Gee. I "heard" they might like to start the CFB season a couple weeks early.

Here you go Mr. Snitty:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footba...nd-impact/

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2884...s-canceled

https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/4/1/...ation-2020

Apparently you have not heard that the head of the CDC has mentioned a potential second wave of the virus in the fall?

Okay. I'm retired and read a lot of this and use intellectual rigor.

first, there was some discussion about moving the season UP to 'beat' a potential second wave.

The season starts late this year, because Labor Day is late this year. Could move up say 2 weeks and try to finish the regular season by early November, not late November.

Second, I may read this text different than you. Yes, there is a chance but it isn't great (according to the aggregated responses of the respondents).

The text suggests that the season being canceled is a small probability. No one is say they said 50 - 50 chance. (50 - 50 chance is the most pessimistic outlook).

And third, the NFL is planning on a full season.

Getting back to one of your predicates is that a second wave will come and when?

Remember, the NCAA season could end by election day if the NCAA and conferences wish.

The MAC could move the 'back end' of the schedule to the 3rd and 4th weekends in August (not really different than some FCS schools starting early). If there is a 12th game left in November it could be canceled. The season could run for mid-late August thru the end of October.

P.S. to the NCAA, I wish they'd give conferences the option of starting a week early and moving games from the LAST weekend of the season to late August.

P.S. IF there is a truly a second wave, much of U.S., us, etc. are screwed.

This pandemic is both a public health and economic disaster. If we have 'round two' we will have bigger things to worry about than the FB season and who will be our starting QB.

We are struggling through this now because the country was in good shape before the pandemic hit. A 2nd round would be like being in the ring with Mike Tyson, getting knocked down and getting up at the 8 count and then getting knocked out two rounds later.

Fine. We are NOT disagreeing.

I am NOT a science denier. I do not know if a second wave will come. Probably in some form, hopefully limited, would be my guess. It might take a year or two for vaccines and for the general public to have had the 'opportunity' to build up antibodies, etc.

What I'm saying though it that it would hurt FOOTBALL SCHEDULE wise the big schools if the 2020 season was compromised.

If they had to cancel a game or play a game before ZERO fans, a school like UofM could lose a gate of $10 - 15M for ONE game. For us, playing before ZERO fans is a small gate lost.

For players they could test them a few days before the game and if they are negative, the game could go on.

I read that we could see MLB games possibly without fans until the experts feel that 40K folks can be in a stadium and not risk spreading the virus.

RE: Murphy to return next season
If and when football season tickets come on sale we would buy them but since we are high risk individuals we are not likely to go to the games this season but want to show our support. We will also use part of our stimulus funds to make an additional contribution to the Athletic Department.

We would all like our lives to return to normal . The fact is none of us are in control of that. Ditto the upcoming football season.

In the meantime I wish all of you here to be healthy and safe. Michigan has gotten creamed by this thing.

And I can hope Murphy can find two centers via virtual recruiting.

I have been watching some of the videos of Jamal Burke. Would make a nice center for us. Very versatile.

Very classy on your part, still purchasing season tickets, and donating to your beloved alma mater with your stimulus check!!!!!!!!!!!!! Much respect to you! Stay safe!

That one is going to leave a mark! As a freshman, I thought he showed more potential than McAdoo our last promising four year guard recruit.

The NCAA and MAC are not same as when we went to EMU. The best recruiting schools Duke, Kansas and Kentucky last won a championship five years ago. Despite getting the best players, the one and done stars don't get you the trophy. Michael Jordan does not spend four years in school anymore.

Four of the best players in the MAC are in the transfer portal. Turner from BG, El-Amin from BSU as well as Flowers and Johnson in Kzoo. A great MAC player like Jaaron Simmons from Ohio will leave for Michigan and be a bench player for the chance to play in front of 10K fans and the possibility of becoming a Big Ten starter.

I used to pound on Murphy for his penchant to recruit JUCO guys. I was WRONG. His two prized HS recruits, Thompson and Lee had too much baggage for the larger programs, and the transfer portal was non-existent or they would have transferred as well.

I've learned two lessons here. First, DO NOT ever red-shirt a player in MAC BB. Why pay the four years of scholarship of a guy who can grad transfer in his final year. Second, pursue a good JUCO guy over a potentially talented HS kid, a Grant Long will realize who he is and be gone after a year or two. The JUCO guy will require little development and while he does not have the upside of a Grant Long, he has a more defined period of contribution.

I don't like it at all, but it is what it is. I will still enjoy EMU basketball but it is obvious that the MAC will no longer be relevant on the national stage.

Barnes isn’t a frosh. You might be thinking of James?

The transfer-happiness of modern college basketball does change the way the MAC needs to recruit to be relevant.

Here is a discussion about what could happen with MLB. Could it happen with NFL and college FB?

Could we see UofM play before 110K empty seats?

https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status...57856?s=20

What I could see: Players are tested 2 days before the game. If negative they can play. ONLY spectators say 100 family and friends (player passes). Coaches, staff, game officials, media, etc.

We would watch the games at home before 99% empty stadiums...

Thanks for sharing. I think that is another transfer I lament as Chris Barnes provided some offense off the bench which saved a couple games for EMU this year.

IMO, he was underutilized last year especially with diminishing minutes as the year went on. And would likely get worse given further competition from Gibson’s return and potential growth of sophomore Dillard. So this is probably a good decision for him.

And as much as I hate to lose players, I think EMU can use the additional scholarship to throw at another potential solution at center. So we currently stand at 3 available scholarships. Correct?

Actually, I think the right thing to do is give Ballard one of the scholarships. He provided valuable minutes at the beginning of the season when Murphy was running the deep 10 man rotation. And again pretty much sealed the Buffalo(?) win for EMU when Toure got into foul trouble. This team relied on him as much as any scholarship player. And given the current roster, I am projecting him as starter at center.

I really want Jamal Burke, the JUCO center. He's good and would step in and play day one.

His social media says he will announce April 20.

Actually, he’s a grad transfer with two years to play. Immediately eligible. That’s a hell of a pull by Murphy.

I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but there’s no way he will get a scholarship during Murphy’s “now or never” contract year.
