Sign of the times, anti-zip. Just wait until the "one free transfer" goes into effect, as is expected. I just hope that the net effect on Kent State basketball is at least a net neutral. And I just remembered, Kent State was Antonio Gates' third 4-year college.

Rare, but not uncommon --- in the past Akron had a player leave and play at OU, ... OU player left to play at Miami ... a CMU player left and later played at Kent.

Verbal Commits has Nalls transferring. So that answers the question of if he'd be put on scholarship.

It sure does, anti-zip. He had a year here and probably saw that it wasn't a good fit.

So that's 8 players from this yea'rs roster not returning for one reason or another.

Why not take a chance on one of the KSU football QBs, Collin Schlee? He had a couple of D1 offers. Can't be any worse than this guy that just left. There are rumblings that the FB season may be at risk, so this may be one way to keep him shape. Coach Lewis probably wouldn't let him go though.

I agree that there's a real chance there won't be any fall sports. It's going to be a while before the governor is going to allow 5,000 people in one spot.

The Big Ten also just canceled all practices through May 4. Could that extend through the summer? Anyone who knows is smarter than the rest of the world.

They won't allow 5000 people in one spot? Isn't that the MACs policy with football attendance already?

Even if he does next October will be the beginning of the second wave (assuming the first wave is over).

yeah, I'm not counting on sports for quite a while. This virus is going to be a pain in the butt until enough people get it and recover to provide "herd immunity" or a successful vaccination is approved, whichever comes first.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
How sports will adjust to this is going to be really interesting. With 5g around the corner we already seemed closed to a concept of "virtual tickets" being a reality where you could buy a ticket to watch a game on a VR headset from a nice seat. I believe some baseball stadiums in Japan or Korea were already doing this. The fact is there's a ton of money in pro and college sports even outside of ticket/concession revenue. So college football for example, if they had to go to either closed to the public games or some form of limited tickets/social distancing crowds I think they'd do that before canceling the season. Unlike the NBA and MLB they'll have a long time to plan for how to handle it. It would be very interesting to see if crowdless games became a reality would we still get our big pay days for getting beat down by the big guys?

If this is all still going on by the time the college football season rolls around everyone will have watched everything on Netflix, Amazon prime, and hulu and new things wouldn't be coming out so the ratings they could get on live sports would probably be insane.

Also, wouldn't this just be our luck? Kent State football is finally exciting. We finally have a QB that could be an NFL prospect (as a QB). Something I've badly wanted to see. Then the season could be in jeopardy?

Please do not desecrate a basketball thread with the worst program (athletically or academically) in KSU history! Of course its Kent football luck to have a season get cancelled when allegedly they would have a good year. The positive is maybe Lewis would stay but I know he is gone as soon as possible.

I do believe, when this virus runs its coure - IN ALL SPORTS - there will be a recalibration downward across the board in salaries and the rat race to keep up with the Joneses.

Aside from the blackeyes, the crimson blight, the bloomers, craghorns and the like, everybody else will be putting a big knot on the end of the rope and hanging on.

Without the ability to offer retirement checks to the likes of Oats and Smart and so forth, the question becomes (as a successful coach): are you better off staying or going.

I would bet - in another year - guys like Senderoff will be coveted as a P5 coach who are proven winners in the current landscape of college basketball over an unproven P5 assistant. The ??? becomes, will it be worth it to go???

In the midst of chaos and mayhem, the smart man/AD makes a judicious move.

Just saying ...

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting 2020
Looks like the open offers for KSU as of today are as follows

Adong Makoui, PF, 6’9”, Daytona State College
Kam’Rom Cunningham, SG, 6’5”, Daytona State College
KeiShawn Brewton, PG, 6’2”, Chipola College
Jermaine Marshall, PF, 6’6”, Florida Southwestern State College
Mark Wise, PG, 6’4”, Deer Park HS in Cincinnati OH
Ty Foster, PG, 6’2”, Abraham Lincoln HS in Denver CO
Donyae Marshall, PG, 6’2”, Link Year Prep School in St Louis MO
Dillon Jones, 6’5”, SF, Sunrise Academy in Columbia SC
Justin Amadi, 6’7”, SF, Dorman HS in Simpsonville SC
Sanjolay Nile, 6’6”, PF, Whitney Young HS in Chicago IL
Aundre Polk, 6’8”, PF, SPIRE Institute in Detroit MI

I think there are 3 open spots left, with 7 leaving and 7 on scholarship returning and 3 in the recruiting class already signed LOI.

While it is noted all these players have been offered by KSU at some point, I would guess - at best - only 3/4 are on the stove so to speak, although it's anybody's guess which ones they are.

Probably a few unknown transfers being recruited as well. At this point, with so many HS/prep school kids available plus jucos and transfers, a level of patience (which KSU usually has) will go a long way before this staff starts truly pulling the trigger.

It's good, of course, that he is staying, but if he wanted to leave I doubt any "power" conference teams would offer based on his "iffy" knee situation.

It only takes on ... Illinois took ADR after his surgery.
