RE: Realistic fall football timelines?
My gut feeling is the same. And I think NIU is facing a major overhaul in both academics and athletics. Anyone expecting things to return to the "normal" pre-coronavirus is not grounded in reality.

Some notes:
--- Huskie Stadium need some improvements (restrooms, concession areas, skybox with leaking roof, etc.), but maybe having a 23,595-seat stadium with no bad seats is not such a disadvantage.
--- Northern is not in the midst of a big new facility binge like some other G5 schools stuck in the midst of major building programs.
--- I doubt ESPN is going to let NIU or the MAC renegotiate a contract (expires in 2027) so the individual schools can seek better deals, including greater income from online streaming, etc. ESPN wants the content and the money. Remember, that contract is not between ESPN and 12 public universities. It is between ESPN, a private company, and the MAC, a private entity representing those public universities, who signed on for the duration.
---As with the above, selling the soul for guaranteed income is going to take a bigger bite through lack of flexibility. Even the contract itself is not a public document (Toledo reporter tried FOI and failed to get full access), so we don't know if/what wiggle room there is for additional revenue.
--- I personally would hate this, but if more events go heavily to TV and online, will someone ask why we need a band for a big halftime show? The cheerleaders? The Silverettes? Those were cut before, and some still are. With a tighter budget, survival becomes Job 1. In the Sept. 11, 2019, Athletic Board meeting, STF noted that upon his arrival there was a lot of "low-lying fruit," a reference to the cuts he had made. There isn't much such fruit left, if any. The saving grace is that participants have to be full-time students (= enrollment) ... don't they?

These are just a few unknowns, and that's what it all is, unknown.

I/we need some real positive news for our beloved university and Huskies.

RE: Realistic fall football timelines?
Too bad you don't believe what you're spewing.

How about we let you and your ilk go back to school, church, restaurants, work, etc. However, you agree that because you took the risk, if you then get sick, you are NOT allowed to use our crowded medical facilities, use our limited medicines, get on a ventilator and endanger our health care workers? If you get COVID-19, you stay home and treat yourself.

Not only are you taking a chance on getting the virus, you're increasing the risk of infecting others while you're asymptomatic.

What exactly is "getting on with our lives?" Do you wear a seatbelt? Do you cook your chicken and pork before you eat it? Do you look both ways before you cross the street? How is trying to stay safe during a viral pandemic not "living our lives?"

"Some risk?" We have 96% of the country staying at home and still have 25,000 people dead. This is NOT the flu

According to CDC estimates, the 2081-19 flu season saw 35 million Americans (who all worked, prayed and partied together) get the flu and 35,000 die.

So far, about 500,000 people have been reported with COVID-19 and 25,000 have died. Can you imagine the number if we had just "lived our lives?"

What is wrong with you?

And by the way, the people you are most likely to encourage to go back to work and school are conservative Whites, who will die in larger number than minorities, who will then become a larger percentage of the population.

Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of trying to make America "great" again?

He has been rejected by both heaven and hell and is stuck on earth until NIU has a national champion in basketball.

I am guessing this virus won't affect dogs or vampires or any combination thereof.

Dogs are immune with the exception of dog pound members. Still Avoid a vampire coughin’ ⚰️

Just don't sit next to MD when they run out of hot dogs. He might take a bite of you!

RE: Realistic fall football timelines?
With what you know now, if the season were to magically open tomorrow, would you attend in person? Even with the hospitals pretty full in our area, and no good treatments?

I'm in my late 50s, health is pretty good, no issues except high cholesterol and allergies.
I say, no, I just wouldn't feel safe and relaxed going. Especially with people like the posters on this board there :) :)

In the past few days I've thought ' what would it take for me to go back to a Hawks game, a Sox or Cub game?'. And actually have fun and not be paranoid about touching something that's infected. My answer is - I want to see much better treatment news, and, I don't want to hear it takes alot of work to just get tested. I don't think I need to have a vaccine available.

What's everyone else's personal criteria?

Wow, you hit all the talking points, too bad most of them are wrong.

Care to show us your math, or are you a FOX News viewer. Simply tell a lie and it becomes the truth? How many points did I make and which ones were incorrect? Are my CDC numbers incorrect? Are 25,000 people not dead from COVID-19? What percent of the country is under stay-at-home orders?

When you can pull yourself away from Judge Jeannie, can you prove that most of what I posted was factually incorrect?

I am in the "high risk" category. So there is no way I would attend any event with lots of people now. And, I most likely will not attend a Huskie football or basketball game until this is all controlled with a vaccine. I don't have all that many years left and I would prefer to keep them.

Damn. I'm sorry to hear. I guess I will have to carry the torch and shut the concession stands early. I will eat an additional hot dog in your honor, until you return.

Wait a minute, bud! I will still go to Huskie Stadium, buy a sh!t load of hot dogs (if any are available), eat them in my car (with condiments dripping down my face), and then go home. Hey, I wonder if the hot dogs will be impacted by supply chain disruptions? 03-weeping

No. Been buying them for 50% of my diet under stay-at-home order. Would buy them for 50% of my diet without stay-at-homer order. Otherwise, how else would anyone survive the off-season without hotdogs? Like you, X # of years left, so have to indulge.

Thankful for Lipitor (Atorvastatin). Take one little pill a day, and then indulge in eating fat. It's a miracle! Sort of like that little blue pill called Viagra. One little pill, and then I can indulge in...… (Well, maybe I'd better take 2 of those pills!)

This breaking news just in....it has been learned that Huskie Stadium hot dogs infer immunity from the Covid19 virus. However, the concession stand appears to be out of them. Damn.

Damn. I'm sorry to hear. I guess I will have to carry the torch and shut the concession stands early. I will eat an additional hot dog in your honor, until you return.

This breaking news just in....it has been learned that Huskie Stadium hot dogs infer immunity from the Covid19 virus. However, the concession stand appears to be out of them. Damn.

That was great. Mad respect. Also, I hear shaking Sean Frazier's hand cures you as well.

I am in the "high risk" category. So there is no way I would attend any event with lots of people now. And, I most likely will not attend a Huskie football or basketball game until this is all controlled with a vaccine. I don't have all that many years left and I would prefer to keep them.

It's true. However, with where he needs to stick it, I think I'd rather have the virus. 04-jawdrop 03-weeping
