The fact is there is one man in the White House and all **** rolls up to him. Like all presidents before him he will and should bear the brunt of the blame when it comes to how the government responds to anything. Obama was blamed for everything, and Trump should be too. I don't care who is in the WH or which party they are with. It is that person's responsibility to gather the best people and experts to handle any crisis. If he doesn't do that then it's on him. Period. To not hold your elected officials accountable is just foolish.

yep and Trump has NAILED it, so we need to be out in the streets chanting his name and praising him for saving us all from this nasty virus. LONG LIVE TRUMP! LONG LIVE TRUMP!

btw, I dont even like Trump, but gotta give credit where it is due.

Obama killed 13k people with his pandemic, Trump has saved 100s of millions.

(03-13-2020 08:24 AM)bluebacker Wrote:  There are roughly 1 billion cases worldwide every year and on the average about 500,000 people die from it.

The range of deaths each year from seasonal flu is 300,000 to 650,000.

Every year.

There is nothing called "The" Flu.

There are 4 types of influenza viruses and types have subcategories:

Human influenza viruses Types A & B cause seasonal epidemics of disease in almost every winter in the US. Only Type is known to cause pandemics.

Type C infections generally cause mild symptoms. Type D viruses generally infect cattle and is not known to infect humans.

Type A changes genetically more rapidly in recently years and can co-circulate every year. The origin host can be human or animal (Swine, Avian, Equine).

Corona viruses can be as simple as the common cold and are typically short term and mild. Rarer forms that arise on no particular schedule can be lethal like SARS, MERS and now CORVID-19. There is no current vaccine or antiviral drug to treat any Coronavirus type.

Differences in cause of death:
The flu doesn't kill people. The body essentially kills it self fighting the virus. The virus hijacks cells treating them like a host and the immune system attacks the foreign body by sending White Blood Cells, antibodies and anti inflammatory molecules to wag war and eliminate the threat. In most cases the body wins. The by-product is a runny nose, watery eyes, sinus, ear infections.
Any weakness with the immune system or any type of illness or frailty increases the chance the body will be a casualty of the war. Bacterial pneumonia, myocarditis, encephalitis, myositis can occur as well as more serious secondary diseases.

Unlike what was reported in another thread soap does not kill germs. It does remove them so it lessens the chance of contracting a virus. Most coronavirus types stay in the nose and throat causing mild symptoms. COVID-19 is very good at reaching the lungs which makes it a more efficient killer. Once in the lungs it directly attacks the respiratory system making it difficult to breath. It advances quicker than most most viruses especially if you over 60 or have other pre-existing conditions and illnesses. AS has been pointed out COVID-19 is not influenza but it is it's stronger, faster more lethal in-law.

That's why with COVID-19 keeping people away from large crowds where the virus is very efficient at reaching the lungs of others is so important. One sneeze capable of travel beyond the 3-6 ft infection range can infect 100 people in seconds.

You stop COVID-19 by isolating it from additional hosts.

Obama killed 13k people with his pandemic, Trump has saved 100s of millions.

For the record, 17k people died from H1N1 and Obama put measures in place before a single person died. And the market didn't react to it like it is now because he instilled confidence in people.

Do you have a link that shows Trump has saved 100s of millions? Sounds like fake news. But if you're crediting him with saving that many then you have to credit Obama for the same because if H1N1 killed that many it could have been way worse.

Trump hasn't nailed anything other than Stormy Daniels. I'm not going to blame the deaths on anyone (maybe the Chinese). I will blame him for the market and economic issues because it is his job to prevent the aftermath and it hasn't been done.

yeah man I am admittedly trolling you. Your whole blame Trump premise is just ridiculous and silly. But, if that helps you sleep at night, have at it.

My Trump comment was just trolling as well. Like I said, I'm not blaming him for deaths, that' idiotic. But the economy...that's supposed to be his forte. Well let's see it.

No one is really even testing to even know the actual numbers and it is just barely getting started.

Correct. A series of errors and oversights ended up with the US being one of the least prepared of developed countries. We even turned down the offer of known effective testing kits from the world organization after our efforts to create new one failed. Our President says it was the previous administration that messed up.

But if you compare the responses day by day to our current efforts with H1N1 we were testing by day 2 of the second certified case. There was good communication between the White House and the CDC and WHO and there was quick national organization efforts. We were lucky with H1N1 since it started in April at the end of the traditional influenza season.

France 2.1%
UK 1.7%
Spain 2.3%

The US has had 1,832 cases an increase of 116 in the past 24 hours, 31 recoveries an increase of 1 in the past 24 hours and 41 deaths an increase of 1 in the past 24 hours. The latest death was a man in Kansas.

I used the US mortality rate. So at the worldwide rate, the flu would kill almost 37 million people if it had the same mortality rate. People are stuck on the total deaths as the comparison to the flu and that's simply the wrong way to compare the two.

I think the mortality rate is higher than it should be and I think most medical professionals will say that.

What concerns people is the infection rate? Even if the mortality rate is the same as the flue it appears that this virus spreads at 2x the speed. So without some sort of containment we would have had waaaaaaay more cases of Coronavirus than we would have had of the flu causing waaaaaaaay more deaths (even at flu mortality rate levels.)

Agreed. And the mortality rate will come down as more cases are identified but it is what it is right now. But that's not going to happen until the government can provide adequate testing. But Trump likes the numbers where they are, very good numbers, the best numbers out there.

So you are attempting to make this about Trump? Look at the numbers compared to other countries. Seems we are kicking coronavirus butt so Trump must be doing a great job.

Heil Trump!

The very young, the very old, and the infirm always make up the bulk of the deaths.

Most people get it or a touch of it and then their immune systems more or less adjust to it - but the common cold and the flu are and will remain the same - you can't cure them you treat the symptoms and these bugs are always changing and mutating which is why we will always have them around.

After over 1000 Americans had died as a result of it, Obama took measures short of what Trump has done. Obama was lauded and praised for being out in front of it. The same people who praised Obama, are blasting Trump. What is that about?
