Exclamation CFN: Power 5 vs. G5 Upset Alerts
https://collegefootballnews.com/2020/03/...pics-no-12

33. Appalachian State @ Wisconsin
Wisconsin is a killer at home against Group of Five programs – it destroyed Central Michigan an Kent State last year by a combined 109-0. Appalachian State, though, beat North Carolina and South Carolina last year, and it’ll be fantastic again.

33. NC State @ Troy
Is NC State past all of the problems of last year’s 4-8 clunker? It’ll be coming off the ACC opener against Louisville and a battle with Mississippi State before going on the road to deal with Troy. It was a couple of years ago, but the Trojans shocked Nebraska 24-19.

25. Georgia Southern @ Ole Miss
The last thing any team wants to deal with late in the season in what’s supposed to be a paycheck game is an option offense. Making things extra worse for Ole Miss is the showdown against Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl just five days later.

4. Appalachian State @ Wake Forest
Appalachian State was able to get by North Carolina and South Carolina last season, and this year’s version should be every bit as good. Wake Forest managed to survive and advance through the first half of last season, but this should be a dead-even game in Winston-Salem.

100% chance TXST doesn't win a P5 game this year, cause for the first year since our move-up we don't play a P5 team, also for the first time since our move-up we don't play an FCS team. Full G5 slate for the Bobcats this year.

App State should hang with and probably beat Wake...but Wisconsin is a whole other beast....Appy is going to take a serious pounding...beating mediocre to bad teams in UNC and USC is not the same as playing the Badgers in Madtown. Not being disrespectful...take it from a stAte fan because for the most part recently our body bag games have been against some blueblood teams...and the outcome has been predictable...

That's because you guys are trash vs P5 opponents. APP nearly took down a highly ranked Penn State in Happy Valley, very recently.

In 2016, a Georgia State team that finished 3-9 lost by 6 to a Wisconsin team in “Madtown” that went to the BIG Championship game and finished ranked in the top 10.

Exactly! Wisconsin will be tough, and there's not doubt it COULD go badly for App but there is absolutely no reason to assume it will.

APP should win the Wake game, might even be favored going in, but the Badger’s game is tough to predict a point spread, Georgia Stare and the Penn St game gives us hope we will not get embarrassed but at the same time the Badgers will not overlook us, got a bad feeling they will take us very seriously. I don’t think we can win the game, but if we catch a few breaks we can make it a competitive for 2 1/2 quarters or so, before their depth and talent takes over in the 4th.

Hey...if you all think Appy can beat the Badgers in Madtown more power to you...if you want to say hey look at past results....cool...but if you are going to look at past results, then look at them all...and it's really not a pretty picture as far as SBC teams playing top BIG and SEC teams...sure anything can happen...good luck to Appy...my point is also this....don't bring up wins against UNC/USC as some sort of proof that Appy can play with upper level BIG teams...they were great wins to be sure...but together UNC/USC had 11 wins last year...UW had nearly that on their own...once again....good luck to Appy and make the SBC look good.

Arky St. OOC record doesn't reflect on everyone elses...

You've changed your tune from App will get blown out to App won't win at Wisconsin. That is probably accurate, and yes App could get blown out like they did vs. Miami. If you gave me 21 points I'd take it.

Last four years for App:

UTK 13-20 in OT
Miami 10-45
UGA 10-31
Wake 19-20
Penn St. 38-45 in OT
NC 34-31
SC 20-15

Only 1 G5 OOC loss in four years.

No....haven't changed my tune...App is going to get blown out....at least that's my feeling...don't get butt hurt...it's just an opinion like everyone else's here. And the odds and past conference performance back up my thoughts...but once again....good luck...I'd love for Appy to do well in the game...but the sky is blue in my world

I never said App would win. I used past results in my argument because I don’t assume App will necessarily “take a beating” as you suggested. Can they get beaten badly? Yes. Will they? It’s not an absolute they will - thus my point.

RE: CFN: Power 5 vs. G5 Upset Alerts
Why are you so sure APP is going to get blown out? APP, even with positions to be filled still should be a top 25ish team, loads of talent coming back, close to what we had last yr, and Wisconsin doesn’t run an offense that’s prone to running up the score, they are a ground and pound, eat up the clock, move the chains, short passes. If we keep the turnovers to a minimum, move the ball enough to eat up some clock, then there isn’t a reason this isn’t a competitive game late into the third.

If by some wildest stretch of the imagination stAte beats Michigan this year can we PLEASE quit hearing about how App beat them 20 years ago? Asking for a friend. :)

You will not hear APP fans talking about the Michigan win...news flash..we are sick of it!! We moved past that game yrs ago, would love for Ark St to win that game and make the conference look good.

Yeah, I’d say a fair share of the recent generations of App grads have not been talking about the Michigan win, great win but too long ago. Even though UNC and USC didn’t have a *stellar* year, they are still P5 with high level recruits and we played them in their backyards, you’ll hear about those wins for a while from us, especially since they are in the Carolinas with us.

As for Wisconsin this year, I fully expect this team to be competitive in the game, and I’m confident we can win. QB Zac Thomas RARELY loses, the kid just has a winner mentality. Plus, our coach said this and I know all App grads can attest, there is just SOMETHING about App State that changes you. We’ve had incredible success with recruits coming in and it doesn’t look like we are slowing down.

Wake should be a W, so I’m not sure about the “upset” in that
