RE: UAB basketball coach Rob Ehsan deserved better
I thought UAB's defense was noticeably better. That's the improvement I would have liked to see in years 2 and 3.

After losing the majority of the offense over the last couple of years, the defense had to get better...

RE: UAB basketball coach Rob Ehsan deserved better
I've admitted I emailed Ingram in support of Ehsan getting the job and I deserve any razzing I get for that. I wanted him to succeed and thought he had a chance. He worked as hard as he could and UAB compensated him fairly for that. Just didn't work out.
I hope he lands on his feet and both parties move on to success.
Time to look ahead and get excited about our future.

You need an exciting product to get people off the couch and into Bartow.

RE: UAB basketball coach Rob Ehsan deserved better
I've been hoping this happens for 3 seasons now, but then as soon as I got the alert I felt bad. Ehsan seemed like a good guy that was doing his best, I have no doubt he'll use this as a learning experience and be a good coach down the road.
Does anyone have an actual list, or want to take a stab at a list? It seems like it's Andy Kennedy or bust. I'm not opposed to that, and have been hoping for that hire for years, but I also hope Ingram is thorough and picks who he feels is the best candidate.
This tweet from CoachRumors on twitter tells me that it's a done deal:
"If Andy Kennedy lands the job at UAB expect his staff to include Butch Pierre, Ryan Cross, and Delante Hill."

I don’t think anybody has an actual list. We have one obvious guy that we all hope would simply get interviewed to see how much he’s got left in the tank, but not entirely sure if he’s the right hire. He’s proven but didn’t have the sustained success we’d hope(in someone we are looking for) over his long prior tenure. He knows what we expect in our program, but is he truly motivated? Maybe I’m being a bit harsh.
Cleveland keeps getting mentioned but just like Ehsan, probably should have his 1st HC gig at a much lower tier program. I say pass on any assistants, too big of a risk at such an important time.
We’d be doing ourselves no good, to not look at some of those Mid major coaches that are tearing it up over the last 3-5 years.

Kennedy is only 52 so he should have plenty left in the tank. You're right that he wasn't consistent, but he also won 61% of his games (including his last year) at a program that had only won 48% prior to that.
I'm personally more in favor of a re-tread hire that will stick around for an extended period over a low-major coach that'll just use UAB for 3-4 seasons and bolt. I thought even Bryce Drew would have been a good option, but it looks like Grand Canyon is going to scoop him up.

NBR, but Samford just fired their coach. Let's see if he gets a "deserved better" article!

RE: UAB basketball coach Rob Ehsan deserved better
Mike Anderson was an assistant when we hired him and he worked out well for us. Hence, I wouldn’t have a problem giving T.J. Cleveland a shot. He runs the same high tempo game, a good recruiter and is originally a local guy. I suspect many of our current players may fit his system. I expect that Bartow Arena would again become the “Steal Mill”.
I also would not have an issue with AK getting the job. He was one of, if not the most, successful coaches at Mississippi. The SEC is admittedly a tougher conference than CUSA. He was a scorer as a player at UAB and I think that he will bring that philosophy to our program.
One name that hasn’t been mentioned is Murry Bartow. To me, his tenure at UAB was hampered by criticism that he was simply given the head coach job rather than earning it by a successful tenure somewhere else. He also had a less friendly BOT than there is now. The version of CUSA that he coached in was head a shoulders tougher than the current version. He has been to the NCAA four times, once with UAB and three times with ETSU. He has a lot of experience, a lot more than he had with his first tenure so I think that he would be more successful this time around.
Hopefully, the AD will find the right guy that would win us conference championships and take us back to the NCAA.

Is there any time frame for when the mods will stop deleting all bad talk about Kennedy?
I just wanted to know.

If they like him so much, maybe they can pimp him for the Samford job. I don’t think he’d be a terrible fit there. Ehsan wouldn’t even have to move.

Only real issue with TJ is, how has that brand of defense been officiated since blinking at someone became a foul? I don’t care to see the other team at the free throw line 30 times a game due to hand checks.

What you linked to was not appropriate for this forum. It was not deleted, only moved to the Bar and Grill. That being said, moderation issues are not to be discussed on the open forum. If you have an issue, send a message to any moderator.
This link would have been a better choice and covers all the negativity you want without the crass, sexual innuendo.

Not a good look that's for sure, but it was also 10+ years ago. It's kind of weird how the only time it's ever mentioned is UAB fans trying to downplay AK as the choice. But then half the forum wants Steve Forbes and has no problem with the fact that he was on a show-cause.
To bring another positive: Something I really like is that AK dominated Auburn. I think he finished 16-7, including 10 straight. Also, people love to talk about bringing exciting offense, AK's offenses were in the top 70 (top 20% of D1) of KenPom's offense in 12 of his 13 seasons coaching.

At least we can say that the Blazers finished the post-season with a win for the third time. (1989 and 1993 being the others)

Anyone have any idea on a timeline? Ingram mentioned in a radio interview on Friday morning that he was planning to go on a beach trip next week. But given everything that's happening in the world, that might change.

I imagine if I didn’t have trip cancellation insurance, I’d go through with it, too. Not saying that’s the case for everyone, but.....

Probably not very dramatic when you announce a new hire in front of less than 25 people due to the limitations set on the county by the head health guy who thinks he's god.
