LOL now we can't shoot threes to save our lives and we don't even play particularly good defense most of the time...

Our defense is ranked in the top 50 in all of the NCAA which has 300+ schools, so the defense is there but the complete lack of offense is ridiculous.

That's just PPG though, and you're going to be on the higher end when you're #325/353 in tempo, and when the offense has the ball for 18.9 seconds per possession (#317/353). Really we're #179/353 in defensive efficiency according to KenPom.

Yes this is true but our pace of play on offense is purposefully done to help our defense so really you have to take the PPG and the KenPom and find a middle ground with the both of them

Kenpom is the middle ground. The efficiency number isn’t based merely on possessions, it’s based on how the possessions turn out and adjusted for tempo.

Defensive ratings like the one on KenPom are estimating how many points we give up per 100 possessions. This way, you can compare offense and defense among all the teams despite style of play, which is to say we're below average for both.

Which is definitely more accurate than looking at total stats, because we are definitely below average on both offense and defense.

If anything, defensive minded teams are usually rewarded in the advanced metrics because they have fewer possessions.

Well, that's why the offensive and defensive ratings normalize the numbers at 100 possessions adjusted for pace, so there shouldn't really be any bias in terms of style of play.
