The NIT game against Louisiana Lafayette in Mike Anderson's first year. After that tourney run and the near upset over Louisville, UAB basketball was officially "Back" and a near packed house watched us win a hard fought game against a quality team.

The Butler game in the Davis years where we "dunked all over them" and sent the Ronald Norred cheering section home disappointed.

The Houston game where a freshman Aaron Johnson hit a floater as time expired to win a high scoring back-and forth affair.

Some memorable road games:
PD3 taking over in the CUSA tourney against USM, hitting the last second 3 to send the game into overtime, then hitting a contested layup to win the game in extra time.
Taking over Troy's gym.
Taking over JSU's gym.
Taking over USM's gym.

Those Houston games around the end of anderson's tenure and the first few years of Davis were always awesome. I remember the one where the houston coach "fainted" and the final score was in the 90s

We had some great battles with UTEP around that same time frame too. At one point I think our games were going to OT more often than not.

The NIT quarterfinal game we were supposed to lose to UConn.

The Hartford Civic Center was booked for a Whalers hockey game, so instead of sending the game to Birmingham, they made us play in puny Storrs Field House, in order to give the Big East team the better chance to get to the NIT semis at MSG.

USM tourney: Davis quit, PD3 drove the Blazer Happy Bus.
Troy: "Don't call me Dancing Inferno 2!" The Troy guy in the red body suit with the really bad body was disturbing.
JSU: This is the game where Attalla was waving dollar bills at the JSU dance team and I had to restrain my normally reserved wife from smacking him on the head.
USM takeover: USM's Gary Flowers goes to the line for 2. My 12-year-old daughter screams into the silent gym as he shoots the first, clanks it. Stares right at her for the second and hits it blind, nothing but net.

What surprised me about that was how open the NIT people were about their reasons.

& Elbert Rogers came off the bench as a freshman and scored 9 points against UCONN to lead us to victory.

Elbert became a force the next 3 years.

Yes BYU was #3 and #1 and #2 had lost so they thought they would be #1 after they beat us.

Kentucky 2004
Virginia 1982
Kentucky 1981
Louisville 2003 ( we lost the game 83-78, one of the best games I have ever seen)
Iowa State 2017

Is the Virginia and Louisville game available somewhere on the internet?

I am interested in this too. Anybody have a link somewhere, or personal video you wouldn't mind sharing?

Great team based on the article. If only they went to the final four...

The Butler and VCU games. The win over Kentucky at freedom hall, The win at Arizona.

May not have played our best in each but they are memorable to me. Not as old as y’all.

The very satisfying part of that was that Doug Layton had to be there to see it.
