RE: Louisville
If you take away the 17 game win streak Louisville had during our extreme suck period of the late 70's through the mid 80's, we'd have the advantage.

Probably getting hung up on by a Westwood, CA number as we speak.

You can't wish away the Yates years...a great lesson was learned there.

BTW--if they let the revenue sports "de-couple" it would mean more $$$ for a lot more AD's..Let MBB associate with their best rivals, and let FB do the same. The conferences wouldn't have to match up, and every revenue sport would have the best chance at producing a compelling schedule with excellent rivalries.

That sounds nice in theory, but it would not work in practice. Most schools disagree with who their best rivals are. Louisville probably thinks Virginia is a bigger rival than we are, Rutgers considers Penn State a rival (but I am guessing they are far down the line for the Nittany Lions).

I think all would agree that rivalry week highlights the top rivalries in the country--use that as a guide.

Well, as a side bar, this UL guy says:

Quote:Perhaps the most uber-loathed opponent in Louisville basketball history, outside of the Kentucky Wildcats, is that of our sister city right up I-71: Cincinnati.

That introduction gives you a clue about the rest of his article for those interested in a UL perspective on the renewal of the rivalry:

Reliving the best moments in Louisville basketball rivalry vs. Cincinnati

I sort of said that tongue-in-cheek, although I have to wonder where we sit to the fans/alums/students who started following Louisville in 2014. I did a quick browse on Louisville's 247 and note many are on board with the series, but could note help several posts that equate us to mid-major status.

Amusing isn't it, how quickly fandom breeds its own arrogance?

Informed fans know that neither Cincy nor Louisville were ever really mid-major, but both got invited to the "big leagues" BCS 6/Big East the same year. To Louisville's credit, they were fully prepared when a defection from the ACC created a brief opening.

UofL IS mid-major when it comes to academics. Consider the source of the comments.

Yes, that is correct for sure. UC was Louisville's "benchmark" institution for many years in terms of what they aspired to be in terms of academics, research and endowment.

Hoosier fans where I'm from always called it "Rape arena". I wouldn't be surprised if most of the SEC fanbases have unflattering nicknames for it.

Speaking of Louisville, looks like the NCAA has notified them with allegations: https://www.si.com/college/louisville/ba...e-noa-ncaa

Yep, it will be interesting to see if Vitale's comments recently play out correctly. He indicated Arizona and Lsu will face the most serious allegations and i don't believe they have yet rec'd their notices:

Vitale said. “Trust me, reliable sources tell me that LSU and Arizona basketball will be hit with MAJOR allegations by the NCAA.”

Good. They should. Louisville got caught cheating while ON PROBATION. LSU and Arizona have held their middle fingers up for over a year while letting Wade and Miller coach without reprimand. I generally don't favor the Ncaa imposing serious sanctions, but when schools like this blatantly make a mockery of the rules they should be held accountable.

No, I think the NCAA is going to absolutely hammer all of them.

Banned from post season play for the 2019-2020 season is my prediction.

They should hammer Pitino too. Would make it really entertaining.
