Cienfuego has been a revelation so far this year. Has had four consecutive strong outings....and show great poise getting out of jams, or falling behind in the count. He, Lazabal and Kane have clearly been our most consistent pitchers.

Agree. High 80's fb, throws the off speed stuff consistently for strikes. BA against is .129

The plate umpire today was atrocious. Bulman struck out on two pitches that were at least 6 inches high. But he was bad for both sides. The MoSt bench was warned about complaining about ball/strike calls.

The MoSt closer was lights out. Glad we didn't have to face him with the game on the line.

I have a hard time agreeing with this. The best thing that could have happened to Rice athletics would have been developing a truly intense, competitive rivalry with UH. We are the ones who failed to hold up our end of the bargain there.

Maybe we are just ashamed of our history), Rice did not win a single conference championship in any sport. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Unfortunately, that was the same 20 years when intercollegiate athletics evolved into a big business. We missed the boat--badly. Whether we can climb back into the boat or not is questionable, but clearly not easy.

No doubt Rice did it to Rice. What is really distressing is that every time a clear message was sent, be it Arkansas leaving, the SWC breaking up, the collapse of the big WAC, the first flight from CUSA, nothing was done other than acting like Kevin Bacon in Animal House and saying "remain calm, all is well". The last message-the most recent flight from CUSA is likely the final message.

Apologies to parliamentarians for continuing the hijack of this thread (and perhaps causing it), just the whole mess continues to be distressing...……..

I'll continue hijacking this thread by once again making the pedantic note that this is not haiku. By definition, haiku is about the natural world, such as the seasons or flora or fauna or landscapes, kind of like this:

Spring has now arrived
Bats hit balls into the field
Owl pitching needs help

or

Rice baseball tumbled
off the top of the mountain
Now beat the dead horse!

These have references to the season and nature and fauna, so it's haiku. If it's just three lines of five, seven, and five syllables with no references to the natural world then it's senryu.

You may now resume your discussion of the series against Missouri State. Thank you!

Don't apologize. It's the only thing to talk about. All of our teams are awful. Even women's basketball has taken a step back. There's nothing positive to discuss.

Rice doesn't value anything about athletics. They'd end the football program if they could, and place us in a small basketball league.

Rice's indifference towards athletics is real, and it's deep. It's a university with a $6 billion endowment that funds athletics with pocket change, and their probably proud of that fact. The BOT are a bunch of Rice pawns. They make me sick.

Agree. The only glimmer of hope I see is in the possible breakup of the Big12. We could still end up in an AAC consisting of...
WEST.....................................EAST
SMU.......................................Navy
Tulsa......................................Temple
Rice........................................Marshall
Louisiana Tech......................ECU
Tulane....................................South Florida
Southern Mississippi............UAB

...providing that UH, Memphis, Cincinnati, and UCF go to a revamped Big12.

That would be the upside. But we're not going to get there going 2-11, 3-9 in CUSA football, or landing in Pod 3 in CUSA men's basketball or having a losing record in baseball. And there needs to be some urgency about it. I think the witching hour is 2024 when the XII TV contract runs out. I think you see OU and Okie State to the SEC and Texas and Kansas to the B1G, and the rest of the XII scrambling to put something together, probably involving the four schools you list. So we have something under 4 years to get back onto some kind of reasonable track. Is it doable? Yes. Are we doing what we need to do to make it happen? Not visibly.

We have needed urgency and a plan for decades. I think we were pretty aimless and complacent even back in the Neely days, which we both remember. When the ship sank, we jumped in a lifeboat. Then the lifeboat sank, and we grabbed a cushion. Now the cushion is becoming waterlogged. That is urgency.

sad but the bold has been evident for many many years. I never forget a conversation I had with Mike Pede 15 or so years ago how they had cut his promotional budget since they were solely focused on spending and not net. I still think Texas will go to the PAC as I don't think that the B1G wants to deal with their ego, thus either K State or Iowa St. PAC will get UT, BYU, and 2 from Baylor, Tech, TCU, Boise, AFA, or Colorado St. BIG 12 3.0 will be like the rest-second status.
