He does look the part of a D1 player. Don’t know if he is on the radar. Academic qualification at Bellarmine could be an issue for many who would otherwise fit in.

It is I, the all knowing KnightStalker, reincarnated as the Boogie man (still need Grad to look into that cease and desist order!) Took a long time for the Man here on CSNbbs to let me in!

Looks like some stiff recruiting competition. Looking at Youtube videos, this young man is agile and very quick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBao7FWvjso
Could be a game changer.

Verbal Commits now lists Ayden Mudd (6'7" St Xavier) as committed to Bellarmine for 2021-22. I did not see any announcement on this, but maybe I missed it.

News to me too. Just based on an admittedly quick search, don't see a ton of info about him online.

Look to have some good size and an ability to "finish."

Wonder if he's connected to a Mudd whom I knew at BU back in the Dark Ages of my matriculation.

William Mudd ('93) is chariman of the board of trustees. Wonder if there is a relation. Ayden is at St. X so I wouldn't be surprised if that's his father. Probably committed as a preferred walk on.

Since I am an amateur genealogist I have various sources to look up these things. Ayden Mudd's father was Brian Mudd and his mother was Christy Horvath. He was born in Jefferson County in 2003 (I won't give an exact date due to privacy concerns we genealogists try to follow). For the most part all of the people in this part of Kentucky with a surname of Mudd (I have some among my ancestors) are descendants of the "Maryland to Kentucky Catholics" group who came from the Southern Maryland counties of St. Mary, Charles, Prince George and Calvert Counties to central Kentucky around present day Nelson, Marion and Washington Counties between 1785 and 1810.
So I don't think he was the son of the guy who was/is is the BU Board of Directors but all people in Louisville with the name of Mudd are probably cousins albeit many are only distantly related.

RE: Recruiting class
Bellarmine gets a commitment from Curt Hopf, a 6'9" senior at Barr-Reeve (IN) who chose the Knights over Toledo, Miami (OH), Central Michigan, Akron, Lipscomb, and Morehead State:

https://www.courierpress.com/story/sport...245872002/

He's been the subject of quite a bit of discussion in southern Indiana:

https://www.courierpress.com/story/sport...230908002/

Seems like he could be yet another "steal" by Scotty.

It will be interesting to see how he plays his senior year, after sitting out since soph season. It looks like Scotty may have gotten a gigantic bargain. The pessimist in me keeps hearing a faintly whispered "Josh Derksen".

Ben Johnson may be the front runner for Kentucky Mr. Basketball. He is undeniably a great scorer. He drips with confidence. He also looks to be a good ball handler. Not sure if he can be a PG, probably a 2. He is going to have to come in with an attitude about playing defense if he wants to contribute right away or he could end up getting the Brent Bach treatment. He needs to get on serious training regimen or he will start college way behind.

Curt Hopf really could be a a huge signing. His administrative history, for lack of a better term, is obviously concerning, but I cannot believe that Scotty has not satisfied himself in this regard. He transferred to Barr Reeve after his sophmore season but was ruled ineligible for his junior year by the IHSAB. They deemed the transfer to be for athletic purposes. His parents sued to get his eligibility and lost.
The reasons I find this troubling:

(1) He claimed the transfer was because he was being bullied at Forrest Park. The board simply did not believe him and stated that the tranfer was transparently for athletic reasons. IMO, if parents want to move so their extremely talented child can have a better athletic experience there is no reason they should not be able to do that without him losing a very valuable year of eligibilty. Alas, Indiana rules say otherwiase. The problem here is that there seems to have been some prevarication involved with the claim of bullying. If the bullying allegations were true, it does not speak well of his chances of weathering the storm that we all know Scotty can be.

(2) The incident smacks of over involved parenting. Don't really know, just saying there is a certain whiff of it.

With regards to basketball, the young man looks to be a potential star stretch 3. He is not a spot up shooter but a shooter/scorer/slasher/ ball handler. He looks like the kind of player that leads good D1 teams in scoring. The fact that he has signed early with Bellarmine is a great indicator that he really wants to play Bellarmine basketball.

Hopf is "signed, sealed, and delivered":
https://www.wthitv.com/content/sports/Cu...96441.html
https://www.washtimesherald.com/sports/h...20406.html

Interesting that (in addition to Toledo, Miami (OH), Central Michigan, Lipscomb, and Morehead State) he also had an offer from Evansville -- hadn't seen UE listed before.
