When you've graduated and want to return to your college for games, reunions, etc., how do you want to be remembered. All three players were given every opportunity by NIU to excell, both under Carey and Hammock. This is very disappointing and I believe short sighted.

Fanfare and hype?

Yeah, there's something about 5,000 fans in a 25,000 seat stadium that sends chills down my spine.

Now they get to transfer to a college where they can sit on the bench and watch 50,000 cheer for the guys that are actually playing.

Yep.
Thanks Pritzker.

If you're in a state that's in the middle of nowhere and hardly anyone lives there, it's not surprising that they would be more likely to have football. Even the virus can't find Idaho on a map, or Montana, or Arkansas, or New Mexico.

I agree. It is very bad for college football in the long run.

Maybe for Brinkmann and Perez, but Heflin has the ability to start at most P5 schools in the country.

Maybe he'll start, and maybe he won't. He was definitely starting at NIU.

Has Perez officially entered tranfer portal, or is it still speculative that he will?

Losing 3 starters suck, but there’s plenty of talent on this team. Just a small set back that will be overcome by our guys...

As annoying as it is, I don’t think we lose these players if it weren’t for this crisis. These guys might just want to play closer to home near their families. Could be the same reason we’re recruiting so well in Illinois right now.

Of course others are going to take advantage of it, for a whole bunch of individual reasons (coaches, facilities, friends, campus, family, weather, prospects, whatever). You can't get away with making a rule that exclusively benefits the P5. Then you start getting into anti-trust, etc etc etc.

Fans who don't realize this are the disillusioned ones ... the P5 runs football, and BB for that matter, for its own benefit. They toss some crumbs at the G5 (and probably FCS) because they have to keep it legal, and need those levels to fill in some blanks.

That's the landscape of college football.

Disillusioned, huh? Or maybe the people who think "oh poor G5 we're being picked on by a big P5 conspiracy," are just making excuses and playing victim. The transfer landscape is hurting and benefiting both groups equally. 3 out of the 4 playoff teams last year had a transfer as their starting QB. You think Georgia isn't hurt by Fields not being there this coming season? You think Alabama wouldn't have loved to have still had Hurts with Tua getting hurt? NIU is getting two years of starting QB play from a P5 transfer. Go back and look at last year, 7 QB's transferred from a G5 team to a P5 team. 3 of them had never even started a game for their G5 team so clearly not a case of P5 poaching top talent. A 4th who was a starter, and a very good one, left after getting beat out by a transfer who came in from a P5 team. So basically 3 QB's were poached from G5 last year. Then count the # that transferred from P5 down to G5 and it is many, many times more. Now in most cases those guys weren't big time players either, or maybe had off field issues, or needed a fresh start for whatever reason. Go through the rest of the positions in the transfer portal and you will see similar numbers at each. Not to mention that G5 teams do the same exact thing to FCS and vice versa. Kenny Golladay, anyone? None of this is new. It's just happening at a much higher rate nowadays because we live in an instant gratitude society. The NCAA and the P5 didn't create this. Society did.

I think the difference is the starters transferring. All 3 QBs in the playoffs transferred because they were back ups. Heflin, Golladay, they we’re their teams top talent. Depth transfer will happen on both sides, but top players who start are primarily exiting G5 schools.

Perhaps the fans should transfer too? I and debating where to go. I'm not that rabid of a fan to transfer to a P-5 (except maybe Northwestern, my alma mater). I could go to another, perhaps higher profile G-5. But, I'm sort of leaning towards an FCS school, where I can be a bigger fish in a smaller pond. I don't want to be a fan of an in-state school, but I am thinking of a school in the Midwest or South. At this point, prior to my official commitment and transfer, I am thinking of Tennessee Tech, because they have extremely hot girls there, and the school supports their Golden Girls Dance Team, Coed Cheer Team, and All Girl Cheer team. I will be up for every game! This is a transfer made in heaven!!

Losing 3 good players. They had to move, it's May and the northern states have not committed to playing. Wild *** guess K State and Vandy took MAC players last year. Very possible players are headed to teams in the South with new coaches. Arkansas, Miss St, Miss. all 3 need physical players. SEC is playing virus or no virus, no governor will pull the plug on them in an election year.

California State Universities announced today that the Fall semester will be online. No in person classes. How does that affect San Diego State, Fresno State, and San Jose State football teams? Are they shut down?

The University of California system has not announced yet. UCLA & Cal.

Potential transfers? Have to start looking Oregon is shut down until October as of now. PAC 12 won't have a season, maybe Utah, the AZ schools will play, but the others are a lean to no.

Heard that California State University news today. And this post is giving some PAC 12 updates. I think back about 6-7 weeks ago, I was hopeful there would be something close to a season, but given this news occurs and it's only mid-may, I'm now of the mind there won't be football this year. Feels like we're just waiting for the 'season cancelled' announcements to come, each conference will announce, it'll be like dominoes falling.

I agree with this. I do not think this is as much about disgruntledness with the NIU program as it is for the MAC in general. Show is over for MAC athletics, this virus was the nail in the coffin.

Heflin, Brinkman, and Perez all live together. Obviously they must have all been discussing this together. Wonder if it has anything to do with it. Definitely a coincidence they all announced the exact same day

I haven't seen any comments on this.

But there is more than meets the eye here as to the 3 amigos. As stated, not a coincidence.

I wish all three of them the best, they each had good moments at NIU. Heflin was a beast. I sure hope they aren't making such big, important decisions based on what their roommates are doing, that'd be a young, scary thing to do.

So many reasons to potentially transfer, very hard for any of us to understand went into it.
