Probably the correct decision, and one I think we'll see mirrored nationwide

So baseball ended the season with a losing record.

Yeah, but we were undefeated in the CAA.

As was mentioned. This is going to put some teams and players in a rough spot. You have a crop of freshmen coming in that have scholarships promised. Though this year's guys don't lose an eligibility year, they probably will eventually lose their scholarship simply in the numbers game. There simply are not enough to go around.

Yep sorry again haha - I stopped returning to the “NCAA Tournament Canceled” thread once I got the gist i.e. that the tournament was cancelled. You know me, Mr. J, I live in the recruiting and transfer threads.

Universities/athletic departments have an interval to decide whether strategic and resource planning in place before corona virus will be as relevant when classes and competition resume. Things I wonder:

Will an expensive four or even three year degree and accompanying costs come to be viewed as a discretionary luxury item?
Will online classes become the norm/more prevalent?
Will popularity of college spectator sports remain at same levels as before?
Will esports grow in popularity and present a greater headwind for ticket sales?
What will be the impact on conference and OOC competitors?
Will they look for alternate competitive arrangements?
Will the College’s resources be sufficient for its existing strategy/long term plans in the aftermath of a recession?
If not, is there a willingness to confront an alternate financial reality?

Some colleges are looking to start the season earlier, during July and August, to get to play this year. No out of conference games, no postseason. just 8-9 conference games.

https://footballscoop.com/news/report-co...is-summer/

Now granted, I have absolutely no idea how this would all get done before June, but this is certainly an interesting topic.

Jon Rothstein tweeted:

“ Sources: With both on and off campus recruiting currently suspended in college basketball, several coaches are using both FaceTime and ZOOM to give virtual tours for potential prospects who can't physically get on campus.”

I remember looking at a house this way and coming away from the 40 minute tour feeling ill from all the motion haha.

All Athletic Activities have been suspended due to COVID-19
The NCAA Division I Council voted to allow schools to provide spring-sport student-athletes an additional season of competition and an extension of their period of eligibility.

RE: All Athletic Activities have been suspended due to COVID-19
Really interesting article by Corey Evans on how the virus could place more importance on regional recruiting.

‘“The big difference was the coronavirus. Once it hit, it kind of gave him a real meaning of what distance really is,” Omoruyi’s guardian Mohamed Oliver said. “Once all that stuff started to happen and everyone started to be quarantined, the first thing that was said was what would happen if this thing happened if he was out in Arizona. It all just started to make more sense to him with what he wanted.”’

Cliff Omoruyi just committed to Rutgers, 30 minutes from his house.

Evans also suggests recruiting budgets may also be slashed going forward due to the economic downturn, preventing coaches from seeing and wooing faraway players.

And then transfers looking for homes now are obviously impacted:

“ This is all forcing transfers to pick their next school sight unseen. I get Seth Towns to Ohio State, Rodney Howard to Georgia Tech and Brycen Goodine to Providence; each are returning home and had visited the school’s campus during their high school days. For all others, they’re going to be out of luck during a time that they need to make it work with it being their second and likely last go around for where they will complete their college careers.

That has also brought hesitancy on colleges' part, too. Do they really want someone that they haven’t developed the proper relationship with? There is only so much that can be learned over the phone compared to having the transfer around its program for a weekend’s worth of time. Mistakes now could be exasperated further during the season.”

Interview with student athletes having to make adjustments. Luke Loewe on staying active:

‘"The workouts Coach Ray has sent can be done in the house and in the backyard. I don't have a basketball hoop in my driveway and the weather here has been so crappy. But I'm not too worried because I'm not the only one with this problem. Everyone in the country is pretty much having this problem."’

But they are adding women's volleyball in 2020-21.

And they have a big, fancy, new stadium where their football team plays games against FIU, UTEP, Florida Atlantic and UAB with more than a few empty seats.

Strange things are afoot on Hampton Boulevard.

Hampton Blvd. isn't as strange as it used to be. Long gone are icons such as 4400 Club and Friar Tucks. Wonderful establishments and the areas a few blocks in the other direction were safe too.
