Ahem, yeah, so there it is.
The ACC is actually a soccer power. 12 of the 15 schools in The ACC sponsor soccer. 10 of the 12 teams made the NCAA Soccer Tournament last fall.
Only 5 ACC teams sponsor Men’s Lacrosse.
With that being said I hated to see y’all drop soccer. Cincinnati has some serious soccer supporters.
Twas really tongue in cheek than an actual prediction. Mixed with my passion for lacrosse and my unshakeable need to see UC field a D1 team one day.
Regardless, more of a joke than anything.

Is there not a requirement that Div1 must carry 14 sports minimum?

Yes I think it requires 7 men and 7 women teams or six men and 8 women. With the loss of soccer I believe we now have 7 men and 9 women teams.

For now...that was a major point in the letter from the G5 Commissioners to the NCAA.

Does that mean they have to be scholarships, or could they be walk-on?

"Varsity" so school-sponsored with a certain amount of scholarship.
"Club" sports are "hosted" by a school but not officially sponsored (liabilities are assumed by the school) and hence also no scholarships are offered by the school for participation.

I thought the Ivy's didn't do schollies for any sport...misperception?

This is hitting everyone.
Baylor just announced a need to cut between $65,000,000-$80,000,000 from their FY21 Operating Budget...

Yes, but the Ivies do sponsor Varsity sports... They fund them, take responsibility for them, etc... And I think they (The Ivy League) made some changes, especially in Basketball, around admission standards for players.

Pre-Corona, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was already cutting their subsidies to Temple, Pitt and Penn State by 30%. I suspect Temple, at least, is going to be in a world of hurt. They announced a 5% cut from all departments, execs will take a 10% pay cut and faculty will not get their raises.

5% is just the beginning in that scenario...if the state cut subsidies by 30%, that alone would reduce revenues by around 12% for them, and that doesn't even factor in the likely decline in enrollment.

I agree. And reading the linked article (above) if a large, highly endowed, prestigious private competing successfully at the top of the P5 in football and men's basketball anticipates such a steep decline in their enrollment and budget, just imagine what smaller, privates that are decidedly middle-of-the-road academically may need to do? One in our area comes to mind.

Yep, although Xavier is likely highly resistant to this due to their robust online course offerings, I would argue there are probably 5-8 private schools in Ohio that will cease operations or become VERY different institutions because of this.

But Temple isn't private.
People aren't going to pay $50k/year for an online education. So private schools will be hurt the most.
The schools that will win are inexpensive schools with good name brands and decent online offerings. That's the niche of second-tier public schools like Temple and UC.
Additionally, enrollment typically goes up in recessions. If you can't find a job, you need to learn different skills. Or you can use the time to bolster your credentials with an extra degree. So it wouldn't surprise me if nationwide enrollment is flat or slightly up this fall.

Temple, Pitt and Penn State are state-affiliated. They receive state funding but it is a slightly smaller percentage of the budget than traditional public schools elsewhere.

That's not the point.
The point is that Temple's tuition is 16-20k for in-state and 29-37k for out-of-state (depending on major; most students pay the lower amount).
Drexel (Temple's most direct competitor) is $56k. Villanova is $57k. St. Joe's is $46k.
Students are willing to pay 2-3 times as much so that they can get to know their professors and have (maybe) better social opportunities. But if everything's online, those advantages disappear.
