Charleston Cougars
Record vs. D-I: 14-12
CAA: 9-6 (5th)
RPI: 148
NET: 137

The Cougars enter Trask on a 3-game losing streak, which started with an embarrassing 72-65 loss to Elon at home and finished with a difficult road trip to the northeast, where Charleston lost to Hofstra by 7 and Northeastern by 14. Thus, despite being in 1st place on their own just 10 days prior, they find themselves in 5th place and desperate to get back into the win column. Much like the Seahawks, the Cougars will have had a 6-day layoff between games.

Charleston will also want to avenge a home loss against the Seahawks back on January 25th, when the Seahawks stole a 72-70 upset. Shykeim Phillips amassed 32 minutes of action, scoring 17 points (7-12, 1-1 from 3), 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Senior guard Grant Riller, who is 3rd in the league in scoring (22.1 ppg) in CAA-only games, wasn't on point on that day, shooting just 2-6 from 3 en route to 16 points. Most recently, in Saturday's loss to Northeastern, Riller was held to just 9 points.

Similar to Northeastern, Charleston has dealt with some bad luck lately. Injuries haven't been a concern, and Coach Earl Grant was quoted as saying “I really can’t put my finger on what has happened to us in the last two or three games.” Considering the Cougars are 3rd in the league in scoring margin and are in the top 3 or 4 in most CAA categories, there's no real reason they SHOULD be losing like they have. Thus, much like the league has seen out of NU, we can expect a turnaround coming soon, probably starting with this Saturday's contest.

I may be wrong, but I don’t think SN08 was a mathematics major. I may be wrong, but I hope not.

Nice win by the Hawks tonight, but you are correct, CoC is an awful offensive team. Looks like the Hawks are locked into the #8 - #9 game in the opening round of the CAA tourney against either Drexel or Elon.

He was being sarcastic.

Sure wish our team would show a little improvement too.

I didn’t say they were a bad team, I said they are a bad offensive team, which they are - and yes, the CAA is a very weak conference at this point in time. Can you imagine CoC without Riller? They wouldn’t be much better than us in the CAA standings.
I’m just glad we got rid of CB when we did so that we can at least have a little hope as a fan base. It says a lot that our kids have continued to battle this season. Burke certainly deserves a lot of credit, even if he doesn’t end up being our next head coach.

Always love beating Charleston. Half our CAA wins are against them now.

Wonder if Mullet saw improvement tonight.

There are 32 conferences. The CAA is 16th in the NET, 15th in the RPI, and 17th in the Sagarin. That's average. It's weaker than we want, but it's not weak. CofC has averaged 58.5 points in their four game losing streak to lower their average from 71.7 to 69.8. The NCAA average is 71.2.

Riller has scored 30.9 percent of their points. The CAA has statistics going back to 2005-2006, which is is 15 seasons including this season, and his percentage is seventh behind these players:

Towson's Gary Neal in 2006-2007: 37.2 percent
Hofstra's Justin Wright-Foreman in 2018-2019: 32.5 percent
Northeastern's Jordan Roland this season: 32.349 percent
Drexel's Damion Lee in 2014-2015: 32.345 percent
Hofstra's Charles Jenkins in 2010-2011: 31.9 percent
VCU's Eric Maynor in 2008-2009: 31.1 percent

Since the northern teams joined in 2001-2002, Jenkins, Maynor, and Hofstra's Loren Stokes are the only players to make the First Team three times. Riller will be the fourth. He's likely to finish second or third in career points behind David Robinson and maybe Jenkins.

Yeah. Except Brett Blizzard (UNCW) made that First Team FOUR times. The only player in CAA history to ever do so.
