OT: COVID Check-In
How's everyone doing? Are you practicing social distancing? Are you wearing a facemask out in public? Have any of you been laid off from work or working from home? Any issues trying to get stuff from WalMart or the grocery store? I'm trying to stay busy and spend time with my teens. Sad in a way but this virus outbreak has brought us closer together as a family unit. Spent most of the day outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Sunny, low 70s. I mowed for the second week in a row. Opened my crawl space vents. Sprayed RoundUp all over the place to kill weeds. I spent 8 hours yesterday cleaning out my man cave and re-arranging furniture in there. Wondering when life will get back to normal. Or, when life will get back to the NEW normal. Sippin' on a glass of merlot and typing this to dudes I've never met. Strange world sometimes.

Third week now of working from home. We've been isolating as much as possible, mostly because we think we may have had this. I travelled to a conference at the end of February and did a client on-site. They are based overseas and actually closed their office the following week because of Covid concerns. Anyway, four days later my wife leaves town for work travel. The next night I get body aches, chills, dry cough. Few days after that I have breathing problems and soreness in my throat. Wife gets home, breathing gets worse (can't make it through a day without laying down and sleeping mid-afternoon). Bad headaches. A few days later she starts through the same symptom cycle, albeit milder. This is when Ohio starts taking action and we began to get nervous. Tried to get tested but couldn't. I have family that works at UC Health. Symptoms eventually passed, although I still have very mild breathing issues occasionally. Just not entirely at 100%. Not sure if we had it but if we didn't that's terrifying. Now just hoping we can ride this out like everyone else. Stay healthy. Stay safe. Love all of you misfits around here.

Oh man! I'm glad you and your wife weren't hospitalized or worse. No one in my family or anyone I know thus far has shown any symptoms. Of course, we now know that you don't have to show any symptoms to have it. I live in a rural county down here in North Carolina and we have only a few infections confirmed and one death. The person was over 60 and had existing complications from a lung issue. I'm just thankful I don't live in New York City. That is scary stuff going on there.

Got off cruise ship 3/8 where we had no illnesses.

Have been eating all meals in and staying in since. Boring!

Groceries using Kroger pickup. When picking up RX I wear gloves, N95 mask and swim googles just for fun.

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
All good, I had to go through a mandatory test as my live-in girlfriend is an NP in Toledo Hospital's Oncology Department and any adult who may have been exposed was forced to, but we're both good and she has since moved off site to a secondary clinic so we're not completely out of the woods, but it's far better than it was before for us anyways. Two of my colleagues at UT have come down with it, both after our mandatory work/teach-remote order came out and they're both better now, but it still hits pretty damn close to home.

I'm far more worried about having a job when this is all said and done than I am about the CV now, because man things do not look good for higher education outside of the three most stable institutions in the state.

Stay safe out there and I hope to see some of you down in Nippert in the fall...all of this has made me really yearn for the days of going to a stadium rather than sitting in a family room 200 miles away and watching the Cats.

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
I'm in Central Illinois. People panicked two weeks ago when the governor announced on Friday afternoon that a shelter-in-place would be in place effective Saturday morning. He forgot to mention that grocery stores would still be open. Everyone went to the grocery. Weird thing was... anything you'd use to actually cook was in plentiful supply.

Flour, sugar, ground sausage, most fresh or frozen veggies were in stock. But potatoes, cottage cheese, steak, frozen dinners, bread were all out. Apparently a large number of people don't know how to cook anything more complicated than a microwaved potato.

But I went to the store yesterday, and everything was in stock except toilet paper.

I have a friend in Siberia (Russia), and she was b!tching to me about the toilet paper shortage there too. Apparently it's worldwide.

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
I've left the house once in the past two weeks. We stockpile normally because we hate to run out of things, so we're just digging into one of our 3 freezers. My wife is a homebody so this is a Godsend for her.

We normally homeschool our kids so that's no big deal for us, but they can't go to sports or scouts or their weekly homeschool meeting to see their friends. They're a little antsy, but we have several acres so we just send them outside to let off some steam. We go on 1-2 family bike rides every day, although I've had to miss several. I'm a professor, and moving my classes online doubled my workload (it didn't do that for all professors, but I'm trying my damndest to keep the standards high for my students).

I'm in a white collar town in Central Illinois. About 1/3 of people shopping at the grocery had gloves and 1/10 had masks.

We're the only ones in our social circle who are taking precautions because we have a 3-month old who is in the 0.02 weight percentile (0.02%, or 2nd smallest in 10,000). Our friends are begrudgingly doing social distancing, but I have little doubt they'll stop doing so if this goes on for months.

I refuse to wear a mask in public unless it's mandated. Even if it is mandated, where will I buy one? I have some construction masks, but they do nothing.

This sucks. I am going nuts. My family is annoying me. I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Please God wake me!

I work at a hospital and we are in full out lockdown mode- have been for a couple weeks. Started wearing masks last week. Have temperature checks twice daily. Only 2 people can ride the elevator at a time. Only two people can sit across from one another at a 6 ft round table at lunch. No visitors allowed. And the census is falling because all elective procedures are shut down. People getting called off.

I took a three day weekend but home is just as bad as work these days. Kids are going nuts with all this online learning and no friends to play with. Nothing on tv or internet news but doom and gloom.

This is the most unAmerican time in the history of our country.

I haven't worn one yet but I am considering it since I still work in a public setting. I don't want to take one from those in the health care field so I'll use one of my bazillion old white tee shirts that I keep for rags...

I'll second that.

I feel like I'm incarcerated. I am prevented by the government from going to work, church, public events, my kids can't go to school, I can't go to a sports bar to watch a game... because there are no games. Is this the USA or North Korea?

If this goes on much longer and the economy tanks, you're going to see a pandemic of crime, domestic violence and suicide.

All for a virus that has killed less than the seasonal flu already had and about 98% of those who contract it survive.

Amy Acton said that there were 100,000 people in Ohio already infected with covid19 on March 12. FALSE. As of today, there were about what, 3300? Nobody in a position to do so holds her feet to the fire about that, but they'll believe all the gloom and doom hook line and sinker.

Now they want us all to walk around looking like Jesse James.

Meanwhile, we just sit here and watch the so-called experts running around the house trying to kill that fly with a sledgehammer.

Oh the "this is just the flu" line is still a thing? Thought that died out a few weeks ago.

No, the faux news narrative lives on. You can't fix stupid.

My life is basically unchanged from usual except I do take out twice a week instead of eating out that often, and there are no live sports to watch.

Still take my walks, ride my bicycle, cruise the Internet, design boardgames for fun, read, work on Minster football history, do an occasional podcast.

Now if this is still going on come boardgame convention time this summer or football time this fall, then I will have problems.

RE: OT: COVID Check-In
Was working from home until this past Friday. I work in healthcare, they furloughed the majority of home office employees with the exception of some limited staff to run a few functions.

My days are spent exercising and helping the kids with their school work. The amount of work my 2nd and 3rd grader have been getting is crazy. We are putting in a full day of projects, checking assignments, etc. My wife and I are both educated people, I can only imagine how difficult this is for parents who are working and/or unable to help.

I’ve dropped about 8 pounds in the past few weeks. I have some dumb bells down stairs so my workout routine is more high intensity with lower weight. Miss the feel of heavy free weight. I have been running about 24 miles a week as well. I also take my boys on a 3-4 mile bike ride in the afternoon.

I am staying at home, catching up on insulating the AC ducts under the crawlspace.

I will also need to retape the vapor barrier to the walls. Don't want mold to make a return appearance.

I've had this issue as well. I'm down about 5 pounds over the last couple weeks and my weight was already low coming into this. I've been walking on average probably 90 minutes just to get out of the house and relieve stress. To replace lifting I've purchased resistance bands and gotten into resistance band workouts but it's not the same. I typically eat healthy so over the last few days I've really tried to eat more than I think I need to try to keep my mass up.
