. It was before they shut the tournament down completely.

This puts a burden on the college to procure enough tests, and to quarantine the infected--just a minor detail, I suppose. #sarcasm

ON anther note, University of Arizona developed its own antibody tests. Interestingly enough, UofA is now testing for the virus itself:

To lay the foundation for successful statewide implementation, a first phase of testing will begin on April 30 in Pima County and will include 3,000 health care workers and first responders.

With separate funding, approximately 1,500 members of the general public in Pima County, including university students currently residing on campus or in the county, also will be tested to provide a measure of comparison to the health care worker and first responder groups.

Testing for the remainder of the state will expand to health care workers and first responders throughout Arizona on May 7.

The university also will provide antibody blood testing for the remaining majority of its 45,000 students and 15,000 employees with separate funding. Plans for that testing are still being finalized.

Coronavirus was weaponized by China to destroy the economy to hurt Trump come election.

Democrat ran states are locked down, illegally at that.

It's not about fear of an overhyped flu virus. It's political warfare.

The "new norm".
I am a Conservative Republican and have heard several comments on the accusation that states with Democrat Governors are going to stay in lock down while states with Republican governors want to open up their states. This is NOT TRUE. All you have to do is a little research and see that there is no correlation between Democrat governors wanting extended lock downs. Just Google state lock down dates and match it up with the state governor's political affiliation and you will quickly see there is no correlation. Each Governor is making their own decision based on their situation.

As someone else pointed out, that's simply NOT TRUE.

I've accumulated quite a large spreadsheet of COVID facts over the past few weeks. I'm a geek that way. One thing I track is state metrics, reopening, and the associated politics.

I use retail and restaurants as the benchmark of a state "reopening". Most already allow essential other businesses, and "essential" is loosely defined. If a state allows retail stores to reopen and diners in restaurants, then that largely indicates most of the state has reopened.

Out of 51 states (including DC - I know it's not a state), 24 have reopened using this definition.
18 of those states have Republican governors.
5 have Democrat governors.
1 has a Dem governor who wanted to remain closed, but lost a lawsuit to Republican lawmakers and had to reopen.

20 states are still closed.
17 have Dem governors.
3 have Rep governors.

The remaining 7 states are partially reopened (retail open, restaurants closed). Those states are split between D/R at 3/4.

It's a nice soundbite to say that politics are not involved. But the data indicates otherwise.
